Weaning off cymbalta with prozac

Common Questions and Answers about Weaning off cymbalta with prozac

cymbalta

1348086 tn?1370783185 The psychiatrist weaned me off of cymbalta back in March and April while introducing with notriptyline stepping up to 75mg. I have been on the full 75mg since the end of April. I went today for my scheduled appointment and let him know that I didn't think it was helping. He had stated something about getting me back on cymbalta with something called deplin as a supplement. I told him that I would rather not get back on cymbalta due to the awful side effects that the weaning had.
Avatar n tn I did hear that some people have taken 10mg of prozac to help wean off the cymbalta so I tried that with Wellbutrin. No way I finally just cut them both off. 2 weeks ago I tried to come off this as well and I went back on because of the terrifying suicidal thoughts and anger I was having. I can't express this to you enough, this is going to be hard and from what I have heard it could take like 3 months for the withdrawal symptoms to completely leave.
Avatar f tn So is she weaning me off the Paxil along with the Cymbalta? And is this safe for a week of taking cymbalta 30mg and Paxil 20mg for a week?
1348086 tn?1370783185 This is why your psychiatrist wants to see you. For one, Prozac, while being the easiest ssri to come off of, isn't the best for anxiety because it tends to be stimulating. Great place to start because it's got a reputation for being easier to come off of, but not so great for results. If it isn't working, that's what you need to discuss with your doc. If you want to go without meds, then you need to do therapy, which you should be doing even if you're on meds.
1348086 tn?1370783185 I took Prozac many many years ago and actually it did work well for me. So hopefully this will be the one for you.
Avatar n tn both help with my nerve pain. I take 50mgs of Lyrica 4 to 6 times a day. I take 60mgs of Cymbalta in the morning and 30 in the evening. I've gone on and off of Lyrica over the years. Dry mouth is really the only side effect I get from Lyrica, but sometimes I still decide to stop the med. Then I'll give in and go back on it because I need the additional help with nerve pain. I take the Cymbalta for derpession and pain. It helps me a lot with depression and some with the pain. Good luck!
1125419 tn?1259705049 I am currently switching from Cymbalta to Prozac. Was talking 60mg Cymbalta, doctor said to take 30mg for a week, start Prozac 20mg. I am experiencing severe leg cramps. Is that a side effect of coming off the Cymbalta?
1176402 tn?1278321169 Ok so last week i started to wean of my effexor 75mg and i'm down to 37.5mg an i'm doing great just the odd bit of stomach pain and little headaches but nothing more. i'm going to start one every other day from today as i feel great and on top of the world loving my life and family at the moment and carn't wait for our holiday in september.
Avatar n tn actually it can stay in your system for up to a month, it sounds like you just quit taking prozac , no weaning off of it? thats never a good idea, all i can say it youve made it this far, just try and keep going youll feel better soon or....... you may need to go back on it as it was helping with the anxiety! sometimes therapy just isnt enough and it may have been the prozac AND therapy that was helping in a combined effort.
1627868 tn?1333886342 m currently on Cymbalta because I have fibromyalgia, rheumatoid arthritis, and depression. It helps with the pain but I was on Prozac before and it helped more with the depression.
804276 tn?1480858056 i want to start taking cymbalta for bipolar depression and chronic pain and wondered if anyone takes this, what the side effects are and how it helped with pain and depression. i take prozac and lortab and would like to get off the lortab and can't take prozac all the time because it makes me severely anxious if i'm not in a major depression. any advice or experience stories would be helpful.
Avatar f tn antidepressants which were once effective sometimes seem to wear off. As lilymoon notes, both Prozac and Cymbalta are SSRI's. Prozac is longer acting (though both are taken daily); this is what is known as the half-life of a drug. For Prozac, the half life is 4-6 days. (it generally takes 5 half lives for a drug to clear your body); for Cymbalta the half life is 12 hours. So theoretically Cymbalta would be out of your system in about 3 days.
Avatar n tn I didnt taper off prozac and was fine
633768 tn?1232834261 you are just replacing one antidepressant for another, so you don't have to taper off cymbalta before you take the prozac...it will be ok.
Avatar m tn went thru hell getting off paxil which i took for 16 yrs. cymbalta wd sucked as well. prozac was hell.
Avatar m tn I have been using Cymbalta for alomost four years, I am very concerned that my Doc wants to start me on 40mg of Prozac when I have been on 120mg of Cymbalta. Can I have your thoughts about 40mg vs. 120mg and what side affects I will have to go though.
Avatar m tn She also switched my prozac to Cymbalta 30mg once daily to manage depression / pain and also started me on 25mg amatriptyline at bed time for I assume depression. What she didn't tell me is how to stop prozac and start Cymbalta, I read you can't take both.
Avatar m tn But at the end of the day - after 7 days of being very sick with withdrawl it was pretty much over - I believe you can put up with most things if its only for 7 days. I have mixed feelings about a tapering because it could just prolong the whole thing and w/d symptoms- BUT I suppose if its done well (and you're strong enough to actually stick to the taper schedule and not slip extra) it could be pretty painless.
Avatar f tn I am also going to talk to my doctor about using Prozac when I go completely off of the Effexor because I heard that can help with withdrawal symptoms and Prozac is easier to get off of.
Avatar m tn Yikes prozac? like others have said, that's not one of the best drugs, I was on Cymbalta, and I ended up in the hospital, you really need to see your doctor asap. I was only on the drug for a month, and took me 6 weeks to wean of it.. it's an evil drug.
390848 tn?1215804061 I have never been on prozac, but I have been on alot of other anti-deoressants Im on Cymbalta and you can have w/ds from Cymbalta and any anti=depressant needs to be taperd and only a very few I mean very few have w/ds!! Me im lucky I among the few the dumb and depressed, so I have w/ds from SOME anti-depressants but im not screwed up like I was. Most people are using or abusing pain meds or something to cover up a much deeper problem.
470885 tn?1326329037 I was weaning off of Celxa (20 mg/day that I've been taking for just over a year) about a month ago, and it wasn't going well at all. I felt like garbage overall for a week after stopping the medication - I went down to 10 mg/day for a week and then stopped....my GP's recommended regimen. There was no end in sight of my symptoms from this (dizziness, brain "rushes", irritability, fatigue - so he put me back on the meds and had me come back in to see him after a month.
Avatar f tn I was on Prozac for over 10 years with great results. When I started having headaches again, the first the Dr flew to was the Prozac and said I had been on it too long and it was not effective any longer. Since that time, it's been 6 months of daily headaches and countless medications and nothing has completely stopped them. At this time I started out with Cymbalta 30 mg for 6 weeks and am now up to 60mg daily and I can notice a slight improvement.
