He has a permanent feeding tube. I think you are right that the intestine and stomach were swollen and not functioning properly. The food was simply not being absorbed and then ended up going back up the esophagus and coughed out. He did not have a normal bowel movement for 10 days, so that cannot have helped flow through the intestines either.
What is the recommended course in such cases?
This happened to my 16 year old Terrier mix, he lost his muscles mass due to a diet of low in protein. His vet prescribed a low protein dog food to protect his kidneys. This was the worst thing she could have done. I've since learned that his kidneys were not that bad for his age, and these low protein diets do nothing to protect the kidneys or cure kidney disease in dogs. He lost so much weight and lost his hair. He became very weak, and lethergic.

Unilateral headache may be due to migraine, ear, sinus or jaw infections, temporal arteritis. Pain on one side of the head, in an elderly patient, brought about or increased by cold and during night times can well be temporal arteritis. Other signs like anemia, fever and high ESR, weight loss, sweats also may be seen. This may be accompanied by pain in the neck, back. If your mother has any of the other symptoms, you must immediately consult your GP and ask to be investigated.

t perfect...but I DO have a problem with the idea that the elderly are purposely overmedicated in LTC facilities as a way for them to "behave" and be compliant so that they require less care.
And, just btw, OSHA has nothing to do with these kinds of regulations whatsoever. Ive observed state surverys...they leave no stone unturned. If something is documented...it better have been done...or the facility ends up with whopping citations, which is the last thing they want.
s currently developing a device to help aid people who have memory loss or forgetfulness. My aim is towards the elderly to help them with natural forgetfulness but also to serious deseases such as Dementia.

if you go I mean soak more than one pad per hour for a few (3) hours in a row please dont wait ,,rush to the nearset emergency room especially in the elderly this amt of bleeding is very dangerous.Your blood preesure drops corresponding with blood loss. I was curious as to whether or not you could speak to her physician on getting her into a rehabilitation facility. They wouldn't do a drip to wean her on pain meds, but they could work with her on weight loss (which if its a significant amt, I'm sure is contributing to her pain.) Physical therapy would not only assist in weight, but strength, mobility and they also can do quite abit in the aspect of pain control.
