Vomiting in young puppies

Common Questions and Answers about Vomiting in young puppies

vomiting

Avatar n tn Puppies can vomit for no reason or for very serious reasons. If she is vomiting AND has loose stools, she needs a trip to the vet ASAP! She could have simply eaten something that didn't agree with her, she could be infested with internal parasites, she could have coccidiosis, she could have Parvo, there is no way to tell over a message board so veterinary intervention is absolutely necessary.
Avatar f tn The puppy is too young to be eating what their feeding him, why isn't he still with his mother.? He should still be with her for another month, then they could take him back when hes older. Theres a lot of things his mother could be teaching him and he would have the companionship of another dog while he's young and need it the most.
Avatar m tn Also, fecal oral person to personal sexual contact, and contaminated water. Sometimes pets especially puppies or young animals that have disease. You would have to be tested as stated nicely above. It is a stool test.
Avatar m tn id say get him to the vet pretty soon, vomiting and losing weight while still very young can be detrimental to the puppies health and could cause serious consequences if left to long. you don't want your puppy to get dehydrated!
5915818 tn?1377748240 Wow, TEN, isn't that unusual, maybe a record? I don't know what Gruel is, but I assume that means the puppies are now taking in more than mother's milk - the mother must be exhausted. I'm not a puppy expert, but respond mostly in response the the large number of puppies. What is the normal (not pregnant weight of the mother? On outside, how cold is it? MN has got to be in general cold.
1022125 tn?1251633761 Hi there...at this innocent age, these symptoms could mean many different things, including intestinal parastite infestations or even parvo virus. When was the last time Waggzy saw his veterinarian and what vaccines has he had so far? You need to contact your veterinarian soon...puppies this young don't have a lot of reserve to fight off infections and can go downhill very quickly. He is a cute one though!!!
Avatar m tn I just picked up 2 Great Dane puppies on Saturday from a breeder in California. The breeder said they were 5 weeks the next day and already wormed them that Wednesday and they needed to be wormed again the following Wednesday. Before meeting with us, she gave them sandwiches from a gas station, water and dog food. They were fine during the drive home and the following day one started to have diarrhea and vomiting. He has since stopped vomiting and will not eat much but is drinking a little.
4131681 tn?1350118297 hello, i have a 1 year old ***** and she has had 4 puppies and her one breeast is swollen and the puppies cant get no milk out of it ...... could it be breast duck block? or what could it be ?
Avatar f tn You should really get this puppy examined by your vet ASAP. It could be something minor, like a stomach upset, since the puppies are at the age where they are eating on their own but their digestive systems are not yet completely adept at processing their food.
Avatar m tn t get into anything else. Puppies are great chewers and they are too young to be able to chew rawhide. Rawhide will just give her diarrhea. I would buy her a Kong toy and stuff it with peanut butter or cream cheese. That will keep her busy for a couple of hours as she tries to get all that good stuff out of the middle of the Kong. You can also give her carrots (big, whole carrots) to chew on. Carrots are strong enough to put up a fight for a puppy and satisfy their chewing urges.
Avatar f tn If she is ready to deliver the puppies she needs to be at the vet. NOW. If she is pregnant but there is still time before she has the puppies, make an appointment with the vet to have her spayed so she doesn't have to have the puppies. It is very dangerous for her to have puppies at this young age.
Avatar n tn she stopped eating yesterday in the morning and is very lethargic. She is moving slowly and sleeping a lot. She had diarrhea yesterday and a lot of vomiting up until late last night, but hasn't had either today. She hasn't eaten since early yesterday morning and she usually 'loves' to eat! She does not look well. Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn d hypothesize (1) something they are eating, rolling in, being bitten by? Do they go outside? Do they stay in the laundry room where they might get a little detergent or bleach? or (2) a hereditary problem? Did you use the same sire each time? If so, he and your ***** may each have a recessive gene for this--something that wouldn't show up in the adult parents because they are just carriers, but would affect about 1/4 of their pups.
Avatar n tn Could have Distemper, need to know that first off, and got to go to vet...puppies showings signs of vomiting down the yellow/then greenish/brownish, need to be check for distemper,,,,,distemper can take a puppy's life... Has your pup got fever??? Is its nose hot or warm, gums reddish or whitish... syringe some mild flavor gatorade, only very little every 3-mins to hour till you get to vet, does the dog have loose bowel movements???
Avatar m tn I know that now is not the time to be petty or vindictive, however purebred puppies are not cheap, and any responsible breeder SHOULD have had a health guarantee on their puppies that should be honored in a case such as this.
Avatar n tn It could be something bad and I wouldn't risk it! Is there any vomiting? You need to head to an Emergency Vet ASAP! Intestinal blockage is the first thing that comes to mind for a puppy. (They will get into and eat anything!) Next would be "Bloat", but I do not know if it happens in puppies, I'd have to look that up....Good Luck and let us know......
1456473 tn?1365827455 Wait.... First you said she ate yesterday, then later you state that she hasn't eaten in 2 days.....This puppy is too young to be away from it's mom....So, that leads me to believe it came from a bad breeding facilty & could have any number of illnesses....Puppies this young cannot go out anywhere or even touch unfamiliar ground because of the Parvo Virus..... Vomiting and Diarrhea are classic signs....This leads to dehydration that can be fatal by itself.....
Avatar f tn It usually appears after the puppies have had their first shots, however it is not unusual for it to appear in puppies in the 3 to 5 week age group. You really do need to get these puppies to the vet, however, because once the pustules start, if you do not treat the disease aggressively, the pustules can cause severe scarring of the facial features. The disease is sometimes misdiagnosed as staphococcal pyoderma.
Avatar f tn A six week old puppy MUST have its shots, otherwise it is open to contracting many diseases, some of which can be fatal. If she is making a gagging noise, it could be that she has canine cough. A very young puppy who vomits is in danger of dehydration, so it's imperative to get to the root of the problem and stop the vomiting ASAP so that dehydration is not a concern. The vomiting could be an early sign of something more serious yet to come.
Avatar m tn No, it is not normal for any dog to have these issues, I would recommend a visit to the vet to have a set of hip x-rays done. Pit bulls and their mixes are some of the most overbred dogs there are today, and the bad part is that the people who breed them are not looking to improve the breed, they are either looking to have a litter of puppies to sell, or their unneutered or unspayed dog has either impregnated a neighborhood dog or gotten pregnant by a neighborhood dog.
Avatar n tn t have any blood in the stools. For more detail she was laying around, she had a blank look in her eyes, and she only threw up 3 times the day that she died, she wouldn't open her jaw or drink or eat anything, she was really skinny like the other dogs weigh more but she was really skinny, the puppies got ahold of a lot of chocolate the other day maybe that has something to do with it but only she was sick (is it that even possible?). Thanks for the answer it helps a lot.
Avatar n tn Vomiting can be caused by a number of things......However, in a puppy this young, dehydration can be a serious complication.... How long has he been vomiting (How many times?) and what does it look like? Is it full of food or foam? What color is it? Does he have diarrhea? How long have you had him? Another concern: Are you sure he has had his shots & wormed? Or were you just told this? The reason I ask is that this puppy should still be with it's mother....
793908 tn?1294705109 The puppies from one horn are born, the mother rests for a little bit, and then she delivers the puppies from the other horn. There should only be an hour or so in between horns. If she is pushing longer than that and not producing any puppies, it's important to have her checked out by a vet since it's possible for her to become exhausted and not have the energy to push out the remaining puppies.
Avatar f tn Depending on your puppies vaccine status viral diseases such as Parvovirus may be the issue. Vomiting leads to dehydration which can be fatal in dogs and puppies if not treated.
1308516 tn?1273442280 I would not recommend using either on puppies that young when you don't know what the cause is. Using chemicals and antibiotics topically will probably only result in mama licking it off. Young pups do not have a developed immune system yet and using antibiotics on something that isn't a bacterial infection can inhibit development of their immune system and will do nothing to heal the rash. Mommas lick their pups in the genital and lower abdominal area to stimulate urination.
