Avatar m tn Warfarin, in a short explanation, help to stop the formation of blood clots if i understand well, but what about the existing clots we might have already.
Avatar m tn when you have a heart beat with a normal blood pressure reading and the heart rate is 114 and you feel sleep and want to sleep most of the time., what could be going on and am I in danger. I have had knee surgery 3 weeks ago and have been taking warfrin and went off of it by the Dr.'s order 3 days ago.
Avatar n tn After reading an article on postural orthostatic tachycardia syndrome, I discovered dehydration leads to low blood volume which causes low blood volume which lowers blood pressure and the heart increases rate significantly to supply blood to the entire body. BINGO! I immediately started drinking 2 liters water (distilled) in addition to my others liquids which were primarily limited to coffee, water with meds and exercise, and a few beers.
Avatar f tn Also, put some ice pack on the cut and apply some pressure. This can help the blood to clot at the cut. Avoid undue chewing and take semisolid or liquid diet. As soon as you feel the bleed apply pressure. Call your doctor immediately. You will need to get bleeding, clotting and prothrombin time done to reset your warfarin dose. Take care!
Avatar m tn The result of impurities in the blood vessels. The only way impurities can get into the blood stream is (1) by hypodermic injections and drugs, whether taken as medicine or otherwise; (2) by deposits in the blood stream of inorganic atoms accumulating from cooked and processed foods, particularly the concentrated starches and sugars; and (3) by retention of waste in the eliminative organs and channels.
Avatar m tn Usually people with a history of blood clots will be on warfarin for the rest of their life. Im not sure of any other meds you are taking but dizziness and nausea is a common side effect of many meds. Especially meds for heart and blood pressure. And it has been a hot summer..are you getting enough fluids. Nausea, dizziness and diarrhea are symptoms of heat exhaustion and electrolyte imbalances. Lastly, do you drink alcohol or take drugs recreationally? Suffer from stress or anxiety?
Avatar m tn There are other heart and blood pressure-type drugs that occasionally do have this side effect, though. If it has happened to you, you might consider whether another one of your medications could possibly to be the cause. If you will do an internet search for a list of photosensitive medications, you will find a number of drugs that can cause photosensitivity as a side effect.
Avatar n tn my mother underwent for the valve replacemet(mitral valve and tissue valve)before two years.suddenly she got blood clot in her leg.she ask to use warfarin to remove the blood clot.now she is getng back to normal.may i knw why was it happened suddenly and will it occur in fucture? will this lead to stroke? doctor saying cox of the heart rhythm problem. is that occuring cox of her valve?
Avatar m tn I don't know Atelenol, but I do know Metoprolol and AFib. I am currently living with AFib and taking medications only to control, lower, my heart rate (HR). Metoprolol does the latter, as well as given unwanted lowering of my blood pressure (BP). So I am treating AFib as a condition that is treated for "rate control" and for "clot prevention", I also take warfarin.
Avatar n tn Traditionally, the effects of plavix on platelets is minimal after 5 days. Usually, blood clots normally about three days after taking warfarin. This is quite variable and can be confirmed by a blood test (either checking INR or prothrombin time), prior to surgery.
Avatar f tn Vitamin K is what causes your blood to clot. Therefore the warfarin cancels out some of the Vit. K to make your blood thinner. I have to have my Protime (PT) checked every couple of months to make sure my blood is not too thin or thick. Really no big deal. BTW, it doesn't lower blood count, just the ability to clot. As far as the calcium or Vitamin D I do not know of any effect on those vitamins from taking warfarin. I will also check with my pharmacist per Sassie's suggestion.
Avatar f tn Have Afib (intermittant - every couple days), thyroid (hypothyroid) controlled with meds, and a BB (Metoprolol). Blood pressure is usually 130/80 pulse 65. If a little high, I do 5 mintues of Tai Chi and it drops to <120/80. I am trying to eat some protein at each meal, so had an egg for breakfast, small 3" square of poached salmon for lunch with string beans and blood pressure spikes to 160/100 with a pulse of 90+.
Avatar f tn If you have too little warfarin in your body, you may be at risk for forming dangerous blood clots. Medications, food and alcohol can also interfere with warfarin, making close monitoring even more important. Warfarin is taken once daily at the same time every day, preferably in the evening, with or without food. Many drugs can potentially interfere with warfarin and may cause your INR to change, putting you at risk for bleeding or a clot.
Avatar n tn I have been taking Warfarin for about 2-1/2 years. I am 67 and have some issues with thinning hair, but believe it is genetic and from my hypothyroidism. I don't have any of the side effects you've mentioned, and as Jerry said, many of these symptoms can be age related. Xarelto is one of the newer blood thinners, but my ep told me there is no antidote to the newer drugs and should you need emergency surgery they could be a problem.
Avatar f tn Warfarin (Coumadin) is prescribed to people with an increased tendency for thrombosis or as secondary prophylaxis (prevention of further episodes) in those individuals that have already formed a blood clot (thrombus). Warfarin treatment can help prevent formation of future blood clots and help reduce the risk of embolism (migration of a thrombus to a spot where it blocks blood supply to a vital organ).
Avatar m tn I discussed changing to Pradaxa with my cardiologist when that drug first came out, I decided not to use it because of cost (warfarin cost about 12 cents a day) and the fact I do well on warfarin, albeit I have to have my blood coagulation tested once a month. Recently I have seen a lot of "bad news" about Pradaxa including law firm adds looking for new participants in a class action suit, as I understand it...I could have that all wrong.
351404 tn?1299489130 as far a arrythma meds.. I take one 5mg Bystolic daily for blood pressure. hope this helps.
996946 tn?1503249112 Can warfarin weaken blood vessels or have adverse effects on the heart or other organs over time?
Avatar f tn ON july 25th my dad died.. all his heart related tests wee perfect...it was so sudden on july 24th his blood was very thin like water, and his pressure was 70/54..the doctor in my opinion made a horrifIC call and sent him home, saying he would fell better if he stopped all meds..to me this was insane!!!!! MY QUESTION IS ,IF THE COUMIDIN WAS STOPPED 1 DAY PRIOR TO SEEEING THE DOCTOR, THEN THE NEXT DAY HE DIED COULD THE COUMIDIN CAUSE A STROKE OR HEARTATTACK.???
Avatar m tn The most common anticoagulation drug prescribed after heart valve surgery is warfarin (Coumadin). The newer blood thinners are apixaban and dabigatran, also known as Pradaxa and are expensive. The main concern is that specific antidotes for bleeding are available for warfarin but not yet developed for the new drugs. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with RHD (mitral stenosis) and had mitral valvotomy done in 1988(open heart surgery/splitting open the mitral flaps) when Im 30 as I was planning for a family. I'm 51 yo now and I underwent gastroscopy & colonscopy at a hospital in Mar2010 as I was experiencing food poisoning and abdomenal distension, Results were clear except for a minor ucler in the small intestinal wall. A month later, my legs swelled and I was warded for CCF and atrial fribillation.
Avatar n tn If a patient has drug eluding stent (DES) implant it is recommended that plavix (clopidogrel) be prescribed up to a year to help prevent blood clots with the implant. If one has A-fib there is a risk that blood clots can occur as blood may pool due to the very fast beat. Information regarding the use of the 2 anti-platelet together can present a problem and the source is MedinceNet.com.
