Common Questions and Answers about Vyvanse vs ritalin la

vyvanse

Avatar n tn My son who is 9 yrs old has started Vyvanse since January of this year. He is currently on about 25 mg of Vyvanse. The only thing that I don't like about it is that it takes a long time to kick in, like about 2.5 hours for my son. So often in the morning he will seem unfocused so will not do well during early 8am test. His doctor and I discussed trying Ritalin first in the morning and then adding Vyvanse, which is the reverse of what many people do.
Avatar f tn I have taken Ritalin for most of my life, but my doctor recently switched my to Vyvanse. Because I had some Ritalin left, I tried it at the same time as the Vyvanse. It worked perfectly. The problem is that the DEA are quite strict, and they don't think that is cool, apparently. Some doctors, however, are fine with writing prescriptions for two ADHD drugs; I just have to find out who they are.
1367899 tn?1278121440 My sister and I started a blog on Adderall to learn more about the medication along with alternative and complementary ADHD treatment options. Any feedback from users of Adderall or Adderall XR would be greatly appreciated. Topics to be added this week on http://Adderall.org How is Adderall XR different from Adderall? [Adderall vs. Adderall XR] What is Adderall? How to Make Adderall: [Adderall Background Information] What are the best Adderall and ADHD books?
Avatar f tn Then your choice is between the long acting ones like Vyvanse or short acting (take as needed) like ritalin. If you need any more info on the meds, let me know.
889551 tn?1416184483   These are shorter acting duration - up to 4 hours and many times are used on an as needed basis by adults.  There are also the longer acting versions such as Ritalin LA or Concerta which can last 8 to 10 hours.  Many times these are used by people with ADD because they don’t need the stronger stim meds that people with ADHD might require.
The second kind are the amphetamines such as Adderall which will last 4 to 8 hours or 6 to 10 in the extended version.
Avatar n tn It sounds like you're on too high of a dose for one. The second problem is that it's eating through your system too fast. I have heard other people talk about a lull in the afternoon from Vyvanse. I was on it for quite awhile. If you are having anxiety, it's typically when the stimulant is LEAVING your system when you're ADHD. The key to treatment with stimulants is to have something to help you come down after getting a good 12-16 hours of coverage.
Avatar f tn and to answer the question does he missbehave @ school he may not have the screaming fits but he is constantly in trouble for talking out and refusing to keep quiet in class has been sent to the office numerouse times this year. he is on 40mg la of riddleon we have tried aderol concerta riddelon nothing seems to work. i have tried taking him to counseling and he refuses to go i have to practically drag him out kicking and screaming for him to just sit there and not participate .
Avatar n tn Hi, I was recently diagnosed with inattentive type ADD not too long ago but i was also diagnosed as Major Depressive with lots of anxiety (nothing official with the anxiety, but it was definitely there) well over a year ago. The first script i was given was generic Ritalin and it worked very well... well enough to completely get off anti-depressants and for most of that anxiety to go away.
Avatar f tn I have a question about Vyvanse. Currently, I am on 70mg. The problem is it wears off after 4-5 hours and I experience the worst crash and depression! I have experimented and taken 2 Vyvanse 70mg in one day.. one at 7am & the other at 1pm. That dosage lasted me until 9pm that night. I have read tons of articles about this wearing off on ADHD websites & forums.I also read where doctors are prescribing up to 210mg of Vyvanse. The most common high dose is 140mg.
Avatar f tn He prescribed Vyvanse to take in the morning then before bed I am supposed to take Topamax (migraine medicine) and Trintellix (an antidepressant) as well as a diet. I started on the Vyvanse mostly b/c I also suffer from ADHD and it is really great so far for my attention at work. However I am really leery of taking new meds especially if I do not need them and even so I would like to see how I react to one before taking others on top of it.
2164295 tn?1337019528 I am currently taking Vyvanse 70mg in the morning, 10mg of Adderall (short acting) in the evening, and trying to implement a daily nap schedule. Over the last year the cataplexy I experience has increased and my muscle tone has decreased. I lost my job in September of 2011, because I was having such difficulty getting up to go to work and staying awake at work. I have tried taking Wellbutrin XL for the cataplexy but I don't think it has really done much.
Avatar f tn My son is 10 yrs old & has been diagnosed with ADHD since he was 6. He has been on Focalin, Adderall, Ritalin, Metadate & currently is taking Vyvanse. He takes 70 mg in am with 10 mg of Prozac & @ 3pm he takes 20 mg of Ritalin mainly so he can focus & concentrate on his homework because the Vyvanse wears off about that time. Then, about an hour before bedtime he takes 0.1 of Clonopine to help him sleep. If he doesn't take it then he is up all night.
1549092 tn?1297046311 I think you will find the information useful as it compares Vyvanse vs Adderall XR. Do make sure you also click on their ADHD link at the top of the page once you have finished reading. The site is - http://healthlifeandstuff.com/2009/07/vyvanse-vs-adderall-simple-vs-complex. You also might want to check out another very good site for adult ADD. Its has a different approach to the matter as it is all done with videos and was recently featured in a special on PBS.
Avatar m tn My daughter is prescribed ritalin and takes it at school. The doctor did a Urinalysis test and sent the sample to yhe lab. Well that didn't end so well because ritalin didn't show up in her system at all. Thank god that the day of the appointment she had school or it wouldn't have looked so good on me.
Avatar f tn For instance, if a person is on 30mg of Adderall and wants to switch to Ritalin,..you will need aprox. 50 to 60mg of Ritalin to be equivelant to the 30mg of Adderall. I am on 60mg of Adderall daily. I wanted to try Ritalin again just for the heck of it. I have shown proof from reliable sources, to my Doc that he needs to give me MORE than 60mg Ritalin for it to be effective as 60mg Adderrall. He still will NOT increase the Ritalin dosage.
Avatar n tn i have a long day and take vyvanse very early it is suposed to last 12 hrs but i think more like 7 i read that people take boosters with it i still have ritalin cause i just switched 2 weeks ago to 70 mg vyvanse and it doesnt do anything anymore did the vyvanse make it so it no longer works what is the best way to go about this aftr work i take care of my kids all night and have been lacking energy and very short with them which isnt fair cause it is not their fault id ask my dr but he would jus
Avatar f tn Exercise seems to be a big help. Check out these articles. http://articles.philly.com/2011-05-05/sports/29513112_1_ritalin-medicating-high-school-level http://well.blogs.nytimes.
Avatar f tn I suffer from EDS (excessive daytime sleepiness) in addition to ADHD of the primarily inattentive type. I find vyvanse and/or Ritalin to be helpful in terms of making me alert and functional which of course has the secondary benefit of improving my executive function issues. With adderall not only am I more alert but it also has a marked impact on my executive function and task management in addition to the wakefulness.
744777 tn?1235089263 By the way stimulant drugs, such as Vyvanse, Ritalin and Metadate, seem to make the PDD / Autism and Anxiety symptoms worse in some children. If the Ritalin / Metadate does not work you could try Stratera, a non-stimulant type medicine. Good luck.
Avatar f tn I think I maybe suffering from ADHD and am thinking about asking my doctor to prescribe me adderall or Ritalin to help me with consentration. I have never had problems with school before so this is really bothering me. I used to be a straight A and a couple B's student with a GPA of around 3.8. I'm afraid that my doctor won't prescribe me something for ADHD because of my anxiety and my prescription to Xanax.
14995990 tn?1437789661 So i was diagnosed adhd when i was 15, i am 20 now and i have been on adderal, ritalin, and vyvanse. I stopped the meds about a year ago and just recently got prescribed them once again. Im currently taking vyvanse 60mgs every morning because it really worked for me. But ive been experiencing side effect like dizziness, nausea, ive slept once in the past week for 5 hours. Im very confused, i see flashing lights in the corner of my eyes.
1092368 tn?1257774902 I was diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder and I have A.D.D... The Ritalin (LA 30mg) is supposed to help me learn, or sit still at least, why do I get an ubandance of energy from it??
Avatar m tn For the past three weeks I have been trying Ritalin. While my personality has returned, so has my forgetfulness and inability to stay onh task. Does anyone else identify with these issues? Is there an alternative medication?
Avatar f tn Vyvanse is metabolized differently, so could last longer in your system. It was done so you could not snort it like you can with Adderall. Adderall gives a stronger first "hit". V is smoother and takes longer to take effect so may not be as noticeable. Also the Dose of V should be 30mg compared to 10mgs of adderall XR to be somewhat equal.
Avatar n tn Hello, Angie. KatEyes is correct as always. If you are getting good sleep but are still exhausted inthe morning, you may have a sleep disorder. Talk to your doctor about a sleep study. If you don't have a sleep disorder then short acting Adderall or Ritalin will wake you up with an hour or so. If you're fatigued all day long, then a longer acting form of Adderall and Ritalin would work. Then, you set your alarm for two hours before you have to get up.
