Avatar n tn I had *awful* irritable bowel syndrome throughout chemo. Luckily (?), when I also had it during radiation, a nutritionist met with me. She recommended a supplement called "Acidopholis." It's the bacteria in the intestines which we all need to digest food, but chemo and radiation kill it. I used it faithfully and saw a radical improvement in my IBS. No more constipation/diarrhea. Wish I'd been told about it during chemo! (I take one called Multidopholis Plus.
Avatar m tn But for many years I had suffered from gastro problems which i and to some degree also the docs thought it all comes from the HCV infection, now I see that these problems still remain so i went onto a doc who is speciallist in this area and he told me that eventhough it is not exactlly IBS (Irritable bowel syndrome) I should treat it as it is IBS. Also I would like to add that I have had my GB removed about 8 years ago because of GB stones.

Avatar f tn Hello, What you are suffering from could be post cholescystectomy syndrome. In this, there’s persistent pain and associated nausea/vomiting. This occurs primarily due to either the adhesions which are formed in the area of the surgery or due to the dysfunction of the sphincter of oddi. Since the reservoir of the bile i.e. gall bladder has been surgically removed, it results in a continuous flow of the bile into the intestine resulting in gastritis & esophagitis.

This is diagnosed by exclusion of other irritable bowel diseases such as Crohn’s disease, celiac and ulcerative colitis. IBS also causes slowing of the gut. Other than this, since there is vomiting, you could also be having a bad gastric reflux. Other causes of slowing of gut are diabetes and hypothyroidism. Avatar m tn Hello, The various possibilities which present with such pain in the lower left abdomen are Crohn’s disease, bowel obstruction, ovarian cysts and pelvic inflammatory disease, irritable bowel syndrome , kidney obstruction or pyelonephritis, psoas abscess and volvolus (twisting of the sigmoid part of the large bowel on itself). Investigations like ultrasound abdomen, CT abdomen and colonoscopy are required to confirm a diagnosis. your sister should get these investigations done.
Avatar n tn I had my gall bladder removed two years ago due to gallstones and the same doctor suggested I had Irritable Bowel Syndrome but the vomiting contradicts that diagnosis. I had an upper GI done a year ago and besides some minor irritation it was normal.
