Common Questions and Answers about Vomiting of cats

vomiting

Avatar m tn t even keep water down, he needs to see a vet. Cats dehydrate very easy. Pinch the back of his skin by the shoulder blades. If it stays up, he is dehydrated and needs fluids PDQ!
Avatar m tn first of all...cats aren't evil...he needs to see a Vet, he is obviously having some stomach issues, perhaps the food does not agree with him, and the inappropriate elimination is likely due to crystals in his bladder that are very painful and he is trying to tell you he hurts!!!! these are caused by feeding dry food and are most common in male cats especially older ones.
592969 tn?1248325405 I do know of cats who vomit on these foods. When my cat was 4 months old, I gave him Fancy Feast but it made him bleed through the rectum. Turns out he can't really tolerate these commercial foods. Keep him hydrated. Use an eye dropper or syringe and provide water. Vomiting causes dehydration which can lead to horrible consequences. I'd quit Fancy Feast for good and switch him to other foods. Try Wellness or Natural Balance, see what happens.
Avatar f tn Of course cats can get food poisoning,
436973 tn?1217947089 Hi, my cat does this sometimes a couple of times a week and goes on a couple of weeks break and also acts perfectly fine-playing, eating, etc. I'm a little worried, too. But, she seems fine! What I plan to do is to give her a hairball remedy twice a week and see how that goes. I'd try that with your kitty, too. It's cheap and worth a try with our cats especially since there's no other symptoms.
Avatar f tn Place a small amount of olive oil or butter on the capsule to make it slide more easily down your cats throat to help with administration. Probiotics and ginger capsules are widely available over the counter at health food stores and online as human products. The dose for probiotics for your cat is 1/8 of a human dose twice daily. Ginger and probiotics can be combined safely.
Avatar f tn I know that if the vomiting started it could be a sign of her cancer returning, but she has no other symptoms at all. She's actually gained some weight and has a lot of energy. Should I be concerned and take her to a vet immediately? Or should I watch her for a little while longer before making an appointment? I hesitate to put her thru chemo again since it turned her skin almost black and she was so nauseous - barely ate anything. Could there be any other cause for the vomiting?
Avatar f tn Julia, hi.... It's time to take your kitty to the vet. Vomiting for 48hrs means your boy is now dehydrated. He is probably not eating either which is even worse. This is an Emergency. The treats didn't happen to be "Temptations" were they? These treats have caused a lot of issues for cats when given only a few a day much less 'way too many'. It doesn't really matter at this point, vomiting for so long, your kitty needs to see a vet ASAP.
Avatar f tn s vomited several times, so we cut back on the Atopica and only used Triamciniolene. The vomiting returned, so she is only taking Atopica, after which she agaom vomited. I'm told San Ren Tang may cause the remission of Pemphegus. Please help...I adore this cat.
Avatar n tn What should I be looking for regarding symptoms of this disease? He is one of two cats abandened after a fire. The other is a american short hair female. The female was not diagnosed with the disease at two years of age and was vaccinated.
11451172 tn?1418336366 For a little over a week, she has been vomiting a mass of hair and bits of food, surrounded by a little amount of yellow liquid every other day or two. But, immediately after throwing up she returns to her cuddly, happy self and has maintained a thick, healthy winter coat.
Avatar n tn ve never had a problem, none of the cats are over weight, I was taught that cats are snackers and know when to stop eating. Both of my female cats never have this problem so there must be a reason why Peetrie (my male cat) is over eating. The only thing I can come up with is the dog, he hates our dog, I don't think its the other cats, he loves his little sisters and always protects them. He bullies one of them but never hurts her. He seems to just enjoy scaring her.
Avatar n tn Here is what Mrs_Savas would tell you. Cats know what they’re doing. When cats are being fed a type of food that lacks certain nutrients, they will eat nonstop to try to find what they lack. Their bodies are looking for THAT specific nutrient they need to feel satisfied. It is a strong survival instinct. Of course, they usually gain weight because of the grains in the food. What would I say? I’d say I agree with Mrs_Savas.
Avatar f tn The cat has an appetite and was eating for about 4 days without any vomiting, and finally had a solid stool. Then all of a sudden he vomited over the weekend again and then on Monday he vomited in 4 different spots of the house. He has energy and a huge appetite. Can he be having these problems from overeating?
Avatar f tn After living in this apartment for about 9 years we were getting evicted, which meant that we had to get rid of our three cats that we had had for closer to 10 years. One of the cats was /my/ cat that I loved very much and I still get a bit weepy thinking about her. But it was late June that we were told that we had to leave our apartment by the end of July/beginning of August, and not having a great deal of money the entire month was very stressful for me and the rest of my family.
1761287 tn?1313824787 All of the medications prescribed by your vet were totally appropriate and recommended for the conditions for which they were prescribed. Cerenia is used often in cats and is totally safe if used correctly. Use of Cerenia in cats is called "extra label". Pfizer, the company that manufactures Cerenia, has assured me that it will be changing the label to include cats eventually.
Avatar f tn maybe someone can help you there, while you wait for a reply from the vet.....I dont have any cats, so I am really not of any help for you....I am so sorry about your situation....you will be in my thoughts and prayers....
Avatar f tn Hi there, I just found a cracked shell of a 400 mg Ibuprofen tablet (Advil) on the floor. Seems one of my cats may have chewed on it. Not sure if any was ingested. Also not sure when this took place, but I vacuumed yesterday so probably in the last few hours. They have been eating and seem fine, no vomiting or diarrhea. They are sleeping right now but do react when I prod them. They are both 2 years old, and very small, likely 2-3 pounds each.
Avatar m tn Help! I am at my wits end with one of my cats. He is a 3 year old male inside cat. We adopted him from a shelter when he was 8 weeks old. First, the vomiting issue. Since he was small, he has vomited on a regular basis. He will vomit once a day, for three or four days and then stop for a week or two and then start the cycle all over again. His vomiting can be at any time. He could be sleeping and jump up and vomit or it could be while he is playing.
Avatar n tn Out of curiosity why have you allowed this vomiting to go on for 6-9 months. If this were my cat, and my cat was vomiting after each meal, you better believe I would have visited my vet a long time ago. Purina at best is not a good quality food. She probably has lost weight but you just don't see it. I would suggest making an appointment and getting her to your vet as soon as possible. Vomiting after a meal for such a long time is not good.
Avatar f tn About a month ago, my 12 year old diabetic cat, Oreo, was hospitalized (vet and hospital on same premises) because he was vomiting after he ate. It was the color of his DM Purina food. Vet felt he should be hospitalized. He was in hospital for 4 days, on iv, xrays, blood work, etc. They couldn't find anything. The vet said he never vomited. Cost - close to $2,000 for 4 days for procedures and boarding.
Avatar f tn I know a lot of us have older cats so I started this thread for info predominately relevant to them. I have 3. Zylo is 14, Zany is 12, and Zena is 11. Lately, Zylo has not been doing so well. We have had him since he was about 8 months old and he has always been a very healthy cat. He originally found us as a stray and as a result he has been an indoor/outdoor cat all of his life. Our other two are strictly indoor.
Avatar f tn He has always been very sensitive and has vomited here and there as have a lot of my cats. He is very sensitive to meds and often vomits from them. He is fiv pos and has been very healthy overall. He is thin and in great shape. I give him benebac everyday. I'm wondering if you think he may have pancreatitis. I want to do an ipl test and I'm wondering what treatments to do if so.
Avatar n tn s meowing at me to feed her again. Sometimes she eats to the point of vomiting it all up. Why does she have this insatiable appetite?
Avatar f tn I have ruled out worms for that reason, he has none, and ive never known of anything else to cause this. His diet is the same as my other 3 cats, and they do fine.
5745288 tn?1373476059 I cannot bring myself to continue to give my kitty something I know is making him feel sick, but I am afraid to stop using the drug and have Fluffy suffer a clot. I have done some research, and have seen a lot of talk of turmeric as being safe for cats, and also having natural blood thinning properties. Is this true? If so, what is the appropriate dosage of turmeric to be giving a cat, and can turmeric from the shelves of a grocery store be used, or should it come from a different source?
