Common Questions and Answers about Vomiting children

vomiting

Avatar f tn For your son's weight and height he is normal for his age which is good. At this age children do become 'picky' eaters. Children learn by example. If they see you eat healthy, they will eventually eat healthier. For example if the rest of the family eats salads, vegetables, and fruit and he see it every day, eventually he may try some. There is hope in the future. Mealtimes can be a battlefield when children do not have an interest to eating healthy or eat very little.

Avatar n tn My child was wetting the bed, extremely thirsty all the time and was vomiting; his vomiting, we think, was contributed to a stomach virus he had at the time. We took him to the ER due to dehydration -they did a blood chemistry and his blood sugar was 399-they immediately admitted him to ICU and he was put on IV insulin. He's been a diabetic now for 3 years-he's now 9. He's has handled it amazingly well!

Avatar n tn t sound as lactose intolerance. Viral diarrhea (Rotavirus) is common in children younger than 5 years, and some immunity develops after that, so it would be unusual to have 4 consecutive bouts of diarrhea from the virus. Avatar n tn Is it getting him attention I would imagine it is , so it may be a good idea to ignore the habit, sometimes children do things to get attention, so focus on his positive side not the negative, praise him when you see him doing something right. You have seen the doctor who has checked him out , next time he seems like he is going to throw up, walk away and do not feed into the issue once it doesn't get attention it may go away ...
Avatar n tn My 20 month old grandson has had vomiting for almost a week. He has had a history of reflux, but this past week he has had some projectile vomiting, no fever, and just can't keep anything down. What should we do? No fever, his pedi thinks it's a virus and lasts 7 to 10 days.
Avatar f tn I think if they get themselves worked up enough they can ,have you asked his teacher how he gets on there, are there any problems with other children ,he may also have learned if he throws up he will get to go home, maybe ask teacher to start to keep him there. It may also be a good idea as he is throwing up a lot to take him for a check up at the doctor's .
Avatar f tn As all the blood tests have not revealed any diagnosis,I feel it can be a case of cyclic vomiting syndrome(CVS). CVS is an uncommon, unexplained disorder of children and some adults characterized by recurrent, prolonged attacks of sever nausea, vomiting and prostration with no apparent cause. Vomiting occurs at frequent intervals (5-10 times an hour at the peak) for hours to 10 days (1-4 most commonly). CVS has been difficult to diagnose.

Avatar f tn I have a 20 month old daughter that has been vomiting (sometimes up to 4 times a day) from birth and because she was always gaining weight, nothing was ever done until i took her to see a paediatrician. He ran blood tests, stool samples, and a Barium(?) swallow test, but they all came back fine. They're leaning towards a lactose intolerence so my daughter has been on a very stricked no milk (or anything containing milk) diet but still seems to be vomiting.

Like I said this happened only 2 weeks ago and he has absolutely no recollection of being sick ( he is very afraid of vomiting and is almost traumatized by it), no recollection of watching movies in his bed on the portable DVD player, nothing. Should I be worried about this?
Avatar f tn Since then she is still vomiting almost everyday, her stools have become almost black and she complains of pain on the lower right side (scale 1 to 5 she says its about a 4) She says it is very painful to urinate or pass gas. The surgeon ordered a CT scan fearing that she had a blocked bowel, but instead it came back showing that she had clumps of cysts on her ovaries and an enlarged liver. We are contacting her ob/gyn tomorrow to get her in for an appointment ASAP.
Avatar n tn There is another condition, cyclic vomiting, which is sometimes considered in children whose vomiting has gone on for a significant period of time with no other diagnostic explanation. This unusual condition has no known cause, and no clear treatment. It can be seen in adults but is most common in kids aged three to seven years old. It is probably more common than some may think, occurring in one out of fifty children with prolonged vomiting, and the symptoms can be quite profound.
