Avatar f tn After being on warfarin and plavix separatelyI had a TIA ,I am currently on both, and so far so good.Is this normal that my bleeding and bruising disappeared after combing the two drugs? i am happy but confused. Thanks Terry926 This discussion is related to Plavix vs Coumadin.
770426 tn?1235061489 I have been on coumadin for 6 years and I've never had real bruising problems. However, I just got a call from my EP who did my ablation telling me I no longer have to take coumadin. YAH!!!! I now have to start taking 325mg of aspirin a day. Why are you taking both warfarin and aspirin?
378273 tn?1262097621 As said, I also suppose (it seems reasonable) the frequency of AFib is a factor too. I am in permanent AFib. I take a half aspirin and 5 mg of warfarin a day. As for bleeding, try not to cut yourself, I'm serious, I try to be more careful with knives and saws, etc. When I do get a nick that draws blood I find a little of the usual stuff stops the bleeding fine...pressure directly to the wound.
Avatar n tn If bruising keeps spreading after a week and whilst takinh warfarin, should I consult my doctor
3772102 tn?1348093254 A anticoagulant like warfarin can case unusual bleeding/bruising, but if that happens one needs to discuss the causes with their doctor. If you were in a traffic accident and that caused the bruises it seems wise to me to seek medical evaluation - perhaps the emergency room in a hospital.
Avatar m tn Factors such as aging capillaries or thinning skin, and even certain diet supplements and medications( aspirin, warfarin, etc) may cause easy bruising. Bruising may also indicate something more serious, such as a blood-clotting problem or a blood disease. If it persists, have this evaluated further for proper management. Blood tests including platelet count may be done. Once a bruise has formed, not much can be done to treat it. Most eventually disappear as your body reabsorbs the blood.
Avatar n tn I have chronic back issues and osteoarthritis in my right hip. This morning after my shower I noticed bruising all along my lower back, where I usually have pain. What does this mean?
Avatar f tn Hi i suffer from blood clots i suffered a PE, arterial clots and dvt all at the same time, i also clotted while on warfarin in hospital so the doctors want my inr higher than most between 2 and 3. My last inr results were 2.9 and i take 8mg of warfarin.
1569985 tn?1328247482 It seems to me everything interacts with Warfarin. I always check with the Coumadin clinic and the pharmacy before I take any new drug, otc or not. Can you drop off half a pill? I have done that when mine was high and then gone back to regular dosing. I hope you find the problem quickly. Let us know what you find out if you feel it would be of help to others on this drug. BTW, I am doing better on 1/2 of a 25 mg. Atenolol at night and nothing thru the day.
Avatar n tn I have been on Warfarin for over a month and suddenly developed a rash on my arms and legs. What can I do about it?
Avatar f tn I had two coated stents inserted March 22, 2010 and have been taking plavix, 81 mg aspirin and continue taking coumadin (5mg 6 days and 6 mgs 1 day a week). I have my blood tested for IN/PTR regularly. Since taking Plavix and aspirin I have severe bruising. I try to be careful but bruise just brushing against a doorway, for example. My dog was sitting on my lap and when he jumped off to the floor the pressure of lifting off caused bruising on both legs.
Avatar n tn So you need to try to find out why is she having this bruising. Is she elderly? Because the skin gets thinner as one ages and bruises can happen easier. Since a leg is being affected with spasms and vascular symptoms, you might ask the doctor if they can use a doppler to check to flow of blood in the area, after they make sure she doesn't have a blood clot causing the cramping in her leg.
Avatar n tn Did you ever find an answer to your itching and bruising? I'm going through the same episodes, as cancer runs in my family also. Please email me at e.
612551 tn?1450022175 I am on Warfarin and also was told to take 81 mg. asprin and that I could take fish oil. I drop off the asprin if I start to get bleeding problems like nosebleeds or bleeding when i brush my teeth. I too have been told to keep my INR in the 2-3 range. I have been at 1.9 and at 3.1 and I believe it's because of diet. I will stay in the proper range for a time then it will gradually go down or up. I do check my INR at home with a Phillips meter, so I check it once a week.
460830 tn?1347219306 Besides seeing your doctor, sound like you should, stop the Fish Oil and any aspirin/Ibuprofen for a few days and see it the bruising clears up. Take the non-aspirin pain relief if the headaches return. If the headaches are ongoing that should be discussed with your doctor too. I seem to be one who doesn't bruise easily. I take 5 mg warfarin, 81 mg aspirin and 1 capsule of fish oil (three capsules are recommended by the supplier) and I have not sign of bruising.
Avatar m tn Enhanced hypoprothrombinemic response to warfarin has been reported in patients with acute alcohol intoxication and/or liver disease. The proposed mechanisms are inhibition of warfarin metabolism and decreased synthesis of clotting factors. Binge drinking may exacerbate liver impairment and its metabolic ability in patients with liver dysfunction. The risk of bleeding may be increased. Conversely, reductions in INR/PT have also been reported in chronic alcoholics with liver disease.
Avatar f tn I got my latest blood results yesterday and it has increased again..with this and the recurring bruising happening together I can't help but think they are related. Do I have a breast lump problem, maybe not instigated by an injury as I've had the same injury to both breasts before and since and haven't had any lumps/recurrent bruising as a result..or a blood coagulation problem, or both!
Avatar n tn After a cumulative APAP dosage of 14 g, her INR increased to 12.0. Contact gum bleeding and spontaneous bruising were noted. The APAP-containing product was stopped and the INR returned to 2.6 after 10 days. Three weeks later, she received a preparation containing codeine and APAP. After ingesting 14 g of APAP over 8 days her INR increased to 8.5. A prospective, case-control study (3) of 93 outpatients (196 controls) measured factors associated with INRs > 6.0.
1569985 tn?1328247482 I am worried about being on Warfarin. I really smacked it, but it did not break the skin and I did not see stars, pass out or anything. I called the nurse and she told me to watch for double vision or dizziness, but she said they worry more about people slipping and falling and cracking their head. So far I just have a slight headache, but my anxiety is kicking in and that's never good. Has anyone had this happen? Any input? Thanks.
Avatar m tn t know how warfarin is affecting your life style. I have been on warfarin for years and had no concerns about running and bike riding, and using power wood working tools. All of these activities puts one at an increased risk of a cut and bleeding, but I simply take the risk. On the other hand, I don't sky dive, or pick fights ....
Avatar n tn ginger and glucosamine sulfate will affect coumadin (warfarin) I'm on warfarin and can't take ginger or glucosamine and a host of other supplements.
Avatar f tn DOES ANYONE KNOW IF WARFARIN CAN LOWER YOUR BLOOD COUNT AND AND ALSO LOWER CALCIUM AND VITAMIN D LEVELS?
Avatar f tn Seven months ago I had a pulmonary embolism and I am told this may have been the second one.I am taking 7 mg of warfarin a day and my INR is 2.5.I had a liver transplant 10 months ago,and was told my vascular system was not great.Given my overall situation I am concerned about heart attacks and strokes.Do you think I should be taking 75mg of aspirin a day as well as the warfarin? Thanks.
Avatar n tn She has been on warfarin and monitors it regularly. She also has past history endometriosis and has always had heavy periods and problems with her periods. She also has uterine fibroids that have been giving her problems, even more so since the warfarin. Between the uterine fibroids and the warfarin, her menses are extremely heavy. She is on iron because she tends to be anemic around her period. Her periods are so heavy that she can go through 4-6 large pads an hour, sometimes more.
Avatar m tn RIght when they found it they put me on the full dose of asprin and another medication. The asprin is causing problems because I am a trick rider! It is hard to avoid bruising when trick riding! I feel I need to get another opinion to make sure I really have afib as young as I am! My doctor was surprized to find that diagnosis. I don't want to have give up my dream of trick riding!
612551 tn?1450022175 CoQ-10 is frequently recommended for reducing side effects in patients taking statins ( like Lipitor) and I haven’t heard of anyone on warfarin having issues. I would recommend consulting your doctor first (obviously) and maybe refraining from COQ-10 unless you have some nasty symptoms that you absolutely can’t tolerate which COQ-10 has been shown to alleviate.
Avatar f tn In addition to increased bleeding and bruising, a person may experience shortness of breath, numbness in the limbs, and ulcers, skin lumps, or purple spots on the skin. The type of treatment depends on the severity of the vasculitis and which area of the body it affects. Several medications, including steroids, may help. Senile purpura Senile purpura usually affects older people, including about 10% of people over the age of 50 years.
Avatar m tn I believe it could be a FATAL mistake if you stopped taking the warfarin. Mechanical valves will clot without warfarin and this could cause a heart attack, stroke or heart failure and could cause you to have to have another open heart surgery. PLEASE ,PLEASE talk to your doctor about any changes in the warfarin.
Avatar f tn I have been on Coumadin/Warfarin for at least 15 years that the nose bleed was my first bleed problem and was likely not controllable because of my anti coagulant.
Avatar n tn A drastic change in diet can alter INR also, but in my own personal experience, it has usually been other meds that caused me to need to change my warfarin dosage and not my diet. An INR that is consistently out of range is dangerous. Don't worry about maintaining the same dose of warfarin. Worry about maintaining an INR that is consistently within range. Whatever dose of warfarin you have to take to stay in range is okay.
