Common Questions and Answers about Weight gain during fertility treatment

Avatar f tn I ask all these coz I find that I tend to gain weight when I'm taking some drugs during a fertility treatment. So, if u r taking some drugs, then they may make u gain weight, otherwise gaining weight before u find out u r preggo could be for some other reason. Good luck.
Avatar n tn we all are having the same problems and the catch 22 of weight gain which leads to depession which leads to weight gain etcl Any experts out there with a natural solution to losing weight with no pills. I would love to hear from someone!!
Avatar m tn Tyroid problems can go two ways excessive weight gain or the inability to gain weight (and these people tend not to complain). Most the time its detected with blood work and treated with scripts or even shots sometimes depending on how severe. Just let her know more than anything, that she isnot alone. There are numerous other people out there that struggle with same issues. Love her and let her know that you are there for support.
250084 tn?1303311035 Been following this thread as have abnormal weight gain 3.5 years off treatment. Male here... Exercise + 1200 cal still no weight loss with carrying 225lbs (about 55lbs extra after treatment). I have developed gynacomastia in a pretty sever form (male breast). As well as a number of other non-weight related issues - the usual aches, pains, fatigue. My GP also believes that it is from some sort of liver failure or inability to do its job and process much of anything.
Avatar n tn I'm making a list of all of my symptoms...dated pictures i took of myself during the weight gain to document how rapid it was, and i would like to throw out some ideas. This time last year I was a happy go-lucky, annoyingly perky 19yearold who used to model throughout high school. Now, I am a obese 20 year old who is depressed and tired of having to wear her fiance's clothes because nothing in my 2 closets and dresser fits anymore.......
Avatar n tn Most frustrating, I've noticed that since I stopped taking both, my weight gain has accelerated. Any ideas as to how long I need to endure this or ideas for correcting my metabolism? Thanks.
1217293 tn?1467357944 I still have 13 pounds to go, to be back at my regular weight, but I am now hopeful. The weight gain started with fertility meds and not working out and eating right. I am still taking fertility meds, but I am now eating better and doing 10,000 steps a day! Feels good to put on a pair of pants that were tight 6 weeks ago, and now are too big!! Hurray!!!
456732 tn?1338571429 I started the clomid and it regulated me like clock work but the weight gain was unreal. I had been taking it for 6 months with 1 IUI...that went unsuccessful. So we used a more aggressive approach and started injections (Folstim)...got pregnant with IUI but turned out to be a blighten ovum and miscarried at 11 weeks. So at least I know I can get prego even if it didnt make it. I am also on the waiting list for IVF.
Avatar f tn I had talked with my doctor about the shot possibly having an effect on my weight since I had not changed my diet and exercise routines and had unexplained weight gain. She assured me that weight control was only dependant on calories consumed versus calories burned and that I must have changed something without really noticing, that the shot could only potentially increase my weight by 5 pounds in a year.

454677 tn?1206691163 I have been diagnosed with hypothyroid within the last year, my grandma on my fathers side had it as well. I take 50mcg Synthroid. I was having the symptoms for about a year before anyone figured out why I was gaining so much weight quickly and felt so bad all the time.. I have gained a total of 80lbs and still going steady unfortunately...and I don't eat bad at all. I'm now up to 205lbs vs the 125lbs I was in April of 2007.
Avatar f tn I suspect, some of this is just extra fluid build up / water weight being released from bloating. During my period, I tend to urinate alot, as my body purges the extra water weight. I usually gain and loose around 5 pounds each time my period comes and goes, due to the bloating. I am not a doctor, but I figure that this discharge is one of the many ways my body sheds the water it retained.
Avatar n tn I went to the doctor a couple of months ago and he gave me birth control pills (yaz) to thin the uterus lining. But the pills caused weight gain. So, I stopped them last month and I'm back to passing heavy clots. It is a very difficult as I can't go anywhere out and have to be near a bathroom all the time. Is there any way to reduce the clots without taking birth control pills?
Avatar n tn I haven't lost any weight, but I do feel like it helps me keep the smallest amount of control over my weight gain. Has anyone lost weight taking 1000mg? Is 500 just not enough? Would love hear from you. You can also email me.
1915587 tn?1330315533 I've definitely struggled with the whole weight loss thing my entire life, so I can TOTALLY relate. After years of "dieting" I have finally come to the sobering conclusion that in order to lose weight correctly and keep it off, you have to exercise AND eat right. That's how I've kept off about 50 lbs for almost ten years now.
Avatar f tn I knew a girl who tried for a year to get pregnant...her OB told her to gain some weight and she would probably get pregnant. She was a tiny little thing. So she gained about 8 lbs and BAM got pregnant.... So I have heard both ways. Good luck. I know it is hard the way it is just having issues with conceiving and now someone telling you it's because you need to lose weight. Keep your chin up and know it will happen for you! SSBD!
Avatar m tn The increasing insulin doses to control my blood sugar was a contributing factor in a significant weight gain month after month post surgery. My clinic endocrinologist said I could not take Byetta because of its potential problems with kidney function, but prescribed Victoza. Drs have had limited experience with the drug but she said on the dozen or so patients she put on Victoza, some had good experience with weight loss.
242532 tn?1269553979 You have to resolve this dilemma before you can control your weight. Why you eat too much If you were in treatment with me we would have a conversation about this. I would ask you to explore why you eat too much by observing when you do that. I would have you ask yourself is it because you are bored, or frustrated, or depressed, or anxious, or is it because you are around your family or some other relationship and don't know how to handle your emotions?
Avatar n tn With all of this it has caused a lot of weight gain, and of course all in my stomach area. I gained 20 pounds in 2 months; and unfortunately I have to stay on the hormones to control the endo pain. I started taking Wellbutrin XL a month ago to help a little with the mood swings I get from the 'menopause' but haven't had any luck losing weight on it. Any help or suggestions would be wonderful, thank you!!!
Avatar n tn Being overweight can certainly have an effect on conceiving. The extra fat cells produce extra estrogen. Here is an exerpt from babyzone.c om on the issue: "There is a close hormonal link between the ovaries, the pituitary (which regulates the functioning of the ovaries), and fat cells. Fat cells can "produce estrogen," and this can unbalance the whole system." and "Without question, being overweight can dramatically affect fertility.
294666 tn?1253498923 Okay, so I feel like I am going to go CRAZY during this aweful 2ww. Why is it that life seems to be going by soo quick any other time, except for now of coarse?!? LOL! Maybe b/c this is my first real chance in 4 yrs to have a pos. hpt, but I feel I am definately getting antsy. I would ask if anyone has any symptoms, (I'm pushing it I know). I don't, but it would be great to have someone else to talk to.
Avatar f tn I went to my primary care when my cycle stopped and he told me to lower stress and gain weight (I was 120 at 5'9"). Since then I've gained about 25 lb and lowered the stress and quit my second job. When my cycle still didn't show, I went to an OB/Gyn. She did a testosterone, FSH, TSH and hcg and all were normal and I was not pregnant.
Avatar f tn I am thinking of my family history of diabetes and that I have been trying to get pregnant with the help of a fertility doctor. Too much weight gain worries me for reasons bigger than vanity. Do you know of any successful pregnancy stories post thyroidectomy? My fertility tests are all normal but I would still need IVF due to my husbands sperm count.
Avatar f tn This is very common and gets worse with weight gain. Basically it boils down to an imbalance in hormones. The hormone imbalance results in infrequent ovulation which then results in infrequent periods. It can be difficult to get pregnant with PCOS, BUT one should not count on PCOS to prevent pregnancy--its definitely not birth control! The usual treatment for women who do not currently want pregnancy is oral contraceptive pills. These regulate your periods an prevent endometrial cancer.
Avatar f tn It can help restore regular menstrual cycles and fertility. Fertility medicines, if you are trying to get pregnant. This is a very complex problem, and it is no surprise you are frustrated. It is important to see your doctor for follow-up to make sure treatment is working and to adjust it if needed. You may also need regular tests to check for diabetes, high blood pressure, and other possible problems.
Avatar f tn Cyclophosphamide also can induce amenorrhea and some problems in fertility during the treatment course. Methotrexate also has an effect on the white count. 5-FU can cause mouth ulcers and may contribute to lowering of white count. In general, CMF is one of the regiments that is most easy on the body in terms of side effects. I suggest you discuss this more with your oncologist. Good luck with your treatment. Regards.

1109947 tn?1273681888 I do have to say that I am struggling with insomnia, yeast infections, weight gain and restlessness. My fertility doctor only wants to treat me for 2 months and then undergo another IVF cycle. I’m worried that this is not enough time to treat the endo. I want the highest chance possible of becoming pregnant. My OBGYN said that most treatments go for 6 months. I’m asking for any help, is two months of treatment two short to treat endometriosis?
