Common Questions and Answers about Weight gain during marathon training

weight

Avatar m tn What were the results and their reference ranges? Did the weight gain start when you first started training or had you already been training for a while before it started? What dose and which meds are you on? Sorry for all the questions...but need to know to answer properly.
Avatar n tn At what point do you get concerned about weight gain? I feel completely ridiculous posting this. I'm 34. I've always been pretty active, not a marathon runner but active. I eat pretty good. We don't have any snack food at home since one of my kiddos eats all, I do have one can of pop a day but otherwise I eat pretty balanced. In Jan and early Feb I weighed 125. i was getting married and watching my weight closer than normal.
Avatar f tn Well, there could be a few reasons such as initial building of muscles that may cause initial weight gain in training, increased calorie intake than required for the physician activity, hormonal/ endocrine effects etc. Assuming this to be the initial part of training I would suggest continuing to train for a few more weeks before you are able to set a target for your weight. You may also consider consulting a physical trainer and a dietician to chalk out a training programme for you.
Avatar f tn I'm a 32 year old female, work out at least 4 to 7 days a week, either weight training with my dad, or running at least 4 to 5 days a week, 2 to 6 miles a day since I'm training for another half. I've been trying everything as far as how I eat, and I can't seem to get rid of the belly fat and my butt and thighs seem big to me.
Avatar m tn I recently began training for a marathon after a 4 year hiatus. It seems the more I run/train, I more experience what feels like a skipped heartbeat. It happens occasionally when I'm running, but it happens most often at night, when I am resting (watching TV or in bed). It sometimes happens 4-5 times a minute...sometimes the occurances are spaced out. Agian, the more I run, the more frequent the occurances.
Avatar n tn learn the proper foods to eat to gain weight before training, so your body will have the available nutrients for a successful training program. Consume more complex carbohydrates, such as brown rice, brown pasta and whole wheat bread, one to two weeks before you begin your training program. Complex carbs contain energy in the form of glucose, which will provide your muscles with the necessary fuel before you begin training.
Avatar f tn Marathoners benefit from a higher carbohydrate load, says Running Planet. Where you are in your training plan also influences a runner's diet. If you are in the long-run stage of training for a marathon or ultra marathon, you will need more calories and carbs. Fresh fruits and vegetables, whole grains, lean proteins, unsaturated fats and low-fat dairy. No processed foods they have extra sodium, sugar and fat and doesn't offer nutrition to working muscles.
Avatar f tn But I have changed 2 weeks ago, skip the Wii game, and 30 Elliptical/30 race walk 4 days a week (evening). plus 20 - 30 mins weight training 2 times a week. I still keep working out 5 days in the moring. 2 slices of whole grain bread (120 cal each) with coffee (cream and no sugar) around 9am at office. 1 slice of whole grain bread & some home cooked vegetable (little old & little salt)about 200 cal for lunch. tea break - 1 slice of whole grain bread with Yogurt (35 cal) .
9727950 tn?1421595533 I was just wondering what yall might be doing like lite exercises or anything really to keep from gaining to much weight. I seem to gain weight really easy, although I just lost 20 lbs right before I got pregnant, I'm worried I'll gain that plus another 50 during the pregnancy. I'm only 5 weeks 2 days and haven't gained any yet, but I know it's coming, especially since I seem to be hungry all the time. Any tips?
Avatar f tn Wow I could of wrote this myself! I too am 23 weeks..i have been working out and was just getting into running when I got pregnant and it was too uncomfortable to continue. No matter what works out I do or how often and how good I eat I continue to gain and gain weight! I've asked my doc and she told me to not worry.
Avatar n tn However, the surgery is scheduled during the middle of training for my first sprint triathlon in mid-May (1/2 mile swim, 12 mile bike and 3 mile run). I managed to arrange the surgery for the week after a marathon, but given the size of the cyst, he didn't want to wait until after the triathlon for the surgery. How long should I expect the recovery period to be before I can resume my training? One thing I read said avoid "strenous exercise" for 2 weeks.
Avatar n tn I have been suffering from constipation for the last 7 months also, and during an ultrasound exam, they found a cyst on my liver. I am currently training for a marathon, and have been experiencing some weird feelings in my chest. They are not painful, just more of an annoyance. When I am relaxing, I have a butterfly type of feeling in my upper chest and throat area, and I can feel my heart beating very hard...but not fast.
Avatar n tn All of these symptoms kicked in after I finished three months of training for a half marathon. After the 1/2 marathon the weight just kept coming off which I thought was a blessing. I thought that the exercising caused my thyroid to become overactive along with the stress from graduate school, work and moving. Do you think running 15 to 20 miles a week and lifting weights for 45 minutes 3 times a week would lead to thyroid problems? Has anyone tried taking Iodine supplements?
1714955 tn?1308757100 A diet high in whole grains, vegetables and fruit, with moderate amounts of lean protein combined with regular vigorous exercise alternating with strength training may really help not only reduce your weight but boost your energy level and mood.
Avatar f tn diet plan, you maybe be building muscle, which could account for the weight gain. Although a pound is a pound, muscle is denser than fat, so as you burn fat and gain muscle, it's possible for your weight to increase for a time. Another thing --- this one is most likely -- your diet plan may be cutting calories TOO MUCH and your body could be thinking that there isn't going to be enough calories, so it hangs on to what's already there.
Avatar n tn I have been training to walk a half marathon for the past month. I just found out I am 5 weeks pregnant and the half marathon is in Dec 09. Would it be okay to continue to walk the half marathon? I believe I will be 12 weeks pregnant.
Avatar f tn Unfortunately I only made it to mile 22.5 before throwing up during the actual marathon. I have not been able to use GUs as the consistancy makes me feel sick. I ended my training runs and the attempted marathon with a lot of salt deposited on my legs, face and arms....has this ever happened to anyone?
Avatar m tn Four years ago, I started training for a half marathon. I ran two and thought I would continue. I have always had symptoms of chiari, but largely pushed through them. However, about two years ago, the pain in my head and neck greatly increased, along with lots of nausea. This led me to start searching for answers. In short, I had a decompression surgery in July and I am having a craniocervical fusion soon. Running is something I had to stop, which makes me very sad.
Avatar f tn We are getting so much closer to meeting our little ones! How are you feeling? What's your weight gain like? I'm 32 weeks tomorrow and I've put on 25 pounds. Super uncomfortable at night!!
Avatar f tn I have always been a competitive long distance runner and I am still running 10km on alternate days, three times a week, with an additional 20km run every fortnight and a full marathon every other month. In addition, I do weight training and I am on low-carb diet. I am terribly fatigued by the fevers and it is affecting my timing. I have been to the hospital for blood tests and x-rays, including tests for my thyroid, liver, kidneys, blood count etc. The doctor found nothing.
Avatar n tn If you add weight training, the weight added will be in the form of muscle rather than fat, but if you do add weight training then you might need additional protein, but you don't need a shake to do that and you certainly don't need to eat whey, which is a weight loss aid, not a weight gain aid if you're not doing intensive muscle training, plus most people have problems with dairy. So again, just eat whatever you normally eat, just add an extra meal.
Avatar f tn The weight around the middle of the abdomen will most probably be due to weight gain and deposition of fat around the abdomen. Consult your Doctor. Do not self medicate. Hope this helps.
