Avatar n tn What is her physicians response to her weight loss? Morphine itself, does not cause weight loss. It is more likely that the other medicines she may be taking in conjunction with the morphine may be the culprit. I would discuss your concerns with her prescribing physician. With the new HIPPA laws her physician will not be able to talk with you without her permission. However you may offer him/her information on your mother's condition.
Avatar n tn I eat lots of chicken, and will probably start growing feathers soon. Bottom line of what I have learned in this world of weight loss is eat right, small portions, and exercise, and it will come off! Don't get me wrong, I still have a day or so of eating some pasta, etc., but the low carb thing is working for me.
Avatar n tn I would say that it is a 50/50 chance whether you would lose weight in the long run as the product wasn't designed as a weight loss product. (but I'm not a doctor so your dr. might be able to tell you what to expect).
Avatar m tn Would the concern with foul smelling breath in this case be that food is rotting in the lungs? He has a permanent feeding tube. I think you are right that the intestine and stomach were swollen and not functioning properly. The food was simply not being absorbed and then ended up going back up the esophagus and coughed out. He did not have a normal bowel movement for 10 days, so that cannot have helped flow through the intestines either. What is the recommended course in such cases?
Avatar n tn They wouldn't do a drip to wean her on pain meds, but they could work with her on weight loss (which if its a significant amt, I'm sure is contributing to her pain.) Physical therapy would not only assist in weight, but strength, mobility and they also can do quite abit in the aspect of pain control.
427265 tn?1444080036 I’m in the first stage of the hCG SlimXpress Tacoma Weight Loss program . Weighing in at 232 pounds was sobering. I can’t believe I let myself get to this point. This first stage of the HCG Diet means I can eat without restriction. What an unbelievable idea. I started a rapid weight loss program but today I eat pancakes for breakfast, cheeseburger with fries for lunch and dinner with ice cream twice for snack and dessert. I think I’m in heaven.
921323 tn?1268679412 I’ve been getting a lot of posts recently about using Human Growth Hormone (HGH) for weight loss, and decided it was about time I explained my position. Basically, I don’t recommend it. Why not? For those of you less familiar, let’s break it down. 1) What is HGH? Human Growth Hormone is a hormone normally produced by the brain’s pituitary gland. Its purpose is to stimulate growth and cell reproduction. For this reason, levels are higher in adolescence, and peak during your twenties.
Avatar n tn Hello Bunky, First let me welcome you to our community. I am very glad that you have found us. I do know where you are coming from and how alone you feel in your concerns. My Mother is 76 (lives with me part time) with some of the same problems that you describe with your Mom. My Father is 80 (Mom divorced him when I was 12) and live with me full time. I have years of professional experience in geriatrics but nothing prepared me for the time that my parents reached that stage of their lives.
Avatar n tn Last February (2006) I started taking phentermine for weight loss. I went from 175lbs to 150 lbs in a few short months. Unfortunately, I have always had some struggles with depression but had never been on medication for it before. Summer of 2006, I was having some major job stressors, family stressors, etc. and was still trying to lose weight and taking pehntermine off & on.
Avatar f tn The vet gave him this cream to rub inside his ears but it agitates him. Sometimes, he will walk in circles for hours . . . Lastly, he wakes up crying/meowing in the night. He has been deaf for a year or so. I comfort him, but a friend suggested that he may be having cardiac issues? I was hoping that he is just waking and can't hear himself meowing. Is this a sign that his heart is failing? Obviously, Dr., Buttwiggle is a dear and beloved part of our family.
Avatar f tn Another problem they don't recognize is that swalling in the very elderly is often cicardian in nature. That is to say that a patient that cannot swallow in the morning may be able to swallow reasonably well at night. My little one had such a cycle and meals at nine or ten P.M. were the way to solve it. Of course in a nursing home the residents adapt to the staff's schedule.
649848 tn?1534637300 I'm curious as to whether or not everyone HAS a weight loss goal (i.e. what weight are you striving for?); and do you have a specific date by which you would like to reach this goal? What are you doing to achieve your goal? Do you find yourself sabotaging your weight loss efforts? Do you have medical issues that may hinder or prevent you from reaching your goal? You aren't limited to answering these questions...........
Avatar f tn GAL results in the smallest little tumors within the abdominal cavity and over time cause gastrointestinal upset, sometimes diarrhea, and definitely weight loss. Treatment involved supportive management of the symptoms (cerenia is a great anti-vomiting medication you could try), dietary management to help with weight gain (she was eating a high calorie vet prescription diet), and initially prednisone and metronidazole to reduce the inflammation of the abdominal tumors.
212720 tn?1304379015 I have to do something. What book by Dr. Oz?
649848 tn?1534637300 I finanlly got serious about my weight loss in January 2010, but also had some other issues going on. Long story short, I have lost a lot of weight (approx. 45lbs) the wrong way. I am 5'4" and started out at 238lbs. I am now 193lbs and still have a long way too go. I know that what I have done was not safe, and want to be healthy, I just don't know where or how to start. I have been trying to make better food choices, but have not seen any results.
Avatar m tn Wish I had known these things before my baby got in such bad condition. I didn't know his weight loss was due to loss of muscle. Get on top of it before it gets worse. Wish you the best, broken hearted pet mom.
242516 tn?1368227505 risk of tendinitis and tendon rupture is further increased in those over age 60, in kidney, heart, and lung transplant recipients, and with use of concomitant steroid therapy. Physicians should advise patients, at the first sign of tendon pain, swelling, or inflammation, to stop taking the fluoroquinolone, to avoid exercise and use of the affected area, and to promptly contact their doctor about changing to a non-fluoroquinolone antimicrobial drug.
Avatar n tn When a dog loses appetite for more than a day or two, something is very much wrong. Loss of appetite in a dog as advanced in age as your Dally is something to be very concerned about. Don't wait and wonder - get to the vet as soon as possible!
Avatar f tn Please also make sure she is tested for her thyroid function (TSH, FT3, FT4). Hypothyroid in elderly people can also affect appetite and digestion. I would also recommend that she is tested for B12 levels, as deficiency in these can also affect health. Let us know.
Avatar f tn I have heard Topamax will help curb this weight gain and help with overall weight loss. Is this true? Do you have any relavent info for me?
Avatar f tn It also didn't help to have an elderly gentleman continuously ask me if I knew the chemist who hung himself. Or have a lady in her 90's wanting to give me golf lessons. Maybe I really did need to go to their laughter classes. I'm just feeling incredibly despondent and berating myself again. I feel I am worthless and I feel like a failure. The oncologist was really good to me. I think I feel overwhelmed because I keep letting others and myself down. She said she thought I had potential.
140437 tn?1215113342 I bought one for the sake of weight training and for a just in case those nasty things return! Take care and good luck!
Avatar m tn It sounds like this kitten is in danger, due to the weight loss along with the hair loss. Sounds like the fleas may be gone, but eggs may still exist, which could be part of the issue. But it really sounds like the dish soap caused worse problems for the kitten. Dish soap can dry out the fur and skin on a kitten, depending on the type of kitten it is and it's sensitivities. If she is losing weight and eating the same, that is a huge red flag and she needs help right away.
Avatar f tn I need a weight loss diet that is gluten, sugar and dairy free. The only cereals and carbs I can eat in small amounts are -corn, quinua-buckwheat, millet, non-gluten oats. I can eat potatoes insmall amounts but they are not included in the loss prgramme.I have lost three stone on the Dukan diet/protein (either veg every two days only or protein one week and protein and veg another week) and soya yoghurt only. I am finding it hard to shift the last 21 pounds. I am 11st 10 now.
Avatar n tn The jury is in on Wellbutrin. I don't like it. I am going to quit the Wellbutrin and go back to the Effexor. Somehow through gym visits and starving myself (not really), I will keep the weight off. The symptoms I experienced on Wellbutrin were heart palpitations, crankiness, anxiety, and my face broke out! Hey! I did lose 2 lbs, though! Even so, I don't think the weight loss was worth the feelings of being on the edge all the time.
Avatar n tn She has stayed cancer-free under her tongue. Testing started last year after I noticed her weight loss. The vet gave her an ultrasound on her stomach area. All they found was a slightly enlarged kidney on one side. She has had several blood tests at different times testing her cells, thyroid, liver, kidney function etc. The kidney function was slightly off but was not a concern given her age and her thyroid is normal. I also had a second opinion at Tufts Veterinary Hospital - same result.
455605 tn?1206054665 I experienced rapid weight loss, became weak and feeble, horrible head rushes, loss of balance, loss of motor skills, horrible nightmares, inability to sleep, inability to think clearly. Those are the main ones I can think of. I tried to explain to the doctor what I was experiencing and was told I most likely had a virus and to not stop taking the meds. I tried for almost a month to stay on them, then stopped.
