Common Questions and Answers about Vomiting and bloody diarrhea in dogs

vomiting

Avatar m tn t usually kill within 24 hours. The puppies or dogs present with vomiting and diarrhea (usually bloody) that has a gawdawful odor to it, and until it gets to this point there is usually at least a few days of not eating and general lethargy. What breed of dog was this? How old? The fact that she stopped eating for a day and was dead later that night makes me suspect bloat, or gastric dilatation/volvulus.
Avatar f tn My year and a half yr old poodle had a bout of diarrhea and vomiting yesterday. I rushed her to the emergency vetvand had blood testing done.this was last night. Right when I got home from the vet she was running around playong. Vet said it was nothing serious. But today without eating house food that upset her stomach she still had some diarrhea. Is this something to worry about or maybe some diarrhea still left over from last night? She is lively and running around.
Avatar m tn Any further food or excess gulping of water will continue to irritate his stomach Bottom line here--go back to the vet and have him give you a definitive diagnosis. Vomiting and bloody diarrhea ha is a SYMPTON of a medical disorder. You need to find out what that disorder is in order to stop this . Bobo has something going on with him --that is why he took longer to recover from a simple viral infection. Good Luck , Please update us, K?

Avatar f tn The rest were liquid, one was red in color but then clear after that. Then in the middle of the night had bloody diarrhea. She is back at the vet. Any questions I should ask them? Any diagnostics I should make them run? Any ideas? bacteria, protozoa, HGE, cancer, bad food. Thank You!
Avatar m tn There is a loss of appetite. Most dogs stop eating and have particularly foul smelling and bloody, liquid stool. In its early stages, dogs with parvo often have a high fever, loss of appetite, and depression. The other symptoms, such as diarrhea and vomiting, occur as a result of the severe distress on the gastrointestinal system. Shock, dehydration, and death are the next stage.
Avatar n tn Now it has become to 2 times an hour of diarreha that is very watery explosive bloody each time. The vet is closed and the weather is horrible here with ice and snow everywhere with no way safely to get out any ideas on what we can do for our dog would be much appreciated I have given him pepto bismoth but that has not helped any at all. Avatar n tn This is based on my experience on one of my dogs who always used to have soft poos/diarrhea/bloody diarrhea. This is always wat e vet adovate me here. C-Lium Fiber can be given for life after his condition has stabilised. Maybe u can ask ur vet abt this OM-X probiotic (to replace bad & good bacterias tat are killed by e antibiotic) & C-Lium fiber (can get from pharmacy) to harden e poo. Depends on ur dog, it takes 1-3 days to harden e poo.

495284 tn?1333894042 She is starving by the afternoon and then she eats. No diarrhea or vomiting, just tummy growling real loud and no appetite. Thank you.........
127124 tn?1326735435 Oh, I got the impression she just had a call in to the vet about her dog's diarrhea, and he was in surgery so he couldn't call her back. I hope her dog isn't in surgery! I might have gotten this all wrong!
1462810 tn?1327360449 Little eleven-year-old yorkie-poo-hauhau was fine last night. Since this morning she won't eat, drinks water then vomits it, has thin brown (not bloody) diarrhea, and is lethargic and breathing with quiet discomfort sounds. She comes to me like she wants to go out but then comes back in without doing anything. I need to go to sleep and tried putting her on her bed in a box (she made quite a mess on the carpet while I was out for 3-1/2 hours) but she wants to be on my bed.
Avatar f tn You can try a bland diet like small amounts of boiled chicken and rice and gradually wean in his normal dog food as the diarrhea resolves. If it continues for more than a few days, or if he becomes lethargic or the diarrhea becomes bloody, seek a vet immediately!
Avatar m tn Blood in feces CAN occur for various reasons. My dog was once sick, lethargic and had bloody diarrhea from eating chocolate. She was fine after a day on plain water, then bland food for a couple of days. I was really scared by this symptom, but the vet (who was very good and competent) did not seem to think this was so bad, and said it can occur after any dietary indiscretion sometimes. But that of course doesn't mean you can afford to be easy-going about this.
Avatar f tn This morning when I got up to let her out she had pooped diarrhea in her pen and she just looked really sick. Now tonight she looks much worse and she pooped out nothing but nasty foul smelling blood and she is not eating or drinking. Her normal vet is closed til Monday can anyone help with some advice on what to do?
Avatar f tn Puppy food has a lot of protein and fat, the worst you could give to a dog with kidney failure. I feel so guilty that his last week was spent having diarrhea and vomiting . I feel like I exacerbated my dogs kidney failure. Before my dog was getting puppy food , he would sleep a lot but he would still love to go on walks. He would jump up and down for food . And his last week he couldn't even stand , he was so wobbly.
Avatar n tn She is now being doubled over w/pain in the lower abdomen, severe nausia, vomiting constantly, and bloody diarrhea. Over the past six weeks, she has been in the hospital 4 times - had 3 colonoscopy, upper GI, blood work, stomach biopsy, colon biospy. They determined that she has ischemic cholitis. The last colonoscopy said this condition was "healing nicely" but less than 1 week later she is back in the hospital - and worse than ever! She is weak, vomiting, diarrhea etc.
Avatar f tn From personal experience loss of mucus plug was the onset of labor. I would rather be safe than sorry, since you're 35 weeks and not days - it's not so early in your pregnancy that you just could not begin labor. I wouldn't rush to the hospital but I'd still be cautious.
Avatar f tn My dog once got into some chocolate, was very ill, with bloody diarrhea. I was quite scared to see the blood there, but I took her to the vet, and he said that blood in the stool was very common after eating chocolate, or anything irritant or toxic like that. My dog was OK, but she had to be fasted a day, and then only given small amounts of very bland food such as boiled fish and rice, or chicken and rice. Can you be certain your dog hasn't eaten something possibly toxic like chocolate?..
