250701 tn?1320974765 Sorry haven't been around, I have been sick for two weeks now. Went to the Dr. they gave me antibiotics, but they failed to take an xray. Come to find out Monday they took an xray and I have pneumonia. I have been home all week. Now I get to take my shot tonight and I hope it don't wipe out my immune system to bad. Dr. had to put my ribo back down to 400 until I get well. Well I'll let you know what happens tomorrow.
Avatar m tn Hi, I just had my 19th shot. Last week my platelet was dropped to 71000 from 156000, WBC was at 2590, HGB was at 10.9 and Neurophils at 38%. So I had 2 shots of Neupogen and Mircera 100 (Epogen) as asked by my Dr. My yesterday's bloodwork came as HGB 11.5, WBC 27830 (Range 4500-11,500) , Neutrophils 88 (Range 50-70) and Platelet at 156000. When asked about the abnormality my Dr.
Avatar f tn I have had bronchitis 3 times, pneumonia once, and a sinus infection once...in the past 3 months. I feel confused alot. My blood test show highly elevated white blood cells. First it was my lymphocytes, then it was my neutraphils, then it was my lymphocytes. Then my WBC dropped to a normal level, but my neutrophils were really low. The doc says she thinks its an autoimmune disease, a blood production disease or cancer.
Avatar m tn i totally worried about the same thing i hav had heaps of flue cold virus type probs on tx and also its easy to tell the diff between flue symptoms and the real deal, well for me it is cos gettin flue u feel 10 times more crappier than the ev day symptoms.
242516 tn?1368223905 m sure you have a friend who has the sniffles, fever, chills, aches and pains of a viral upper respiratory infection. This is different from a bacterial infection such as sinusitis, bronchitis, or pneumonia. A viral infection doesn't improve with antibiotics as these infections do. A virus hijacks your own body's healthy cells and uses it to reproduce and spread. A bacteria is its own living cell and multiplies and spreads on its own and is easier to destroy in that process.
1618318 tn?1318196283 I have swallowing disorders that put me at risk for aspiration pneumonia. Are there any tests that can be done to differentiate the type of pneumonia? I have had several xrays done on my chest and was put on antibiotics.
Avatar f tn Higher Absolute Neutrophil counts in a CBC is sometimes related with bacterial infection which is pyogenic, acute inflammation, Acute MI, infarct, burns, drugs like prednisone, appendicitis spleenctomy, or even stress and nervousness. The normal range is 1500cells per micro liter where your values appears to be around 12500 which may indicate acute inflammation.
Avatar n tn WBC has to do with the body fighting some infection. It does that for many infections we developed. It doesn't have to do with HIV only. If you had a fever it is an indication that your body is trying to fight an infection. We get fevers when we have the flu and pneumonia. OH, from my experience the after effects of a long bout of antibiotics seem to be very wicked. The antibody test must be administered to determine your HIV status.A routine blood test by your doctor will not do either.
Avatar m tn Doctor is never able to pinpoint what type of bacterial infection is present. Most recent labs reveal WBC of 23,000 with high neutrophils (did not know percentage). I was told it was infection but do not know what kind. My child has been on 3 rounds of antibiotics and WBC has only gone up and fever has been present for 3 days. Any advice.
Avatar n tn Hi community, Over a year ago I had a brief exposure of unprotected(I'm female)vaginal sex. No ejaculation and less than a few minutes. I had the 4th gen test at almost 8 weeks and almost 10 weeks. In addition I performed an at home Oraquick at 6 and 6 1/2 months. All negative. Dr. Hook and my GP both assured me I am negative. However, I recently for the first time in my life have been diagnosed with bacterial lobar pneumonia. I'm healthy and in my 30s.
Avatar n tn My Doctor basically just told me I have a bacterial infection and put me on more antibiotics. That's fine and all but if anyone could help me and tell me what kind of bacterial infection it could be I'd appreciate it! I know I'm sick, I just want to know what's making me so sick.
Avatar f tn Why are you taking tylenol? The fever is part of the immune system. Pathogenic organisms can only replicate within a narrow temperature range. The elevated body temperature is necssary to kill them. I cannot understand why these anti-fever meds are pushed by physicians who should know better. Take your time recovering. These lung infections can be very dangerous. Drink plenty of fluids, walk around a bit, and stay warm. Often a bacterial infection "piggybacks" on a viral infection.
Avatar f tn When the permeability of these capillaries increase, bacteria pass through them into the blood stream. The infection also spreads through the release of bacterial toxins into the blood stream. Hope this helps. Take care!
Avatar m tn The doctor should have done a culture with sensitivity. This would give him/her a variety of antibiotics that the bacteria would be sensitive to. If he did do a sensitivity test then it shouldn't be a problem but a lot of doctors treat by symptoms and don't do the culture/sensi and then the antibiotic that is thought to be sensitive turns out to become resistant.
Avatar f tn Many bacteria can only replicate within narrow temperature ranges. Usually a fever suggests a bacterial infection. I suspect you have taken meds to lower the fever. Yellow mucus is the hallmark of a bacterial infection, but not always. Ideally one takes a culture before prescribing, however current practice is a broad spectrum antibiotic. In any event crystaline vitamin C to bowel tolerance and drinking plenty of electrolytes will help.
Avatar f tn The counts could be on higher side due to pneumonia and due to stress. Even if you have costochondritis, the WBC count can be high. If you have costochondritis, you can apply a pain killer gel and use a heating pad at the site where you have pain. Since ECG is normal, the pain can also be due to acidity. Take Omeprazole empty stomach in morning and an antacid gel at bedtime. Refrain from smoking, alcohol, fuzzy drinks and spicy food. See if this helps.
Avatar m tn You can also get bacterial pneumonia as a secondary infection. Bacterial pneumonia is usually caused by a bacteria called Streptococcus pneumoniae. It is a bacteria that can be in the throat or respiratory tract in small numbers and it can be normal bacteria until someone gets run down due to a viral infection, fungal infection or other reasons. Then the Streptococcus bacteria can take over the lungs and cause a bad infection. It is treatable with antibiotics.
Avatar m tn Since you are normally high with your wbc count that is okay otherwise I would say you were fighting off a bacterial infection. It looks fine to me. I am not a doctor but I am a microbiologist and had a course in hematology. Some experience in the lab with it as well. So that is my take on it.
Avatar m tn These complications can include dehydration, ear or sinus infections, and bacterial or viral pneumonia, which can fill the air sacs in the lungs with pus or fluid, making it difficult to breathe and depriving older patients of adequate oxygen. In some cases, pneumonia may be asymptomatic, but it is still contagious if it results from a bacterial or viral infection.
291885 tn?1404893207 I think taht lymphocytosis in blood may be more pronounced in a virus infection. Activated B-lymphocytes transform to plasma cells and begin to make antibodies in lymph nodes and other tissues. Eosinophils can phagocytose antibody-antigen complexes. Eosinophils can increase particularly in hypersensitivity and in parasite infections. Monocytes increse in mononocleosis. I have had chronic infections (Lyme is not yet sure).
Avatar f tn 3 weeks on doxicycline and a week on azithromyacin and I still have a fever and infection (Was diagnosed with A-typical pneumonia). I also have a lymphnode that is much larger and more prominent than any others and has been for a few months but does not hurt. I had my blood counts checked and my WBC is high (14.0) even after all of the antibiotics. My TSH level has also gone up to 38.6 again creating massive exhaustion.
