Welchol for gallbladder

Common Questions and Answers about Welchol for gallbladder

welchol

401016 tn?1201451802 I would assume they're giving you welchol for diarrhea and the Ami for GI spasms. This is a combination that is given to many (or combinations like it) when someone is experiencing unexplained abdominal pain (perhaps due to spasms) and diarrhea. Ami is used fairly frequently in GI problems, so don't consider it a 'head med.' It is, but in this case it's probably being used to work on the receptors in your GI tract - not your head, although it will do that, too.
Avatar n tn I did not have any problems until then. I suffered with IBS for years until my Gastro doctor put me on Welchol and it is wonderful I take 3 pills a day and I can get anything I want and I don't have any IBS episodes anymore. I am not afraid to go out anywhere anymore. But I have another problem.
Avatar n tn I had my gallbladder out 2 months ago and I eat a low fat diet and also daily diarrhea. I read online that it is common after gallbladder removal and some people it gets better over time and others always have diarrhea. Does your husband feel better atleast after gallbladder removal?? I had mine removed but it did not take away the pain.
Avatar f tn I have an answer for you. I too had my GB out, and soon after had the same symptoms. I DIAGNOSED IT myself....not much initial help from the gastro MD. It is called "biliary diarrhea". It's fairly common, surprisingly. Apparantly has no reflection on the quality of the surgery (I had the short cut method). However, good news: I've beern able to control it, for which I do give gastro MD credit....The cholesterol drug Welchol. Without it I'd be housebound!
Avatar n tn I had my gallbladder removed over a year ago. I have the same problem. I have found that a old cure for this type of problem that a Aunt has used for years is simple flour and water. I mix 2 tsps of plain flour in a little warm water stir till no lumps and drink it down in a gulp. Has worked wonders for me no more problem.
Avatar n tn I wonder if anyone has successfully sued their surgeon for taking out their gallbladder when it causes this much of a problem 9 years later and your problems were likely originally due to poor diet and lifestlye and could have been corrected without surgery? I miss work, I spend $$$ on trying new things, docs think I'm just complaining but I put up with a lot. I itch, burn, arthritis acts up, food allergies, seasonal allergies, everything acts up when I get like this.
Avatar n tn Ask your doctor about Welchol; it's a cholesterol medicine that binds bile salts. I had mine taken out in February of last year and tried to "tough it out," but after a doctor put me on Welchol, I rarely ever get sick after eating.
Avatar n tn it is a very common side-effect of having no gallbladder, for now that your body has nowhere to store your bile, it just runs straight into the intestines..... I know that the right kind of fibre like metamucil can help, and also medications like the others have suggested.
Avatar n tn I developed IBS after my gallbladder removal and was like all of you. I am taking Welchol my gastro prescribed it to me. I take 3 pills in the morning and that's it. I can get any type of foods and never have a IBS episode. Before I could hardly eat anything because I would end up in the restroom. But this medicine is wonderful. I always remember to take it. I am not afraid to go anywhere anymore, wondering if I will be racing to a restroom.
1374371 tn?1279332622 t had any since. Sometimes I just have gallbladder pain/tenderness for a few days if I eat something I shouldn't have. I was supposed to get surgery but I walked out. The surgeon didn't even want to discuss any other options with me. I really don't want surgery unless it's absolutely necessary. I was wondering how others felt about my situation and could give me some advice. If I don't have it removed, could it possibly kill me?
1139187 tn?1355706647 I have about 600 welchol tablets that my insurance company accidently over-sold me. I cant take this medication any longer. It was prescribed to me because of gallbladder removal. Can I do anything with this medication since I will not be taking it? Its in 3 huge , sealed bottles.
Avatar f tn Why does your doctor prescribe Welchol for increased cholesterol? What about statins-Lipitor, Crestor? They are not advisable for people with ongoing hepatitis, but if you are SVR there should be no problem. They are much better tolerated than Wellchol.
Avatar f tn I also suffered horribly with diarrhea for about a year after, and eventually was put on Welchol to help. It also helped me to reduce the fried and fatty foods from my system.
1543146 tn?1293661166 So, because your gallbladder is not functioning anymore (its not there right?) than you have bile flowing...it is not being directed to the intesines...I know a girl who has the same problem...there are certain foods that make it worse than others. In your case...alcohol, asprin and pain killers are things you can not take comfortably. If you have to take them...than you will have to determine what is worse...the bile or the pain.
268356 tn?1236002604 I had dumping syndrome for 20 years after my Gallbladder surgery in 1991. Could not do anything or go anywhere where there was only 1 bathroom, or God forbid, no bathroom, ruined my life. 2 things can help in my experience. 1 - get Cholestyramine powder from your doctor. Works wonders, 1 packet first thing in the morning in 4 ounces of juice. no running, will change your life. or 2 - Go on a low carb, high fat or Keto diet. Seems that carbs, and possibly carbs and wheat may cause the running.
Avatar f tn Is the gallbladder a issue for most women after pregnancy?? I am relieved to now know what has been causing my pain but I am scared to what will have to happen next. My question is can I do something to save my gallbladder from having to be removed???
Avatar f tn I am curious if you tried cholestramine or welchol pills for detox? I use the welchol because I can't drink liquid meds.
Avatar f tn ve been on Welchol for lose to twenty years now, but now (after having thyroid gland removed due to follicular cancer at the end of last year), I'm having the exact same symptoms taking the Welchol tablets as you described (I thought it might have been dyspagia brought on by the Levothyroxine I'm forced to take now). Has anyone ever figured out what might be causing this?
Avatar f tn In the UK the doctor can order xrays and other imaging like ultrasound scans, barium meal xrays, and would refer you to a specialist for a colonoscopy and any other tests to check for problems in the digestive system. The doctor should also consider doing blood tests to check your kidney and liver function. A stool test can also be done to look for any bacteria (especially Helicobacter Pylori), parasites and any more serious problems.
Avatar n tn This will help with stomach issues. It does take quite a while for your body to realize your gallbladder is gone. Hope this is helpful.
Avatar m tn Will keep her on, cause her numbers are VERY bad and I will probably go back to Welchol and zetia, for what it is worth.
Avatar f tn m afraid to eat, because this will produce bile, which in turn leaves me sitting on the toilet for hours. I have lost 8 pound since the surgery. The mornings are the worst, upon rising, I will go 6 - 8 times within the first hour, but it's just liquidy bile, bright yellow. I'm at my witts end...work thinks I'm a suck because this surgery has an expected recovery rate of just a few days.
Avatar n tn I had my gall bladder remover over 10 years ago and just now I have been in intense pain for 1.5 months now. After an EGD I was diagnosed with bile reflux gastritis and prescribed sucralfate and actigall. Neither are helping as much as i would like. I am very puzzled because my Mom, Dad and Brother also have had their gall bladders removed as well and i am the only one dealing with this. I can't eat much that doesn't cause excruciating pain and i have lost 20 lbs.
Avatar f tn I've read through many of the forum topics on this site as I've tried to educate myself on what is going on with my body. I'm a 25 year old thin, active female. And by active I mean going to the gym 5 days/week along with chasing after my 3 year old. I can think back to times for the past 5 years where I have had bouts of extreme pain after eating certain foods. It started out as an occasional thing...maybe twice per year, so I didn't think much of it.
Avatar f tn I am still struggling to find out why this has happened as I still have my gallbladder. For now though the pain is mostly gone and I can begin to calmly pursue better health.
Avatar f tn I had my gallbladder out 17 years ago, had bad pain in my middle area and around the back. After the surgery and i came home, while i was eating, i had another attack like the ones before the surgery, i was so ticked off.
215461 tn?1331862765 before you get the thing out - ask your dr. for a little welchol or questran light. See if that reduces the acid in the system and aids in the digestion. avoid greasy foods. Chicken like chicken express or anything breaded or deep fried is your worst enemy. Sounds like you may have the chronic cholestecitis. I can tell you I would kill for my gallbladder back. People say you cant notice a difference, but there are certain foods that will have me pulling over asap when driving.
Avatar n tn 'I've battled high cholesterol for a number of years and can't find the right medicine...Lipitor caused severe muscle weakness, Zetia caused all kind of digestive problems and Pravachol zapped my energy...my count actually went up 30 points while taking WelChol! My doctor is telling me that I have no other choices of medicine to lower my count (total 285, HDL 106 VLDL 21, LDL 188, Triglycerids 106.) My sister is having the same problem so I guess this problem is a family thing.
