Avatar m tn Dear Professionals: I am faint and dizzy on a "daily" basis. I've been to the ER twice and the doctor's office five times. I'm on Meclizine daily (I can take up to 150 mg daily, but I only take 25 to 50 mg daily) and 81 mg aspirin. I've had two EKG's, one Echo test, my MRI is on Monday, Jan 9th and a Bilateral Carotid Ultrasound, Jan 26th. I am suppose to start Lipitor.

Avatar n tn I eat avocados to lower mine. Mine was so high a few years back that the doctor had prescribed pills...which he said may or may not work as mine is inherited ( and yes, there is such a thing ). I ended up getting pregnant ( so refused the pills just in case ) and started craving avocados. Went back a few times for blood tests ( as is typical when prego ) and my LDL had dropped...by a lot! The doctor asked me how I did it...asked what had changed.

Avatar m tn One way to lower your cholesterol, an raise the good cholesterol is to take Red Yeast Rice, and Slo- Niacin. I had stopped taking the Lipitor, 80mg a day, and did not tell my doctor. My lab results came back better than ever, my HDL had never been above 40 and it was 46. I had tried everything prior to this and this is what works for me, so if you are interested, I get them both at Walgreens and Usually you can find the Red Yeast Rice on sale.
599170 tn?1300973893 Then, the pharmaceutical company that patented lovastatin filed suit against purveyors of red yeast rice, a much more well known food than the mushrooms, claiming the red yeast rice supplement infringed on the lovastatin patent. And guess what? The pharmaceutical company won! But some companies still have the guts to sell red yeast rice, and get around the patent infringement by making no claims for what it's for. Isn't that cute?
Avatar f tn Urine culture indicated budding yeast and some bacteria. Xray and CT scan showed no abnormalities in urinary tract . Dx was hematuria. One Diflucan was administered and 7 or 10 days of Keflex (I forget which) and sent home w/instructions to continue current medications. Family doctor referred for cystoscopy which was also negative. Urine cleared visibly for a few days and then returned, some episdoes darker than others but never enough to cloud visibility of bottom of bowl.
Avatar m tn UID= The above study has been in the news lately and compares both dietary and lifestyle changes with with Red Yeast Extract (RYR) against a more pharmaceutical statin-only approach to improve cholesterol, triglicerides, etc. While the study doesn't specfically mention HCV, studies do suggest that the aforementioned approach can be helpful with Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD), a condition that can accelerate fibrosis. http://www.medscape.
Avatar n tn ) If you want to bring it down more, well, you can try Red Yeast Rice, I take it and it works, it is a natural Statin, and it works like one without the side effects. Also, Niacin has been known to help as well. Try the Hexanicotanate type. I know it is spelled wrong, but a health store employee will know what you mean.
Avatar m tn I have been on statins for quite a few years, with problems. First was Lipitor, it did great for my cholesterol, but I started getting skin whelps on my arms. I quit taking it, and within 2 weeks they were gone, despite an allergist not finding it. I tried Vytorin, had muscle and joint pain. But in the past few years, taking simvistatin and a few others, it has been a mood/anger issue. My wife complains, telling me I'm pain to live with, I argue all the time, go off at the slightest thing.
Tbd t really medication as opposed to a natural supplement you can buy, but my doctor prescribed red yeast rice. It has worked great for my cholesterol and I have been off any prescribed medication for a few years now. Not sure if it will work for everyone. I buy mine at Costco.
