Avatar f tn t think a low protein diet will help delay/prevent the kidney disease from progressing and we can switch him to lower protein later if necessary. I wonder if low sodium will help? I have been through kidney disease with one of my fur baby cats and wonder what new treatments are out there now? I'm so worried about the pancreatic node and wonder if this could be the start of cancer.
Avatar f tn My jack russell terrier was in acute kidney failure last month and is now in chronic. Her blood work, off the charts in some areas, has normalised but her urine showed high protein and she has high blood pressure; she is taking enalapril for both of these. She is on Hills KD and has shown improvement in weight gain, appetite, zest for life, her coat looks fantastic. But I can't seem to control her vomiting for more than a few days.
793908 tn?1294705109 It also lists supplements and pretty much everything there is about kidney disease in dogs, and lists excellent commercial diets suitable for kidney disease. I hope this helps! http://www.dogaware.com/kidney.
414347 tn?1294807038 I am not sure if there is but I suffered from a bad vertigo attack in July 07 had ER visits and all kinds of test that were normal and then in Nov 07 started with upset stomach and vomiting and just had my gallbladder out in Jan 08 (no stones). No one has told me that they are related but I wonder?
603946 tn?1333941839 30 at night and I just got up to clean him up, another huge vomiting spell. Should I see if he got parvo? I've heard it's a live vaccine and the pets can get the disease if their immune system is down. I've read parvo can be treated. Aren't the signs also vomiting and lethargy? It's just so weird he was fine then takes the vaccine/next day is deathly ill. Any thoughts?
Avatar m tn s over 7 yrs old-diabetes, kidney disease, and thyroid disease. All 3 of these conditions will also cause weight loss. Kidney disease will cause vomiting. Both thyroid(over active thyroid) and diabetes will cause an excessive appetite. If you decide to take your cat to the vet, please request blood work and a urinalysis to check for these conditions. If you decide to check for diabetes, you should with-hold food from her for 10 hrs before you take her.
20820864 tn?1522931153 Fred is our 6 year old Maltese, diagnosed with kidney disease about 5 months ago. He went blind at age 4 due to SARDS, diagnosed with Cushing's disease at age 5 and now kidney disease and a heart murmur. He's had 2 hospital stays due to dehydration and we now give him SubQ fluids every day. He has gotten a lot pickier about what he'll eat and now he will only eat certain dog treats.
Avatar f tn National Kidney Foundation guidelines recommend you start dialysis when your kidney function drops to 15% or less—or if severe symptoms caused by kidney disease, such as: shortness of breath, fatigue, muscle cramps, nausea or vomiting is already present. Gradual loss of kidney function is called chronic kidney disease (CKD). People with CKD may go on to permanent kidney failure. Take care and regards.
20820562 tn?1524877846 She was constipated and vomiting. The vet took blood work that showed she had pancreatitis and kidney disease. Her BUN was 76 and creatinine 5.6. Her pancreatic function numbers were (Am) 2148 and (LP) 2792. She was on IV fluids overnight and her numbers barely changed for her kidneys but her pancreas function numbers were (Am) 441 and (LP)550.
Avatar f tn At this point, he is eating well, not vomiting, urinating okay (definitely less than normal), and eating up all of the love and attention we are giving him. He does seem to have trouble getting in a comfortable position (his belly is so big; he's gained 10 pounds in fluid in the past week) and he has started to seek rest in places he has never slept in before.

Avatar m tn Oh, so sorry to read this. Search these forums for kidney disease and diet, may help. I still don't understand giving Ipecac. Can you give Oepcid?
Avatar m tn Commonest cause of chronic nausea/vomiting is acidity. Take omeprazole (empty stomach in morning) and antacid gel and see if it helps. Liver and kidney dysfunction is another cause. Hence kidney and liver function tests should be done. Other causes are diabetes and hypothyroidism. Electrolyte imbalance too can cause nausea/vomiting. IBS, gluten or lactose intolerance, parasites in gut too can be the cause. A stool test should be done for worms, giardiasis etc.
Avatar f tn So far he is not vomiting but has loss of interest in food and it is a real challenge to get him to eat anything. He sleeps most of the time. My vet has me giving him B12 shots every 3 days. Other than suggesting a low protein diet and Standard Process renal support he hasn't offered me anymore suggestions. This dog has always been a picky eater. He likes shrimp and I've had a problem in the past keeping him out of the cat's food but he doesn't even really go for that now.
362203 tn?1248810310 This may be a case of pyelonephritis. This may present with fever , back pain and vomiting. This needs close evaluation and supervision as well as intensive round of intravenous antibiotics. Is your friend out of the ICU? At this point, if her kidney infection is not caused by any underlying structural abnormalities then completing her course of medications may suffice.

Avatar f tn I took my dog Sadie in to the vet a week ago(9/21). The night before I took her in she was limping and refusing to use her right hind leg. Which progressed in to her not using both back legs and then not walking (within 12 hours). They performed a snap test which came back positive. They evaluated her and said it's highly likely it was ehrlichia because of her blood work and she also had ocular hemorrhaging (mainly in her iris's). Her platelets and RBC were low at the time.
Avatar f tn But the vet did not mention that to me when he started vomiting last month. She said it was due to hepatobilliary disease, which i think is liver and gallbladder disease. They started puting him on antibiotics called co-amoxiclav for about 2 weeks. He started feeling better, came from from the vet and stopped vomiting. Although he was still being forced fed using a syringe. After about 3 days, he started to vomit again and pooped gelo with blood.
Avatar f tn Three times now I have had middle right side back pain followed by severe stomach pain and vomiting. I went to the er the first time and they gave me stuff to stop the vomiting and something for pain and they said I might have kidney stones but never found anything. The next times I just suffered through the pain which usually last about 6 to 7 hours and it is unbearable, like being in labor. I will be fine for a few months and then it will happen again. Please help.
Avatar f tn Uses litter box, but still urinating frequently and drinks fair amount of water. Is there a way to tell if she has kidney disease/failure and not pyelonephritis without doing an ultrasound?
1346101 tn?1288051949 It can be seen in association with diseases like diabetes, hepatitis, gall bladder disease, pancreatitis, kidney stone or failure. Vomiting can occur as a side effect from various drugs like painkillers both steroids and non steroidal medicines like ibuprofen, antibiotics and bowel obstruction. You have this for 2 years now causing significant weight loss so it needs immediate attention as it could be a chronic infection or pointing towards a bigger diagnosis.
501944 tn?1224056021 I have had Crohn's disease for about 3 years and I am having problems with vomiting and I don't know what to do!! If you have any advice please help, I feel lost! I have some problems swallowing and I frequently feel like there is something in my throat ready to come up. I was vomiting almost every night for about two weeks I then felt a little better and it only occurred every couple of days. Well right now I can't hold anything down. I'm afraid to eat, but I am hungry.
Avatar m tn the digestion after a meal climax, dilatation of the stomach and vomiting caused by excessive gastric acid discharge; and the loss of renal tubule when alkali. Uric acid is a common cause of acid: the general reason for the urine are acidic; strenuous exercise, sweating after the protein decomposition in vivo when strong (hunger); pathological causes, such as nephritis, diabetes, acidosis, etc..
Avatar n tn I think that it is necessary to follow up with your vet and make sure that he has no obstruction or mass in his abdomen causing the vomiting, or something metabolic such as kidney disease, liver disease, etc. Additionally, some eye problems and blindness can be caused by systemic diseases. Your vet may not have all bad news for you.
