Avatar f tn Damage to organs from the dehydration caused by constant vomiting is what normally ends up doing them in, so as long as this is controlled and fluids are administered to prevent dehydration, the inflammation usually subsides a couple of days into the treatment and things begin to improve. Did the vet give you any kind of clue as to what type of bacteria is causing the enteritis?
Avatar f tn The rest were liquid, one was red in color but then clear after that. Then in the middle of the night had bloody diarrhea. She is back at the vet. Any questions I should ask them? Any diagnostics I should make them run? Any ideas? bacteria, protozoa, HGE, cancer, bad food. Thank You!
1462810 tn?1327364049 Since this morning she won't eat, drinks water then vomits it, has thin brown (not bloody) diarrhea, and is lethargic and breathing with quiet discomfort sounds. She comes to me like she wants to go out but then comes back in without doing anything. I need to go to sleep and tried putting her on her bed in a box (she made quite a mess on the carpet while I was out for 3-1/2 hours) but she wants to be on my bed.
1916673 tn?1420236870 and above 5.0 = stage 4. Vets commonly see and diagnose dogs in stages 3 and 4, with stage 4 being the late stage of kidney failure. It is worth noting that dogs with genetically more muscle mass, particularly greyhounds and certain other working dogs and sight hounds, will have a normal creatinine level of about 1.6 compared with an upper-normal of about 1.0 in other breeds. My own rescued greyhound has a normal Creatinine of 1.7, for example.
Avatar n tn Went to bathroom at 11 am to have bm - which was normal, then EXPLOSIVE diarrhea, explosive vomiting - grabbed trash can just in time, profuse sweating - even hair (and its kinda long) was dripping. Fell to bathroom floor to get face on cool tiles. Finally crawled to hallway to turn on a/c and crawled back to bathroon and passed out - again Explosive diarrhea all over floor, walls, etc. Massive chest pains & difficulty breathing.
Avatar n tn I fear the vet will say what I don't want to hear, but may have to do. Bobo has taught and given me so much in his ~9.5 years, giving him a quality life and dignity in death are the very least I can return to him.
Avatar f tn Crassulaceae Causes vomiting and diarrhea. The bufodienolides are cardiotoxic. These are the same type of toxin as found in poisonous toads. Charming Dieffenbachia (Dieffenbachia amoena) Family: Araceae Causes intense burning and irritation of the mouth, lips and tongue, excessive drooling, difficulty swallowing, vomiting. Christmas Rose (Helleborus niger) Family: Fanunculaceae Causes vomiting, bloody diarrhea, abdominal pain, convulsions, delirium.
Avatar m tn Any further food or excess gulping of water will continue to irritate his stomach Bottom line here--go back to the vet and have him give you a definitive diagnosis. Vomiting and bloody diarrhea ha is a SYMPTON of a medical disorder. You need to find out what that disorder is in order to stop this . Bobo has something going on with him --that is why he took longer to recover from a simple viral infection. Good Luck , Please update us, K?
Avatar m tn Dogs and cats with urinary tract infections will usually urinate much more often than usual, and they may have fevers as well. In male dogs, blood in the urine may mean that the prostate gland, has become infected. Dogs with an infected prostate gland typically have a swollen penis and testicles. Pets that have gotten into harmful substances such as rat poison will sometimes have bloody urine. (Other signs of poisoning include vomiting, diarrhea, or restlessness.
960887 tn?1283485836 Izzy is a 4 yr old Chihuahua mix that came into our emergency clinic last weekend with bloody diarrhea and vomiting. Her owner had put 4 drops of Rescue Remedy, a homeopathic flower extract, into some water and Izzie drank all of it. The next day, she was lethargic, not eating, and started to have severe bloody diarrhea. She was so weak when she got to our clinic she could not stand up. Poor Izzie’s owner was racked with guilt.
172023 tn?1334675884 Jake is our 8 + year old Doberman. He's been vomiting off and on for at least 2 years now. At first it was relatively infrequent, and a trip to the vet discovered no reason for it...we were told he might just have a touchy stomach. Last year, the vomiting became much more frequent, about 3 or 4 times a week. Again, a trip to the vet, blood work, nothing bad discovered and he's otherwise very healthy and active. Not really any good advice except to try some antacids.
Avatar f tn She some times throws up a foamy mucus, some times its yellow and other times she has thick green snots in it, she has a phlemy kind of cough other times dry. She recently started throwing up her food, we tried changing it thinking its food allergies, she ate it fine but threw it up the morning after. She also has on and off diahrrea, really bad to the point its watery and also she pooped out bloody jello.
Avatar f tn The vomiting is so awful to watch in the end as it just goes on and on and on... There are many anti emetic meds to try. Has your vet not prescribed anything? Reglan (metoclopromadine) is a very cheap medication, unfortunately, it is also metabolized in the kidneys, so a too high dose results in toxic levels in the blood. My husband and I discovered that completely bypassing the GI tract by using reglan injections worked much better in the end.
Avatar m tn Blood in feces CAN occur for various reasons. My dog was once sick, lethargic and had bloody diarrhea from eating chocolate. She was fine after a day on plain water, then bland food for a couple of days. I was really scared by this symptom, but the vet (who was very good and competent) did not seem to think this was so bad, and said it can occur after any dietary indiscretion sometimes. But that of course doesn't mean you can afford to be easy-going about this.

Avatar f tn but sometimes straining to go to bathroom, belching and burping, white spots in stool and yesterday a little blood in the stool. At the time I met with the gastro doctor, was asked if I had blood in stool and I hadn't then. I spoke with someone in his office yesterday and told her about the blood and she said, oh that's not natural.......scared me to death as I had a friend who died of colon cancer six years ago...

Avatar f tn well, a few dogs do make it through. Mine did. If he HAS had his hots, then this could be a few different things. Bloody diarrhea, while never to be ignored (as there can sometimes be a serious cause) -can happen from eating something like chocolate, for instance, or even from the diarrhea itself. I asked my vet about this and he said it can happen quite commonly as with diarrhea, as frequent straining can cause some blood in the stools. But vomiting blood...
Avatar m tn Parvo doesn't usually kill within 24 hours. The puppies or dogs present with vomiting and diarrhea (usually bloody) that has a gawdawful odor to it, and until it gets to this point there is usually at least a few days of not eating and general lethargy. What breed of dog was this? How old? The fact that she stopped eating for a day and was dead later that night makes me suspect bloat, or gastric dilatation/volvulus.
Avatar f tn I am devastated. He didn't have diarrhea prior to the vet and he didn't have a temperature and wasn't vomiting prior to the water incident. Why did he die so quickly? And why didn't he repsong to treatment? I am not coping. He was a toy french poodle.
Avatar m tn Most dogs stop eating and have particularly foul smelling and bloody, liquid stool. In its early stages, dogs with parvo often have a high fever, loss of appetite, and depression. The other symptoms, such as diarrhea and vomiting, occur as a result of the severe distress on the gastrointestinal system. Shock, dehydration, and death are the next stage.
129422 tn?1222703189 This AM, won't eat, but no dry heaving or other symptoms. He has been in and out of vet's and hospital about 6 times in last 45 days. We are worn out. All blood work shows normal now and they have done very comprehensive blood work profiles. Vet is stumped. By time we got him home from last vet appt. 6 PM, he had stopped the dry heaving, and after giving him Pepcid 5 mg., he ate and held it down fine. We gave him no more pain meds, just Pepcid 5 mg. half hour before each meal.
184674 tn?1360864093 Ivomec is expensive and so are the vet visits, and I swear it's like this is becoming a huge money pit because every 1-3 months he has a breakout. And a severe breakout with hair loss and bloody, inflamed skin. I don't know what to do anymore. I don't know what I'm doing wrong. I'll be taking him to the vet again tomorrow, but I feel sick thinking about going through this again. I never expected this chronic health issue.
Avatar f tn She has lost 3 of 4 9-week old pups and the 4th is barely hanging on. All pups very healthy, started having vomiting and diarrhea. All her dogs are fully vaccinated but we're tested for Parvo which was negative. They under very good Vet care and her caring for them at home. They are at a complete loss as to the cause. She had just started a new puppy food, Merrick. No recalls on that either. They are just stumped.

544292 tn?1268886268 Hi and Welcome Tramadol Warriors, Please come on in and make yourself comfy. All are welcome.
1853313 tn?1322572820 It has changed my whole way of thinking and how I will rear my pets......None of my dogs have died in vain......They live on by teaching me what to do different the next time & how to give another dog a better chance at life by incorporating more knowledge in my decisions.... My house is full of Rescues, now....(All special needs that didn't have a chance in Hell of finding a home for one reason or other).....And a new Foster that I should have named "Nightmare", I kid you not!
Avatar n tn Mary Thanks for your support and kindness I'm in agreement with you in that your mother-in-law needs to know the truth. However, the liver has remarkable reserve (some people don't even show symptoms until it's 90% damaged), and I know of many who are still alive today who really should'nt be. I would imagine a transplant would be out of the question, unless she is rich and/or famous.
