Avatar f tn Most important is to control and manage your diabetes. Then limit your carbohydrate food intake for weight loss. Use Google to search and understand the difference between 'simple carbs and complex carbs'. Go to the Atkins web site for low carb information and recipes. Click on programs to get started. http://atkins.com/Homepage.aspx Pay careful attention to your breath, your body odor, or urine if any starts to have a fruity sweet smell.
Avatar f tn I traded one set of g/i symptoms for another (worse). My aim in going g/f was not weight loss, and I lost no weight while g/f. I have always found that some element of calorie counting is imperative for me...it's always worked. Rather than turning more to science, which apparently can be bought and sold, I think we have to get back to basics. Eat real food...
Avatar n tn Low thyroid can also contribute to very hard weight loss. For thyroid you should have the following tests as a starting point. FT3 and FT4. These results should be at least middle of the range (or a bit higher), TSH. This should be ideally in the range of 1 -2. Top of given range is also not ok. If your Dr refuses to do all these tests, at least start with TSH and FT4. With the abdominal fat, please also see if your dr is prepared to test you for adrenal function.
Avatar n tn They also occur during weight loss. They also are seen in people eating a low carb diet where fat rather than carbohydrates are being used for energy. They are not dangerous in the presence of normal blood sugar levels. Ketoacidosis is a very dangerous condition that can happen in persons with diabetes. This is the presence of high levels of keytones simultaneous with high blood sugar levels.
Avatar f tn There is nothing magical about Greek yoghurt -- it's just yoghurt with much of the liquid removed, making it higher in protein and thicker. But Greeks don't sit around eating this yoghurt, which is prevalent in the Mediterranean region, they mostly use it as a dipping condiment or for cooking. Dairy can also be problematic, as it is rich in calcium but very low in magnesium, so if you overdo it you will leach the magnesium out of your system.
1436324 tn?1283698760 The ways to control type 2 diabetes is with change of diet (reduction of carbs), weight loss if necessary, exercise, and, if necessary, medication. Medication is not the enemy, and if it is needed can help control your blood sugar. However, I agree with the previous poster that it shouldn't be the first choice; diet, exercise and weight loss should. I am going to send you a PM with a website with a lot more diabetics of both types. There you will get the support and knowledge you need.

Avatar m tn The main things I have noticed is weight gain, hard to lose weight, constipation or irregularity, memory loss, fatigue or weakness, Irritability, Depression, hair loss (might just be male pattern baldness). And a few other symptoms from what I read on-line but these are the main ones I noticed. Out of these the main ones are fatigue and weight problems. Me: Male 33 YO 260 lbs Some history of the problems I noticed.
Avatar f tn my question is then, could a doctor put a person into a similar state…maybe under anesthesia with an IV to replicate the weight loss or are there ethical reasons for a medical practitioner not to t do it? I was stunned not only with the weight I lost but how much better I felt and slept after fighting with cpap machines for years.
Avatar f tn t know if the weight loss will start to pick up perhaps...or if this is just how it goes the 2nd time around doing Atkins??? I've read that the weight doesn't come off as easy the 2nd time around...so perhaps that's what is going on. I would like any advice or tips or ideas or suggestions from anyone else out there who's trying to do Atkins or has been successful on Atkins, etc. I would be so grateful for any ideas or tips. I just want to see the scale move...
Avatar f tn Really that is the only way to lose and maintain weight regardless of all the diets etc. Taking a particular med to avoid weight gain and doing nothing should result in weight gain. Some do stimulate appetitie and some do the opposite but it is us that decides what and how much to eat.
Avatar f tn I'm not familiar with the diet with which you refer, so I did a quick search... The first thing I find is that it restricts calories to about 600/day, which puts up a red flag immediately for me. Of course, you can probably lose weight on any diet that only allows 600 calories/day, but can you stick with it? And is it healthy? My little bit of research shows that ketogenic diets are a bit controversial as to how healthy they are.
Avatar n tn This may be ketosis or in your case post exercise ketosis. You smell like acetone in a ketosis state . This is as close as i can find to nail polish; acetone is an ingredient in nail polish remover. The reason for ketosis is due to not enough glucose and so the body has to break down stored fat and convert it into energy instead. Metabolizing fat raises blood ketone levels therefore leading to ketosis.
Avatar f tn Hi Sammyg, Don't be discouraged with no weight loss in two weeks! Some people may lose 5-10 lbs immediately starting a new diet, but that is usually water weight and not true loss. I gained 25-30 lbs without diet change and while exercising a lot in 2015 and 2016. I lost 25 lbs in 2017 after realizing how much weight I had gained (and while having other hypo symptoms) by upping my exercise regime and counting every single calorie I ate for about a year.
Avatar f tn and I am thinking about gastro bypass since all of the medic clinic weight loss programs promote High protein diets going into ketosis for the first week or two to jump start your metabolism. I am not able to participate in that. I was wondering if there was a place like the Biggest Looser that would cater to type 1 diabetics.
Avatar m tn Ketotic hypoglycemia more commonly refers to a common but mysterious "disease" of recurrent hypoglycemic symptoms with ketosis in young children. The cause and the homogeneity of the condition remain uncertain,[1] but a characteristic presentation, precipitating factors, diagnostic test results, treatment, and natural history can be described. It remains one of the more common causes of hypoglycemia in the age range.
Avatar n tn I have no other symptons (dry mouth, thirst, fatigue, hunger, loss of weight, excessive urination). I have continued to check my blood glucose but it is always under 100 no matter what time of day I check. The last time I stuck my finger, I got a lot of blood so like most people, I pop my finger in my mouth to stop the bleeding. The blood was sweet. So I am really concerned.
Avatar f tn I am 18 weeks pregnant and I am having trouble just maintaining my weight. I have lost 25lbs so far during my pregnancy. I have potassium issues and struggled with Hyperemesis during the 1st trimester. My doctor wants me to use the food diary in the my fitness pal app. I have been for over a week now and I can't even meet my daily caloric intake for myself--not to mention the extra 300 calories I should be taking in for baby.
