Avatar f tn Laxatives abuse is a dangerous habit, and one that really isn't going to cause any actual weight loss. Trust me, I can tell you this from experience as someone who struggled with eating disorders for many years and probably tried it all.
Avatar f tn I recently started taking (mineral oil) laxatives in an attempt to lose weight. Which was probably not such a good idea. After a few days of taking more than then the reccomended amount , when i went to the bathroom an orange oily liquid came out (along with urine and stuff) So, what does this mean? Is it bad? Or no big deal? Thanks.

Avatar n tn I have been overusing laxatives for years - not for weight loss - just to be able to go to the bathroom everyday - I also have terrible hair loss - I have been tested for EVERYTHING! Could the over use of laxatives be draining my body of some nutrient that could be making my hair fall out? I eat well and take vitamins and other supplements but my hair is still falling out. Thanks so much for your help!
Avatar f tn There are many individuals who misuse and abuse laxatives. Laxatives are the least effective weight loss method. Calorie absorption occurs prior to laxatives impacting the colon. You may save yourself 12% of the calories you ate. So if you ate 1,000 calories, the laxative use might save you 120 calories. In addition, laxative abuse can dehydrate your body and possibly cause electrolyte imbalances. There is nothing positive about laxative misuse or abuse.
Avatar n tn Since then I have been hiding away from everyone and over the last couple of months have been taking laxatives to loose weight. It seems that every time that I have something to eat I need to take a laxative to take the guilt feeling away. Can you please tell me whether there are short/long term problems that could arise from taking them.
Avatar f tn You are doing what so many people have done and most have had the same sad result – no weight loss. Sometimes, they have even gained more weight. Please know that exercise is not the main contributor to weight loss. In fact, exercise is more likely to make you hungry (hence the phrase ‘to work up an appetite’) so that you may end up eating more and thus gaining more weight. The way you describe your eating behavior makes me wonder if you have an eating disorder, such as bulimia.
Avatar f tn This should go without saying, but animal products, whether meat or dairy, in general, are packed with fat, hormones, chemicals, cholesterol, salt, and other things that contradict weight loss and a healthy detox. One of the biggest benefits of a detox is reduction of bloating. Animals products directly cause bloating since they have salt, fats, and lactose that can fill your stomach with gas. The types of products that are NOT vegan include those with whey protein, eggs, honey, milk, or meat.
Avatar n tn but another unpleasant side effect of being on my period is diarrhea for 2 or 3 days. i would never think of using laxatives for weight loss, because diarrhea is no picnic...but can i find some comfort in knowing that i'm not blowing my weight loss efforts when i'm appeasing those cravings since everything is leaving my body so quickly?
Avatar f tn I'm not eating any differently than normal, I don't work out, Does anyone know what could be causing my weight loss? I know that losing this weight unintentionaly and this rapid is "unhealthy".
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with chronic constipation over a year and 1/2 ago, lactose intolerant, malfunctioning gall bladder and not enough inertia in my colon to move matter through it properly. I was taking 13-15 laxatives a day with little to no relief, and definitely no weight loss. The last 2 months, my doctor put me on phentermine. I went in today for my rx renewal and I have not lost 1 pound. She feels the constipation is why, but I do not.
Avatar m tn How is weight loss effective? Do you think the use of weight loss products is effective? I think it can only support the weight loss, also important depending on your diet.

Avatar n tn About a month ago, I noticed my abdomen getting significantly larger- belly is distended to size I was at 4 to 6 months pregnant, worse at night. Weight unchanged. I was worried about my weight and my growing belly- Dr. ordered emergency ultrasound. Morning of the ultrasound, I began vomiting and also had diarrhea- relieved the distention. Had a fever that night.
Avatar f tn The right side of my abdomen is now swollen, it is apparent that is is swollen due to the fact that the other side is sunken in severely after all the weight loss. I am beginning to worry and each day I feel weaker. If anyone has any idea what might be wrong, I would very much appreciate the input.
Avatar f tn I typically alternate between bisacodyl and sennosides (active ingredients). I don't do this for weight loss, I just do this to go to the bathroom! If I could go by myself, I would gladly give these up! So I guess my questions are: 1) Is it safe to take 3 laxatives everyday? 2) Have you any other alternatives I can try?
Avatar n tn Although fiber rich diets are extremely beneficial, taking Metamucil (unless you are doing it for regularity) is similar to using laxatives to lose weight. Not really very healthy. Also, although somewhat unrelated, I find high fiber diets combined with high protein diets are very successful especially if you are doing any kind of resistance training.
Avatar n tn I have been taking metamucil (psyllium powder) everyday since March at one dose a day and have gone from 103pds to 89. The weight loss happened in about the 1st month. I just found out also that i have osteopenia (weak bones) the step right before ostoepourouses (brittle bones). I also have thining hair. All related to anorexia which i am eating ok now though but i take it day by day.
Avatar n tn Does anyone have information on at home enemas? I heard that they help weight loss and are alot less expensive than colonics.
964096 tn?1299510936 I would do your resistance training before your cardio, this can be more effective (especially for women) if your goal is weight loss. You need to work muscles in order from largest to smallest. Start with core (abs/lower back) exercises, followed by legs, followed by chest/back, shoulders/biceps/triceps. I would have you do a total body workout 2-3 times per week to start with making sure to skip at least one day in between total body workouts.
Avatar m tn That and the dramatic weight loss. He lives in a rural area and the care available there is less than stellar, unfortunately. From looking online, a B12 deficiency is my main concern but I'm wondering what other vitamins need time in the colon for absorption (or at the end of the small intestine going into the large intestine)? Would a normal vitamin even be absorbed? Should he see a nutritionist possibly?
361026 tn?1197563128 I am scared the weight gain will cause me to have to start my diabetes meds again which I had been able to discontinue after the weight loss. I am so worried about this weight gain and the results of my scan. nerves are still shaky. There has got to be an answer.
93210 tn?1287457826 But I DO NOT appreciate being lectured to by a total stanger who has no clue about my medical history or what I have or have not tried in an effort to lose weight! Who are you anyway? Are you a physician who specializes in weight loss? Because a person like that is the only person I will take a lecture from and only when he or she has full knowledge of my medical history. I suggest you tone down your comments that you write in the future to other total strangers.
Avatar f tn There are totally different detox diet programs and a number of these include taking detox supplements for weight loss. Doing exercises to sweat out is also counseled since toxins are also released by method of perspiration. For you to lose weight and keep it off, you wish to know several common ingredients among detox pills and metabolism boosters.
Avatar n tn Water gain? yes. Whether we begin to loss weight or gain weight, the first few weeks or week, we'll see more of a loss or gain due to water. I'm guessing for your height, a healthy weight would be about 140-160lbs depending on your bone and body structure. I would not recommend aiming for this right away. an 80 lbs gain would be very traumatic for you at this point. Now, I'm no medical professional and giving you advice based on my personal experience. Baby steps is the key here.
Avatar n tn I am now at my highest weight ever in my life time 200lbs. I paid a forturne to joined LA Weight Loss, I had had past success {30lb lost} with LA Weight Loss prior to the hysterectomy. I followed it to the letter for 12 weeks (which included a liquid fast, that I did twice) and lost NOTHING AT ALL. I was aggrevated, frustrated, humilated and I decided to give up on weight lost.
Avatar f tn The best way to lose weight and keep it off is to create a low-calorie eating plan that you can stick to for a long time. Rapid Weight Loss Diets 1. Do a juice cleanse. 2. Consider the Master Cleanse - The master cleanse is a liquid-only diet that consists of a “lemonade” (lemon, cayenne pepper powder, maple syrup, and water), a salt-water drink, and herbal laxatives. 3. Try the water diet. 4. Try the fasting diet. 5.
