Weight loss ketosis

Common Questions and Answers about Weight loss ketosis

Avatar n tn I agree with misscloey. If you are in ketosis then that's good for you IF of course you want to lose weight. The state is totally healthy and you want to be in it to burn stored fat and regain energy. Don't forget to take a multivitamin. I'm on the atkins diet, too. It took me a week for me to get used to it and lose my appetite and not crave sweets. So yes, if you're in ketosis then this means you're losing weight.
Avatar n tn Low thyroid can also contribute to very hard weight loss. For thyroid you should have the following tests as a starting point. FT3 and FT4. These results should be at least middle of the range (or a bit higher), TSH. This should be ideally in the range of 1 -2. Top of given range is also not ok. If your Dr refuses to do all these tests, at least start with TSH and FT4. With the abdominal fat, please also see if your dr is prepared to test you for adrenal function.
Avatar n tn KETOSIS IS A JOKE...AND A SCAM and is proven to not be needed..at all for weight loss..its nonsense..
Avatar f tn If you really want to change your diet permanently for weight balance I'd do some reading and see a nutritionist -- eating a lot of dairy has proven to be helpful for weight loss, but then you're stuck with eating too much dairy, which can later lead to inflammation problems and digestion problems, so the key is to adopt a new diet that is healthier and better balanced than your old one and increase your exercise.
Avatar n tn I thought these 2 meds were known to be weight neutral or cause weight loss. My doctor knows my concern about the weight issue as this is something I have never fought to maintain while everything else in life seems to be a fight. If I stopped taking all meds, would I lose the weight and go back to my normal size. I do lack motivation that's for sure! I think or say I will start a program and don't.
Avatar n tn It should take about 2 months to get to that dosage but I'm getting kinda excited hearing about the benefit of weight loss especially since it was weight loss pills (metabolife and xenedrine) that caused me to find out that I was epileptic in the first place! The doctor told me that i might get tingling in my fingers and i might feel a little dopy but happy dopy he described it as, so I figure i can deal with that! If I start losing weight at a rapid pace i'll definitely post again!
921323 tn?1268679412 I’ve been getting a lot of posts recently about using Human Growth Hormone (HGH) for weight loss, and decided it was about time I explained my position. Basically, I don’t recommend it. Why not? For those of you less familiar, let’s break it down. 1) What is HGH? Human Growth Hormone is a hormone normally produced by the brain’s pituitary gland. Its purpose is to stimulate growth and cell reproduction. For this reason, levels are higher in adolescence, and peak during your twenties.
Avatar f tn and I am thinking about gastro bypass since all of the medic clinic weight loss programs promote High protein diets going into ketosis for the first week or two to jump start your metabolism. I am not able to participate in that. I was wondering if there was a place like the Biggest Looser that would cater to type 1 diabetics.
Avatar m tn A short while back--before I went vegan, and after gaining 20 lbs in 2 months, going from 226lbs to 246lbs--I considered medical weight loss. There I was told that I could, at most, expect to drop to 200. (My body fat percentage was about 26.6% then.) My goal was 180, but no matter: all I want is to be healthier. Besides, I already have this not-so-nifty skin hanging around which may need to be snipped.
Avatar f tn (Getting your thyroid hormone in the right range will hopefully help you feel better too and make the weight loss easier, but weight gained from hypothyroidism doesn't automatically come off when your metabolism is fixed which doesn't seem fair to me). Keeping track/changing my diet by far had the biggest influence on my weight loss (I was running 100 miles a month and still gaining weight, and I wasn't eating that unhealthy, but just more calories than I was burning I guess).
Avatar f tn I don't know if the weight loss will start to pick up perhaps...or if this is just how it goes the 2nd time around doing Atkins??? I've read that the weight doesn't come off as easy the 2nd time around...so perhaps that's what is going on. I would like any advice or tips or ideas or suggestions from anyone else out there who's trying to do Atkins or has been successful on Atkins, etc. I would be so grateful for any ideas or tips. I just want to see the scale move...
Avatar n tn I've done alot of thinking about this drug and I believe that it causes weight loss because it works a bit like the Atkins Diet by putting your body into ketosis which causes the body to burn fat for energy instead of glucose. Unfortunately it doesn't discriminate what fat it burns and I think it burns good and bad fats and oils in the body such as the oils in your hair and skin causing the hair issues. I imagine your body must replenish all of these good oils before the hair recovers.
783914 tn?1236217958 (The doctor would be able to tell you better about that) There has been some questions about using hcg for this purpose because the FDA says that it is not effective and everyone selling hcg for weight loss has to put up a disclaimer that it has not been shown to be effective. I personally don't care that the FDA says it isn't effective, because they don't say homeopathy works either, and I have seen for myself that it does.
233915 tn?1218816727 If you are eating oatmeal cookies and having red wine this could be the main reason why you aren't losing weight. Sounds like you are eating healthy, but not eating for weight-loss. Wine and oatmeal cookies should be part of the maintaining phase. Once you are down to your ideal weight then you can have a glass or two at night with a couple of cookies, while continuing to eat healthy. Alcohol is a major reason why so many people are overweight.

Avatar n tn Didn't mean to waffle on so much, but any help or advice would be much appreciated, since i have started this diet only a couple of days ago it would also be good to know what my expected weight loss would be per week. Thanks a lot!
Avatar n tn You need to set up a meal plan with your healthcare provider that's achievable for you and includes weight loss as a goal. Here's some advice on how to create a diet that works for you from the Sugar Sense app and MedHelp.org http://www.medhelp.org/nutrition/articles/Whats-Your-Best-Diet/1642 You can also find this in the app in the Health Guide. To get there, tap the bar menu in the upper left hand corner and then scroll down to the Health Guide. This article is in the Eat Right section.
Avatar n tn Those microwave lean cuisines are usually very very high in sodium and carbs. Too much sodium is not good for weight loss since it doesn't let your body eliminate water weight, so you're basically retaining lots of water weight. Look, what has helped me lose weight is a low-carb diet. You may eat fish, fowl, shelfish, meat, eggs on great variety until you are completely satisfied. Read about ketosis.
Avatar n tn It has been over the past month to month and a half that she has noticed some weight loss. I believe she is really watching her fat intake and carb intake, however, she is not doing anything like Atkins. When someone with diabetes is low, we all know they need carbs and in general need a certain amt. to balance out the blood sugars when insulin is taken. We know this disease called diabetes is a balancing act. Every time I have seen my sis take a shot, it has been in her arm.
Avatar n tn Also, if the bodygem said you needed roughly 1200 cals/d for weight loss, I really wouldn't go below that level because it can actually make it more difficult for you to lose weight. You also might want to consider seeing a Registered Dietitian but if you do, I'd make sure beforehand that they also have some type of exercise background (ACSM/ACE certification, Kinesiology Degree, etc.) I know it can be frustrating but don't lose hope.
Avatar n tn I went today for my first week weight check and my second shot.....my weight loss for my first week is 9.5 pounds!!!! Anyone else using Phentermine and B12? I would love to hear how other people have done on these meds. Good Luck to everyone trying...I want to hear your story!
Avatar f tn I don't know if you up your calories with the food what would happen with your weight loss, though. Maybe you could try upping your protein to 4 oz and adding another veggie (from the approved list only) to your meals? Also, you can get ketosis test strips from your pharmacy and check to see if you are in ketosis. (Fat burning state). If you are not in ketosis at all that can explain why you are struggling so much with the diet.
Avatar f tn Most important is to control and manage your diabetes. Then limit your carbohydrate food intake for weight loss. Use Google to search and understand the difference between 'simple carbs and complex carbs'. Go to the Atkins web site for low carb information and recipes. Click on programs to get started. http://atkins.com/Homepage.aspx Pay careful attention to your breath, your body odor, or urine if any starts to have a fruity sweet smell.
Avatar f tn com/2008/08/25/the-hcg-diet-yet-another-fad-diet/ Aetna (*******), one of many insurance carriers, has a Clinical Policy Bulletin regarding Weight Reduction Medications and Programs posted that excludes Human chorionic gonadotropin (HCG) or vitamin injections for weight loss because it is considered experimental and investigational for weight loss. There is no magic pill or diet or plan to lose weight quickly and safely. To be fit and healthy you have to eat healthy and exercise.
Avatar n tn They happen overnight in most people (due to the extended fast) in small amounts. They also occur during weight loss. They also are seen in people eating a low carb diet where fat rather than carbohydrates are being used for energy. They are not dangerous in the presence of normal blood sugar levels. Ketoacidosis is a very dangerous condition that can happen in persons with diabetes. This is the presence of high levels of keytones simultaneous with high blood sugar levels.
Avatar f tn I support your eagerness to lose weight but for sustainable weight loss 2-3lbs a week is the most you want to strive for
