Avatar f tn about 3 months ago, my hemoglobin was about 14. when i got my blood checked about a month ago, it was already down to 9.9. my doctor decided to put me on iron pills for a month and see if that helps. is it bad for it to drop that fast?
1927233 tn?1326670387 Normally in iron deficiency, iron is low, TIBC is high, percent saturation is low and ferritin is low. Elevated Total Iron Binding Capacity will automatically result in low free iron in the blood. Hence if with elevated TIBC, iron too is high, it could be due to iron supplements you took. High iron can also be due to hemolytic anemia, liver problems, and multiple blood transfusions. Please discuss these possibilities with your treating doctor. Take care!
1660478 tn?1302571605 the last dr. visit i had i found out my red blood cell count was low. my blood count was a 9. i have to go back in 3 weeks. is this real low? has any one eles had to deal with this?
Avatar f tn s, myeloma, and other blood cancers), aplastic anemia and myelodysplastic syndromes (bone marrow disorders), cirrhosis of liver, lead poisoning, and in vitamin deficiency. Low hemoglobin can also be due to increased destruction of blood or its components as seen in spleen disorders, sickle cell anemia, thalssemia etc.
Avatar f tn Definitely: Anemia (low hemoglobin), birth defects in offspring. Possible: itching, rash, insomnia, shortness of breath (due to low hgb), cough. possible but less likely: increased uric acid (gout) In combo with Peg: Possible GI SX of nausea, vomiting, less appetite & diarrhea. I had rash, low hgb, shortness of breath when hgb really low and the darned cough.
Avatar f tn 5, intact PTH is 54. Can this be hyperparathyroidism? Cancer? The low hemoglobin is concerning to me. I am having blood retested next week.
Avatar m tn 8 (27-32) TSH was normal, and so went back for another CBC on the 29th and WBC dropped to 2.5 RBC 3.86 Hemoglobin 9.9 and the others were low and platelets were 137 (140-450) My Ferritin was 3 (10-154) folate was in normal B12 was normal. Iron and TIBC were all in normal range. Did another CBC on 12/2 and WBC 2.6 RBC went into normal range 4.02 and everything else stayed low. Platelets did rise to 145. Any ideas. Have had a headache for days that no meds will help.
Avatar n tn I also have the opposite low hemoglobin. Last year I even had to have blood transfusions. I noticed that you are new so I don't know where you live or much history. If you live somewhere with high altitude it can cause it. Dehydration can cause it to be high also and so can smoking. I don't know if any of those apply to you so I will advise the same as terry and go for the search engines or ask your doctor. Sorry I couldn't be more help.
Avatar f tn The symptoms you are describing such as low blood pressure, low red blood cell count, and low hemoglobin levels, as well as low body temperature, can be the result of iron deficiency anemia, which is a condition where the body does not have enough iron to produce enough healthy red blood cells. The red blood cells carry oxygen throughout the body and iron is essential for the production of hemoglobin which is the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen.
1927233 tn?1326670387 Your iron labs are very unusual and don't match any pattern listed on medical websites but reading a comments board Healing Well - "Low Ferritin, High Iron? Contradiction. Also High Hemoglobin. Anyone know what this might point to?" a couple of board members showed high iron with low ferritin labs; one with a diagnosis of bartonella (bacterial infection) and another with viral infections EBV (epstein barr virus), CMV (cytomegalovirus) and HHV6 & 7 (Human herpesvirus 6 and 7).

390388 tn?1279636213 Hello, Normal range of hemoglobin in males is 14-17g/dl and 12-16 g/dl in females. A low hemoglobin level indicates a low blood red cell count or anemia. Anemia can be due to vitamin or iron deficiencies, acute or chronic bleeding, thyroid diseases, kidney failure or crohn’s disease. In women, it can be due to menstruation. It can also be due to hookworm infestation. Treatment depends on the underlying cause. Get your complete blood count and peripheral smear and stool examination.
Avatar f tn I'm a 25 year old women who was recently hospitalized for extremely low blood count, my hemoglobin was only 3.9 when I entered the ER. I received 4pints of blood. my DR say that I don't have cancer, leukemia, or any internal bleeding. they are continuing to run test and monitor my blood work but as of now I'm still not producing my own blood. What could cause this?
Avatar n tn It would be helpful if you give the normal ranges; labs ranges vary from lab to lab alot.
Avatar n tn MCH is determined by the percentage of red cells and the amount of hemoglobin present in blood. An MCH blood test is carried out to determine hemoglobin in the red corpuscles to diagnose anemia. MCH is calculated and expressed as picograms or pg per cell. The MCH blood test normal range is 27.5 to 33.5 pg. In an MCH blood test, low levels indicate iron deficiency or anaemia.
Avatar m tn Two days ago I had a cbc done and its still the same. Low rbc, hemoglobin and hematocrit but everything else seems to be within limits, even my iron level was 67. Still very confused and tired of being tired.
