Welchol dose for diarrhea

Common Questions and Answers about Welchol dose for diarrhea

welchol

401016 tn?1201451802 I would assume they're giving you welchol for diarrhea and the Ami for GI spasms. This is a combination that is given to many (or combinations like it) when someone is experiencing unexplained abdominal pain (perhaps due to spasms) and diarrhea. Ami is used fairly frequently in GI problems, so don't consider it a 'head med.' It is, but in this case it's probably being used to work on the receptors in your GI tract - not your head, although it will do that, too.
Avatar f tn I have an answer for you. I too had my GB out, and soon after had the same symptoms. I DIAGNOSED IT myself....not much initial help from the gastro MD. It is called "biliary diarrhea". It's fairly common, surprisingly. Apparantly has no reflection on the quality of the surgery (I had the short cut method). However, good news: I've beern able to control it, for which I do give gastro MD credit....The cholesterol drug Welchol. Without it I'd be housebound!
Avatar n tn I new that after the surgery it would take some time to get back to normal (being able to eat and not have diarrhea). However, this is not my case-my diarrhea is if anything worse and more frequent. No certain foods cause it- one day I can eat something and have diarrhea, the next day eat the same thing and nothing. Sometimes it occurs immediately after I eat (before I've even finished my meal) and then other times it occurs the following morning.
Avatar n tn I have spent 25 years of my life living with daily diarrhea since they removed my gallbladder. I'm one of those people whos stomach needed the bile that was released after eatting. Is there a pill out there that releases what the gallbladder did to stop this?
Avatar n tn I did not have any problems until then. I suffered with IBS for years until my Gastro doctor put me on Welchol and it is wonderful I take 3 pills a day and I can get anything I want and I don't have any IBS episodes anymore. I am not afraid to go out anywhere anymore. But I have another problem.
Avatar f tn Why does your doctor prescribe Welchol for increased cholesterol? What about statins-Lipitor, Crestor? They are not advisable for people with ongoing hepatitis, but if you are SVR there should be no problem. They are much better tolerated than Wellchol.
Avatar n tn My husband had his gall bladder removed three months ago and he still has almost daily diarrhea. He is careful with his diet and does not comsume too much fat. Does any one have any ideas on why and diet .
Avatar n tn Track to see if the bouts of diarrhea coincide with the intake of fatty/dairy. But if the diarrhea is too continuous check to see if the doc will give her something like bentyl which will slow down the 'fast transit' through the GI tract. If that doesn't help, consider a bile-binding resin like that mentioned above, or perhaps Welchol (sp?) which can function in the same capacity.
Avatar n tn The doctors now have her on Welchol (4 dose daily), Megestrol (twice daily) Lomotil (4 dose daily) Reglan (4 dose daily), K-dor (1 dose daily), Zantac (3 dose daily), Flora Q2 (1 dose daily), Paxil (1 dose daily), and Vancomycin (4 dose daily). I have a clear understanding of the reasons for all of these drugs but the fact she went right back to feeling awful after getting home just doesn't seem to make sense to me. She continues to lose weight, she's still nauseated and still vomits.
Avatar f tn ve been on Welchol for lose to twenty years now, but now (after having thyroid gland removed due to follicular cancer at the end of last year), I'm having the exact same symptoms taking the Welchol tablets as you described (I thought it might have been dyspagia brought on by the Levothyroxine I'm forced to take now). Has anyone ever figured out what might be causing this?
Avatar f tn In the UK the doctor can order xrays and other imaging like ultrasound scans, barium meal xrays, and would refer you to a specialist for a colonoscopy and any other tests to check for problems in the digestive system. The doctor should also consider doing blood tests to check your kidney and liver function. A stool test can also be done to look for any bacteria (especially Helicobacter Pylori), parasites and any more serious problems.
268356 tn?1236002604 t have to take that many, just one tablet in the morning, before food (like you said 30-40 minutes) and I can live like a normal person. Taking 3 tablets is the dose for Cholesterol control, and can cause constipation. Yeah, I know, folks like US don't even know what that's like anymore! LOL.
Avatar n tn There is about a 5% incidence of watery diarrhea immediately following removal of the gallbladder that is thought to result from bile salt irritation in an empty GI tract. It usually responds well to resins that bind these bile salts (cholestyramine) so they can't irritate the intestine. Most commonly the intestine adapts such that these agents can be weaned off over several weeks.
Avatar f tn t bland and soft, the diarrhea will not stop. I am sore, exhausted and not sure I can wait anymore for the answers. I am losing weight although since I am overweight that isn't necessarily a bad thing - other than the method is which I am losing.
Avatar f tn I also suffered horribly with diarrhea for about a year after, and eventually was put on Welchol to help. It also helped me to reduce the fried and fatty foods from my system.
Avatar m tn Will keep her on, cause her numbers are VERY bad and I will probably go back to Welchol and zetia, for what it is worth.
Avatar f tn m afraid to eat, because this will produce bile, which in turn leaves me sitting on the toilet for hours. I have lost 8 pound since the surgery. The mornings are the worst, upon rising, I will go 6 - 8 times within the first hour, but it's just liquidy bile, bright yellow. I'm at my witts end...work thinks I'm a suck because this surgery has an expected recovery rate of just a few days.
Avatar n tn The dose of azithromycin recommended for chlamydia is 1.0 gram (1000 mg) and the recommended dose for gonorrhea is 2.0 grams. I suspect that lower doses would cure some urtherits but not all. My recommendation would be to be re-tested for gonorrhea, chlamydia and nongonococcal urethritis and then be treated if the tests are positive. As for your diarrhea.
Avatar n tn Thanks for the response. To answer your questions, not that I am aware of. She has had countless blood tests over the past few months, and nothing has shown up. We are looking for the 5th doctor to try and help. We have seen an internist, dermatologist, allergist, and an ent. Thanks for the post.
Avatar n tn I'm @ 8 mos post j-pouch takedown and am still having problems with nausea, diarrhea, cramps etc.. I ,m taking lomotil and metamucil and still go 16x's /day. I had a recent bout with pouchitis and took Cipro and Flagyl (and yogurt) . The Cipro made me feel normal again and reduced frequency to 5-7 x's a day- I felt good! When I came off the Cipro the high frequency diarrhea problem returned. I go every 6 hrs at about 4 trips per.

Avatar n tn 'I've battled high cholesterol for a number of years and can't find the right medicine...Lipitor caused severe muscle weakness, Zetia caused all kind of digestive problems and Pravachol zapped my energy...my count actually went up 30 points while taking WelChol! My doctor is telling me that I have no other choices of medicine to lower my count (total 285, HDL 106 VLDL 21, LDL 188, Triglycerids 106.) My sister is having the same problem so I guess this problem is a family thing.
Avatar f tn The doctors said my gall bladder was so diseased that it had to be removed immediately. Since the removal (5 years ago) I have had chronic diarrhea everyday, all day. I would say that I have at least 3 bowel movements a day and most days it is around 5. I'm wondering if there is anything I can do about this. I'm 23 now and I feel like I always need to be near a bathroom. This is no way to live. Is there any over-the-counter mediciations or supplements that I can take?
Avatar n tn I take (2) 500mg of metformin at breakfast and supper. I also take powder welchol at supper. I would like to take my 1000mg of Januvia at bedtime to help lower my morning blood sugar readings that usually run in the 150's to 160, Any cons to taking the Januvia without food at bedtime?
Avatar n tn Is there an over the counter medication you can give a dog for diarrhea and what is the dosage?
Avatar n tn COLESTID - if you take 6-8 tabs daily you will see a huge difference in stopping your diarrhea, it changed my life ! It has no side effects and is a miracle drug for relieving diarrhea, you will be able to leave the house, have one bowel movement a day and it will be solid. I cannot function without it. Hope you are able to find a doctor to prescribe this for you , it will literally change your life in this area anyways. Take care and hang in there !
