Avatar f tn It is designed for animals that are not eating normally or even not eating at all, to keep their caloric intake high until they start to eat again so that they still have energy and don't lost buckets of weight. I am so sorry to hear what you are going through with Lucky. Your desperation is coming through loud and clear in your words, and I know that you are fighting for him with everything you've got. Does the vet have any idea at all what might be behind him not eating?
Avatar f tn Some dogs end up needing 4 times the amount of sedation than their weight would indicate. So there's a couple things that could have happened. In one respect, your vet was right: sometimes it just doesn't go as smoothly as it should. If this situation ever hits you again, you can ask for sedatives in the form of pills to give your dog before you bring him in for the final shot.
Avatar f tn When Angie received Convenia she had what seemed to be a cold which wasn't going away, she didn't seem gravely ill at that point. She had had some weight loss in July, but her blood work was normal. We did a thyroid panel in September which was fine. Then she had some hair loss for which I never found out the cause yet. After Convenia, she developed a high fever, she became extremely doped, she was hiding in the closet and she stopped eating completely.
1832268 tn?1326819610 Daily IV fluids given by me at home and pills have provided him with more than one extra year. His levels were off the charts when first diagnosed, weight lose was what made us notice something wasn't right. After 4 months of meds and IV his levels were reduced and brought way down. They are back up again now and it's just a matter of time. But with a good vet, money, and a lot of your own time, you can definately give your pet a fighting chance and more time with you.
1963554 tn?1325451090 I had to put my Boxer down today from kidney failure. He had been losing weight for quite sometime and his breath smelled horrible. My vet mentioned his weight on a visit back in January and said he needed to lose some weight so that wasn't a bad thing. I mentioned the bad breath and the vet tech said it was from him drooling they get an infection around their mouth. They gave us an antibiotic.
203342 tn?1328740807 The week we had to put Mickey down, I lost alot of weight. I was unable to eat and felt very very selfish for putting him down. I felt selfish eating because I know how much he liked to eat. I feel sad everytime I get a treat for Pj and think Mickey would love to be eating this treat as well. If I can give you one word of advice that to this day I regret not doing? At the vets office the dr asked my husband and I if we wanted to be with Mickey when he was put down.
Avatar f tn Benadryl is also something of an anti-emetic, and can be given at 1 mg per pound of the dog's weight, but I doubt it will be very effective in the face of this kind of vomiting. Worth a try though. Another thing that helps is calcium - lots of it. I was giving Chica 2 Tums a day during her last couple of months. The calcium binds to phosphorus which is deadly to those in renal failure.
2095142 tn?1333236800 Tracy love her and shows it with some preferences, like she likes her to open the door for her to go out and over a year ago we had a chihuahua gifted to my girls which was my wife's dog; and Tracy used to follow him on his plays and would let him sleep on top of her; She's been nothing but good and i wish i could be half as good in my life and personal actions and decision as she have been.
