She has an explosion of verbal tics and some motor tics. She knows just enough to know that her tics looks silly to other people so she holds it in for home. I feel so sorry for her.
I don't know if this is ADHD, more like ADD I think. Her teachers would laugh me out of the building if I said she had ADHD. I am so confused, just when I think I know most of everything about autism I find out that I don't know the half of it.

My son was on drugs for ADD and ADHD ,Adderall and then Concerta until we found out he was having Seizures ,witch can be a side effect from the drugs they give out for ADD and ADHD. Along with other very bad side effects. These drugs are like speed.I blame my self for my son having his Seizures and some of them you wouldn't know he was having them unless he was hooked up to the EEG .
I think the problem is more the Risperdal then the Concerta. Side effects listed for Risperdal include - Aggressive behavior, agitation, anxiety, stiffness or weakness of the arms or legs, tic-like or twitching movements, trembling and shaking of the fingers and hands, trouble sleeping, and twisting body movements.
The site said to, "Check with your doctor immediately if any of the following side effects occur while taking risperidone:" talking about those mentioned above.
I highly prefer Vyvanse over adderall because I do not suffer from side effects w/Vyvanse as with the adderall. The Vyvanse is much smoother than most all other adhd drugs. I have never experienced shortness of breath while taking Vyvanse, however, I am 25 years old and 180lbs. I am also a Registered Nurse. I would imagine that these annoying side effects will eventually subside with continued therapy w/Vyvanse. Give it 2-3 weeks becaue his tolerance needs to build up first.

First time I had the worst tremors and moto tics I'd ever had in the middle of class i looked like i was convulsing i couldnt control and of my muscles, hands and neck are the worst. Not only that but I felt nauseous and dizzy and just generally like i had so little control over my body. It's so embarrassing, which makes the tremors worse.
Then I gave it another chance the other day and my tremors were the best they've been in a while.
Concerta is supposed to last all day, and if its not, and she is already displaying side effects--- then I could see where you would not want to up the dose. Also, sometimes tics can develop after a long time on the meds-- its not always right away.
I have heard some positive stories about Vyvanse, which is a long-acting version of Adderal. That has once per day dosing as well.

Is this a tic? All of the motor tics i just mentioned are constant. The vocal tics he makes are sniffing, clearing his throat, and humming. This really hard on him his doctor has tried other medicine to try and controll it and nothing has worked. He started taking vyvanse about a month ago and it doesn't seem like it's working. Ok, I have vyvanse 70 mg tablets. Currently I have been on them for 3 days alotogether. I take the pill when i want to, I've takin 3 pills in one week. My first quesiton (1. Is it safe to take vyvanse when needed? If not what are the harms of it and is it very severe or no?. (2. MY BIG CONCERN. Its a love hate situation for me so far, i love what it does, the concentrating, the happy mood, love it! But I'm having awful side effects. The first day i had none.
Hi, My son has TS & has had very good results with Haldol with slight negative effects. When U say that ".... on the internet. All of them have awful side effects." Each patient reacts differently & won't have ALL those side effects or any. The percentages for each side effect are listed. Neurologists usually treat TS instead of Psychs. Also, Xenazine is for adults & was used in Canada & Europe before it was approved in the US about 2+ yrs ago.
Right now taking lithium, vyvanse, buproprion(sp?) clonazepam, tenex (for tics) , his tics seem to be getting worse again and his anger is just out of control. We have tried so many adhd meds (dr.s said vyvanse was the last one they could offer to him) cuz he just can't stop he goes and goes and goes, tried a few different meds for his mood, and some depression meds.
Certain medications can cause side effects in many of us that take it. Vyvanse is a stimulant, which in my experience actually helped me focus in the long term (I took another type in the same class) Initially, I was nervous about taking it because I thought it would make my anxiety worse, but these types of medications can "calm the mind" with those with ADD or ADHD in my experience with them.
