Avatar m tn Next, you’ll create a list of 10 to 20 scary situations that progress toward your final goal. For example, if you final goal is to overcome your fear of flying, you might start by looking at photos of planes and end with taking an actual flight. Each step should be as specific as possible, with a clear, measurable objective. Working through the steps. Under the guidance of your therapist, you’ll then begin to work through the list.
Avatar m tn As the others have said, you have no risk. If you're unable to do your job as a result of your irrational phobia of HIV, you need to speak to your supervisor about being reassigned to a position in which you won't be around patients or needles because you're likely to make a mistake due to your phobia.
Avatar m tn I'm sorry to interrupt but is there any chances of getting hiv except those ways mentioned before? because i'm so freaking out when using the hotel towel to clean my tip of penis, being afraid there were semen on it. and then it come to my urethra..
Avatar f tn , cups, paper, sticks, trash, etc, but I have fear of it being a needle. The funny thing is, most of the time, I never review the photos; I guess just knowing I have them brings me relief. Before, I was even using a picker to pick things up off the ground, which I would store in the trunk of my car; however, I've pretty much gotten past that. It has come to the point that my condition is impacting my relationship.
Avatar m tn scarlett11 Try a sleep app that has dozens of recordings of therapists telling you how to go to sleep. You get to select which one you want to listen to, and I often listen to the same recording for months. Sometimes I fall asleep in the first few minutes but for that to work, I have to pay attention to what the speaker says.
Avatar m tn She said she is negative, so it is up to you to figure whether or not to trust your friend that she had no other unprotected vaginal after her last test window. If you don't want to trust your friend's word, you need to test with a duo after 4 weeks or any other test after 12 for a conclusive result. Ask her when she tested last because if it was recent, that will help cut your anxiety while you wait for your test.
Avatar n tn I have had a toothache/facepain for over two weeks, I know I need to go and see a dentist but I have a great fear of going because of cetain circumstances that happened while going to the dentist as a child. Avatar f tn There are two ways to overcome irrational fear. One is education. Educate yourself on HIV and how it is transmitted. Let me sum that up for you: Not this way. The ONLY ways adults get HIV is from unprotected vaginal and anal intercourse (penetration required) and sharing of IV drug needles. That is IT. Saliva and air inactivate the virus. So, no, nope, nada chance (ZERO) for getting HIV through a straw.
Avatar n tn Aside from some adversion therapy, I suppose some talk therapy could help you out, but I think it would be a waste of money. You said you also have a fear of bloodwork. Most of us with anxiety issues have fears when we go for any kind of test, be it bloodwork or an X-ray or CT......so this is also very common. You said you just had some blood work done and you obviously survived, but now you have a fear that they used a dirty needle.
Avatar f tn To overcome anxiety, one must understand the logic of why the brain is feeling threatened, it sends messages to the body saying its under threat. New pathways need to be created to overcome the old programming. So for example, if you panic over a fear of flying, you must start flying and let the brain realise that its all okay, and reprogram the thoughts. However, the fear of dying can't really be practiced. Some buddhists meditate in a morgue as it is the closest we can get to dying.
Avatar f tn I didnt feel any splash in my eyes but i am so worried that some droplets of blood from the needles might got into my eyes. And the worst thing if it has Hiv blood. i am so worried about getting infected by hiv. What do you think? Thank you for your answers.
Avatar f tn I took my son to one of those yu-gi-oh card trading places so he could play his game with others but as I was watching them play and trade cards or made me think well if one of the other kids was infected with hiv or anything and there trading cards with my son then could they spread the hiv by giving my son a card of theirs or by high fiving them?
Avatar f tn Again, IV drug needles are different than blood draws. That you had a blood draw, then an HIV test because of fear of the blood draw and then renewed needle fear from the hiv test? Sounds like classic anxiety. I'd work on the anxiety. Have you posted about this on the site before now?
Avatar f tn I have no real reason to be scared but I just always fear that I will get bad news,... But if u plan to keep the baby you have to do it.just try not to think about it, and get it over with.once yo do it, it will be done and you will just need to try to relax and wait. It's better to be safe than sorry anyways. Most likely your totally fine and Once u do it you won't have to worry about again.
Avatar m tn I was trying to get assurance on one symptoms, another symptoms I will pickup from the internet, like this cycle continuing, While browsing the anxiety I came across a word Variant Angina(which is without blockage, your arteries will go to temporary spasm/stop blood) I somehow manage to overcome this fear after lot of efforts but, one setback came, that, the way to diagnose is to hyperventilate the patient & do EKg. Since then i got more feared.
Avatar n tn Can you seek help from a psychologist to help you overcome this? To remind you one last time, the risks for HIV are to have unprotected (without condom) penetrating vaginal or anal sex or to share IV needles to inject drugs. Air and saliva inactivate the virus. So, hand jobs and breast sucking are not risks in any way. Anxiety is hard. But it is treatable. Online options for treatment are more and more prevalent and medications to treat are tolerable.
Avatar f tn I myself have a fear of needles, this is my second pregnancy.
Avatar f tn t share hollow needles to inject with which is the only other way to acquire hiv - there are only 3 ways to get hiv. Analysis of large numbers of infected people over the 40 years of hiv history has proven that people don't get hiv in the way you are worried is a risk. HIV is a fragile virus in air or saliva and is effectively instantly dead in either air or saliva so the WORST that could happen is dead virus rubbed you, and obviously anything which is dead cannot live again so you are good.
Avatar m tn Now I want to ask a new question regarding one of my friends. Yesterday she went to get a tatoo. After she came back she was histerical because the woman before her was bleeding a lot during the procedure, and the man who was doing her the tatoo after finished the work on her didnt sterilise the needle only sprayed it with some kind of desinfectant and after it dryed started to work on my friend. Can my friend get HIV after this? I now it is too soon to do the HIV test but is her at risk?
Avatar m tn You are stuck in the viscious cycle of doubt. Needles are not reused. Have you ever been diagnosed with OCD or Anxiety in general? It is hard to say whether this is OCD or Health Anxiety.
Avatar n tn Ahh don't worry about hiv and hep from things like that. hiv survives for only minutes outside the body- it's killed by oxygen and water so in a washing machine- it'd definitely be dead and you can't get things from touching objects!! The skin is the best barrier we have for infection so you have NO WORRIES there!
Avatar f tn If you are suffering from an irrational fear of HIV, then it is a good idea to seek therapy. Therapy can help you overcome those fears.
