Avatar m tn If there is obstruction, nasogastric tube is placed to help relieve abdominal distention and vomiting. Surgery may be needed to relieve the obstruction if the tube does not relieve the symptoms, or if there are signs of tissue death. Complications such as electrolyte imbalances, infection, perforation and tissue death should be avoided especially with her medical history.
1897635 tn?1321402214 Fecal breath odor typically accompanies fecal vomiting associated with a long-standing intestinal obstruction or gastrojejunocolic fistula. It represents an important late diagnostic clue to a potentially life-threatening GI disorder because complete obstruction of any part of the bowel, if untreated, can cause death within hours from vascular collapse and shock.
Avatar f tn I am 29 year old male. I have a problem of frequent bloating. I spend lot of time to clear my bowel. I don't feel constipated but I feel as if gas is causing obstruction. When gas is out the motion is good and in sometime it stops and I need to wait for another pocket of gas to be out. This way I need to spend a lot of time to clear my bowel. In some days when am unable to clear my bowel completely i feel bloated and uncomfortable with flatulence.
Avatar f tn That being said, a CAT scan should have picked up a bowel obstruction. I would agree that you need to see a specialist, and I would move in that direction as soon as possible. Keep us informed.
Avatar f tn However, I did some violent vomiting with the bowel obstruction. Intestinal matter has no place to go but back up when the bowel is obstructed/twisted, enough said about that, but in my case it destroyed the LES valve that is supposed to keep stomach/intestinal matter where it belongs. I had to have a surgery called a Nissen Fundoplication that successfully kept acid from backing back into my throat and caused me to vomit.
Avatar f tn My 9 yr old lab had been vomiting since a long time but nothing could be detected. Then a vet performed a few surgeries of intestinal obstruction and then peritonitis on him lately. He was on antibiotics for 9 days. It has been 2 days since he is off antibiotics now. He had to be given general anesthesia thrice and local anesthesia twice. All this might have taken a toll on him too. But after the surgery he is still not eating and throws up blackish-brown clear stinking vomit every night.
Avatar n tn George did well the first two days and then began vomiting bile. He was unable to eat, pass stool or keep anything down. We returned to the vet in which he was admitted for dehydration, and to rule out pancreatitis, peritonitis, or acute renal failure. After three days of IV fluids, amoxicillin and reglan, George was discharged with all normal lab values. He has again thrown up and started refusing to eat-but will drink lots of water.

Avatar n tn Hello and hope you are doing well. Since its two weeks post surgery, it's unlikely that vomiting is related to anesthesia. The green colored vomit could be due to stasis of bile. It could be due to gallbladder disease or pancreatitis. Other possible causes of include bowel obstruction, inflammation of the stomach and small intestines from an unrelated source as well as an unrelated intestinal infection.
Avatar n tn If the cramps are localized to the stomach or abdomen area only then it can be due to stomach flu or food poisoning. You may start to have either vomiting or diarrhea soon. It could also be due to ovarian cysts getting twisted. Another possibility is intestinal obstruction. It can also be cramping prior to periods which is a part of premenstrual tension. Urinary tract infection, urinary bladder infection, gas in gut, severe acidity, Crohn’s, IBS, food allergies etc all cause cramps.
Avatar f tn Abdominal adhesions can kink, twist, or pull the intestines out of place, causing an intestinal obstruction. An intestinal obstruction partially or completely restricts the movement of food or stool through the intestines. A complete intestinal obstruction is life threatening and requires immediate medical attention and often surgery. If the condition is caused by a vascular abnormality, it would likely be constriction of blood vessels and reduced blood flow to the digestive system.
Avatar n tn If stones grow to sufficient size before passage—on the order of at least 2-3 millimeters—they can cause obstruction of the ureter. The resulting obstruction with dilation or stretching of the upper ureter and renal pelvis as well as spasm of muscle, trying to move the stone, can cause severe episodic pain, most commonly felt in the flank, lower abdomen and groin (a condition called renal colic).
Avatar f tn s a really nasty liquid you have to drink and they take x-rays of your abdomen every 30 minutes or so to see where it is in your intestinal tract until you eventually pass it on. The length of it could be quick (if there is no obstruction) or could be quite longer (if there is an intestinal issue). I'd say you should try this first.
Avatar f tn I am a 40 year old woman with quite the medical history. In the past 4 years I've had 15 abdominal surgeries, mostly on my left side. I've had a hysterectomy, left ovary with cyst removed, 8 ureter stents, ureter reconstruction, left kidney removed and a bladder sling installed. In amongst those, I've also had 3 partial bowel obstructions and a lysis of adhesions. I feel as if I have another bowel obstruction and have been fairly sick lately.
Avatar n tn Starting on February 13th of this year, I have had attacks of diarrhea and nausea (including vomiting) on almost a clockwork basis every two months. The attacks occurred on February 13, April 15, June 17, and August 19. When I saw my regular doctor at the end of June he was puzzled and referred me to a surgeon for an endoscopy and a colonoscopy.
Avatar f tn Hello, The symptoms that you are having can be due to gastritis or subacute intestinal obstruction. Eat small nutritious meals at frequent intervals instead of a heavy single meal. Exercise frequently and take your dinner atleast 2 hrs prior to bedtime. Also raise the head end of the bed by 2 blocks.Eat more of fibres and drink plenty of liquids. For now, pls take some antacid like Maalox and Mylanta or OTC medications like zantac or prilosec.
Avatar f tn He is a very cute little guy and I love those big ears. I hate to see that he is sick. How long have you had him? Days, weeks, months? If I had to use my best guess here I'd say 1)Diabetes- I know he drinks constantly, does he pee constantly too?, These are 2 symptoms of diabetes along with Lethargy. Vomiting isn't included in the diabetes symptoms but the disease could be affecting your dog causing it to puke. 2)Obstruction.
Avatar f tn Monitor her diet, log in what she eats and see if there is co-relation between what she eats and her symptoms. At times adhesions formed post surgery cause sub acute intestinal obstruction and this could also be a serious cause. Electrolyte imbalance is another possibility. Take care!
771025 tn?1286576152 ” “Surgery is currently the only way to break adhesions that cause pain, intestinal obstruction, or fertility problems. More surgery, however, carries the risk of additional adhesions and is avoided when possible.” REFER: http://digestive.niddk.nih.gov/ddiseases/pubs/intestinaladhesions/ Please discuss this with your doctor. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar m tn Dear Spidersilk, Sir, in addition to the other poster's suggestions, your grandson could have a variety of some rather serious gastro problems, the list is as long as my arm, which constant abdominal pain in the young is ALWAYS to be taken seriously, as you have, but the mother has not.
Avatar n tn Out of curiosity why have you allowed this vomiting to go on for 6-9 months. If this were my cat, and my cat was vomiting after each meal, you better believe I would have visited my vet a long time ago. Purina at best is not a good quality food. She probably has lost weight but you just don't see it. I would suggest making an appointment and getting her to your vet as soon as possible. Vomiting after a meal for such a long time is not good.
