vomiting

Avatar m tn t usually kill within 24 hours. The puppies or dogs present with vomiting and diarrhea (usually bloody) that has a gawdawful odor to it, and until it gets to this point there is usually at least a few days of not eating and general lethargy. What breed of dog was this? How old? The fact that she stopped eating for a day and was dead later that night makes me suspect bloat, or gastric dilatation/volvulus.
Avatar m tn Hello, i hope that when you took the dog in to see a vet they checked his temp. first. Bloody diarrhea can be caused by other things. First it could be worms, or he ate something that is poisoning. I f a doc did the x rays he should have done barium series it will tell were and if the dog ate something bc it will show in the insistent. Other thing is "PARVO" if your dog dint get a booster this year i would be concern and ask your doctor.
Avatar n tn You are right to be worried - very worried. The amount of bloody diarrhea you describe indicates a possible perforated intestine from chicken bone remnants. That's the biggest danger of giving dogs anything but very large, hard bones from cattle. (Had to add that for anyone else reading here.) Have you actually called your vet? Most clinics have an outgoing message instructing you what to do in an emergency. This IS an emergency.
Avatar n tn also could have got into some poison. Think about what you fed him, or what hes been around. got ahold of any medications, plants, toxic people foods..

Avatar m tn Vomiting on an empty stomach and certainly bloody stool is a very BAD sign. Your dog is very young and cannot take much of this before death becomes a distinct possibility. Call your regular vet clinic now. They should have an outgoing message directing you to an ER clinic. I'm serious. This really is an emergency and can't wait.
Avatar n tn Hi! My 14.5 yo dog also has bloody diarrhea last wk. Initial 1-2 days during his medication, his poo was also yellowish but it turns normal after that. Maybe u can give your dog one OM-X probiotic (black colour oval capsule) and C-Lium fiber capsule daily. But one mth diarrhea is rather long, is it Irritable Bowel Diease (IBD)?
Avatar f tn The rest were liquid, one was red in color but then clear after that. Then in the middle of the night had bloody diarrhea. She is back at the vet. Any questions I should ask them? Any diagnostics I should make them run? Any ideas? bacteria, protozoa, HGE, cancer, bad food. Thank You!
Avatar f tn It started as just diarrhea and his food was changed. Diarrhea continued and he was started on probiotics. Same thing only now he has bloody diarrhea with a really foul smell. Could this be C-Diff from the the medication? What would the treatment require? Thank you for any help you can give me.
Avatar m tn The disease makes it impossible for the dog to absorb liquids and nutrients and as a result, the dog will suffer from diarrhea and may also experience lethargy and vomiting. There is a loss of appetite. Most dogs stop eating and have particularly foul smelling and bloody, liquid stool. In its early stages, dogs with parvo often have a high fever, loss of appetite, and depression.
Avatar n tn First, and very important question: Has he had his innoculations (that means the current annual boosters?) -on time? And did they contain the vaccine for Parvo Virus? If so, I don't think it can be Parvo. But if he has lapsed with his boosters, there is a strong chance it might be. Parvo needs urgent treatment. It can be a deadly virus for dogs. If you know he hasn't had his innoculations, then please take him right now, to a vet, or emergency vet.

Avatar f tn In a young dog like this when I hear "bloody diarrhea", my first thought is parvovirus. I know that you said he's up to date on his vaccinations but there is always an outside chance that a dog can still contract the disease even if they have been vaccinated. Did your vet test him for parvo? Bloody bowel movements along with vomiting can also signify an intussusception.
508440 tn?1295060315 She advised me to feed him chicken and rice and watch for further signs. Now, he has one episode of BLOODY diarrhea, and my vet has gone home for the day, so I called the 24 hr vet that she recommended (Not the one I saw the other night) and I was told to continue to watch him for signs of dehydration/lethargy. My dog seems to be acting fine, but shouldn't I be concerned about the bloody vomit/diarrhea? Has anyone else dealth with this?
1456473 tn?1365827455 we had her at a house where a 4 year old pom and 7 month old jack russell mix had vomiting and diarrhea for a few days but they both got better. she began being sick four days ago and she lost her appetite for a day or two and had mucousy diarrhea, then we thought she was better yesterday as she was bouncing like her normal self, eating and drinking fluids and passing normal stools but today she has had 2 bloody mucous bouts of diarrhea.
Avatar f tn You can try a bland diet like small amounts of boiled chicken and rice and gradually wean in his normal dog food as the diarrhea resolves. If it continues for more than a few days, or if he becomes lethargic or the diarrhea becomes bloody, seek a vet immediately!
Avatar m tn My friend's dog started vomiting this morning, and has bloody diarrhea. It's 4:27 p.m. and she has already gone to the bathroom at least ten times. I have seen dogs go through parvo, but this one had none of the other symptom, like loss of appetite or severe weakness and depression. The only other thing is the dog seems to act a little tired, but no more than a normal dog (dog is normally hyperactive). What is this? Is she gonna die?
Avatar f tn we were outside til pretty late on a Saturday night,Sunday she had blackish kind of wet and sticky diarrhea which I thought was due to a different dog food, later it only became worse and one explosive along with some vomiting. she still drank water but I didn't offer her food because of her upset tummy. On Monday I called her veterinarian and was told if she is keeping hydrated she should be ok but scheduled an appointment for the next morning.
Avatar f tn Hopefully your dog will be able to keep the immodium down long enough to help clear the diarrhea..but again, if your dog is still vomiting and continues to have diarrhea, and you see no improvement by tomorrow, I suggest that you call your vet back, and get your dog re-evaluated. Please let us know how she is doing...
Avatar n tn You have given us minimal information, but even with more info, when a dog is this ill, the only solution is a visit to the vet for a proper diagnosis. Do not delay. Vomiting and diarrhea in a toy dog can lead to dehydration VERY quickly, so please call ASAP and get her in there.
Avatar n tn Our miniature dachshund just had pups on may 14 and has developed bloody diarrhea. Is this normal or could it be parvo?
