Avatar f tn I test my own blood and adjust my dosage of warfarin. Usually I'm right in range 2.5 to 3.5 (2 art heart valves). About 6 to 8 weeks ago, I took augmentin for 10 days, 2 weeks ago, I took another antibiotic for 5 days. Since then, my PT/INR has been too low, 2.0. My diet and meds have stayed the same. I've been increasing my dose, yet it's still too low. Is it normal for this change? Please see my profile! Can it indicate my lupus activity?
Avatar n tn A drastic change in diet can alter INR also, but in my own personal experience, it has usually been other meds that caused me to need to change my warfarin dosage and not my diet. An INR that is consistently out of range is dangerous. Don't worry about maintaining the same dose of warfarin. Worry about maintaining an INR that is consistently within range. Whatever dose of warfarin you have to take to stay in range is okay.
Avatar f tn He has been having me go to the lab once per week. Last week my INR was 2.9 and I have been taken 5mg of warfarin. This week my INR was 6.6. I am concerned about bleeding to death. Please advise.
Avatar f tn I take Warfarin as follows: 3mg 2xda for 2 da and 4mg 2xda rest of week. Can't seem to get my levels even. Is the dosage too little or not enough?
Avatar n tn A 63-year-old woman on stable warfarin received large doses of APAP on 2 occasions. Each occurrence was followed by an increase in INR (2). After a cumulative APAP dosage of 14 g, her INR increased to 12.0. Contact gum bleeding and spontaneous bruising were noted. The APAP-containing product was stopped and the INR returned to 2.6 after 10 days. Three weeks later, she received a preparation containing codeine and APAP. After ingesting 14 g of APAP over 8 days her INR increased to 8.5.
Avatar m tn The only way to determine your individual dose is to test your INR at various dosages and see what dosage it is that keeps you in range. I'm sorry your first surgery went badly. That happened to me, too, so I can relate. Now you need to find a surgeon who can fix the problem you have with your mitral valve. If you needed surgery before this, you need it even more now, because the valve is less functional now than it was before your surgery.
1069105 tn?1256700412 to have any fact-based opinion on the use of 1 mg of warfarin a day... and to that find out what here INR is when taking 1 mg a day, and can she control it. Some people for reasons of diet or other (not know to me) reasons have an INR that "jumps" around.
Avatar f tn The most common INR target range for someone on warfarin is somewhere between 2.0 and 4.0. INRs of 5 or more typically are avoided because the risk of bleeding increases significantly at INRs above 5.
Avatar n tn I'm not a doctor, just a patient who has been on warfarin for the past eight years. I had a mechanical heart valve implanted in 2004. I'm medically literate, and I've tried to read as much as I can about warfarin along the way. I even went to a day-long CEU workshop for medical professionals on warfarin management and got the certificate. But I'm still not an expert.
Avatar m tn t get it to work last time and had to go to the lab anyway. The home INR checker is covered by Blue Cross and Medicare and they want it done once a week, which makes me feel more secure.
Avatar m tn My name is Joyce and I am 70 years old, I've been on Coumadin for over a year and my doctor has changed my dosage so many times, if your INR is too high do you take some vil."K",and what happens if it too low. my other problem is that my legs or rather the feet feel like lead, walking any distance is out of the question but my legs never felt like this, feels like my energy level is from 0-100, I feel like 15%. what can I DO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Avatar f tn Because I am diligent, I have been able to lower my warfarin dose and stay around 2.5. Once I was able to stabilize my INR, I felt much better. It is certainly worth a try because you will begin to feel so much better.
90270 tn?1199334469 They have to check their PT/INR levels fairly frequently because of the variability of this med and adjust the dosage accordingly. I can understand why Hep C would have PT/INR values due to the clotting problems that liver disease causes. But this tracker isn't for montitoring a medicine, it is because of a condition. As I said, coumadin is used for many conditions but those taking this med have similar woes as far as monitoring the levels and dosing goes.
Avatar n tn but what worries me most is the fact that Im now taking 25mg of Warfarin daily and have done for last 8-12months...I have asked my consultant why this keeps increasing.. but she just said that it was genetic and doesnt know why really... It probally bothers me more as i can only get a certain supply of 5mg tabs each monthso Im pretty much on rpt perscription each month for these which is a hassle.... Any thoughts or opinion to why my Warfarin needs to keep increasing to keep me in my 2-3 INR??..
996946 tn?1503249112 Those at high risk of bleeding may benefit from more frequent INR monitoring, careful dose adjustment to desired INR, and a shorter duration of therapy.
Avatar n tn Hi, I was diagnosed with Pulmonary Embolism 3 years ago with hypercoagulability (genetic) and have been on 2.5mg of Warfarin per day for the past 3 years. I have just had an abdominal scan, and was told that I have a dense, fatty liver. I have tried to eat as healthy as possible, but had to cut a lot of greens out of my diet, as it affected my INR and would have lead to me having to increase my Warfarin dosage. Now I am not sure if this lead to the 'fatty liver'problem.
562614 tn?1216245278 I would imagine that something must be very wrong, if my INR is going to go down, and KEEP going down, when they keep increasing my dosage. I really need help, my doctors can't tell me anything right now, and I need to calm down about it. I have several stressors in my life, right now, and I don't need to worry that I'm going to die, or something along those lines. I'm very fearful about this, please, someone help?!
Avatar f tn Given that yesterday he said to not take the warfarin he was changing me from the genertic warfarin and putting me on the brand name of the med coumadin. Said some folks do not tolerate warfarin well but do well on coumadin and i am to start the coumadin today. I would be lying if i didn't say i am a bit gunshy at this point. This med has made me absolutely miserable and today is my 43rd bday...
Avatar n tn My son has been on warfarin since he was 7 weeks old due to having a mechanical Mitral valve replacement. His INR today is 4.8. The highest it's ever been.He is six months now and just starting solids which may be why the INR has been all over the place. I have been instructed to withhold his dose tonight and I'll test him again tomorrow. I've been doing some reading that INR of 4.8 is undesirable but not overly dangerous. Is that the case for babies as well?
612551 tn?1450022175 I have been on Warfarin for at least 10 years and am happy to report that my INR is in the 2.0 to 3.0 range 90% of the time. That said, my INR today came in at 1.8, so I am below the target range. I have been (again - I took in the past but stopped for a year or more) taking a low dose level of Omega 3 using Fish Oil capsules. The recommended dose is 3 capsules a day, I take only one.
Avatar m tn Until 2 months back I was taking 150mg Ecosprin and 5mg Warfarin daily, then I was diagnosed with Hepatitis E and my INR value increased suddenly, so my doctor cut on the warfarin for few days until it dropped to <1.5 and then I started taking my warfarin again but my INR didn't increase. 2 weeks back my doctor increased my dose from 5 to 6mg but still my INR value is 1.4 and it is not increasing from past 2 months. Please help.
612551 tn?1450022175 I have been back on warfarin and aspirin for two days and believe my INR is back in the 2-3 range. In fact I took 50% extra warfarin for the two just past days. The thoughts crossing my mind: I didn't have a stroke, but could there be a clot that just hasn't yet worked its way to a critical point in my body? Now that I am back to the INR 2-3 range would any clots formed be dissolved.
5617263 tn?1374501466 I had another bout of A-fib yesterday and went to the VA hospital ER. The doctor there did not understand why they changed my meds to diltiazem instead of upping the dose of metaprolol. He put me back on metaprolol (200 extended release pill), told me to stop the diltiazem. My blood pressure this morning was 121/74, heartbeat 71. I'm a bit dizzy at times but overall feel alright.
290624 tn?1202328875 Hey, all, I have a question about warfarin. I have to take it for three months since I just had an ablation, and I am wondering if any of you women out there have experienced any heavy periods while being on it. I'm freaked out because I used to have heavy periods, although they got lighter after I started exercising regularly. I'm due around February 20th.
