Avatar f tn In December the dog had an episode of vomiting up bright red blood and then vomiting up a darker substance. Parents took dog to vet. Vet thought the dog ate some deer poo or something similar and gave the dog an anti-vomiting type medication. Dog was okay for about a week maybe. Then started throwing up blood again. They took him back to vet. Vet recommended having a light run down into his gastrointestinal tract to check for stomach tumors. Dog had procedure done in late December.

Avatar n tn Sometimes the act of vomiting can cause bleeding in the stomach and subsequent vomiting will have blood in it.It is ok to give her zantac 75 and feed small meals but if she vomits again or act depressed she should be seen right away.
Avatar m tn This could be something more serious, of course. Any chance your dog may have ingested something in the house or outside? Is the dog eating, drinking, any vomiting or diarrhea, eating and drinking? If this continues and especially if the dog shows any other signs, a trip to your Vet is warranted.
Avatar f tn Missy dog vomits when she eats or drinks. She can only keep down white rice and small amounts of water at a time. Her stool is normal and stomach isn't hard. I am concerned at she can't continue to just eat rice. I tried boiling hamburer and putting a little in the rice but she vomited that too.
Avatar m tn I am sorry about your dog. Vomiting can be caused by a great number or problems including: parasites, gastritis, toxins, infectious agents, foreign body ingestion, kidney or liver disease, cancers and more. Not eating for two weeks is very serious. It would be great if your vet's were able to perform blood tests and X-Rays because once there is a diagnosis proper treatment can be instituted. If diagnostics cannot be performed than symptomatic treatment is the next best option.
Avatar f tn He acted normally--drank water, ate food, ran around playing and did everything he normally does except for the vomiting. He had had no change in foods, but he is the type of dog that eats nails, paper clips, tacks, necklaces, plastic, and anything he isn't supposed to that he can get his paws on. Since I have 2 children I never know what they might drop or leave lying around, and; therefore, I am often pulling things out of my dog's mouth.

Avatar n tn Here's some info I found on Rimadyl toxicity. Since your dog threw up so quickly, I would say he'll probably be OK. ******************************* Rimadyl® toxicity generally occurs as the result of one of the following: Accidental ingestion of excessive quantities of the drug Administration of the incorrect dose of medication by the owner (overdose) Idiosyncratic reaction – the pet is unusually susceptible to the side effects of the drug and the reaction is unrelated to dose.
Avatar f tn Generally speaking a dog should NOT throw up any amount of blood. (It CAN happen sometimes if there has been a lot of retching and straining, then the esophagus and throat can be made slightly sore, but this usually clears up after the vomiting is over.) But in your dog's case, it doesn't sound as if that caused it.
6066006 tn?1378860432 Our male 7 and half years old shepherd mix stared with vomiting problem about 2 weeks ago, and we had bring him over to his family vet. The vet ran a blood work (Diagnostic Health Profile, Lytes&PCV) and took two x-ray images (front and side). Since nothing showed up abnormal, we decided to try some anti-vomit medication first. So she sent us home with Sucralfate and Pepcid AC to try first.
Avatar f tn Thought I would share this valuable information. This week I had the first case in history of raisin toxicity ever seen at MedVet. My patient was a 56-pound, 5 yr old male neutered lab mix that ate half a canister of raisins sometime between 7:30 AM and 4:30PM on Tuesday. He started with vomiting, diarrhea and shaking about 1AM on Wednesday but the owner didn't call my emergency service until 7AM.
