The FDA just announced that dicoflenac gel (brand name Voltaren Gel) often prescribed for arthritis pain is linked to severe liver damage and it can happen within the first month of use According to the FDA, this topical gel has been reported to cause liver necrosis (death of liver cells), jaundice, and liver failure some cases of which have required liver transplant and some that have been fatal! Despite these horrible side effects, dicoflenac gel remains on the market.

Lately I have been putting Voltaren gel on my forehead. I'm doing this to soothe pain from inflammation caused by increased circulation from running a lot. Is this ok? I know it takes away pain, reduces inflammation, and increases blood circulation. Also I got the blood flowing through some decadent veins and arteries on my skull. It is really annoying but gets better everyday. What do you think?

Normally, blood thinners are also not used with Nsaids. So, speak with your doctor, of course, but would advise not to use these together based on the provided information.

ve never tried it, but I have tried Voltaren gel, a prescription, which I thought did make a difference. It is very expensive. I also get a compounding gel from a special pharmacy (not a chain). They combine a bunch of things like lidocaine, ketamine and I don't know what else. That actually works pretty well. Any chance you could try either of those?

I would love to hear feedback from anyone who has been taking Voltaren...I have been thru the mill with Suprytz knee injections, full series of epidural spinal injections, many trials of anti inflams, physial therapy etc. etc (all to no avail)... Two days ago my rheumatologist stared me on Voltaren and I am pain free for the first time in one year....I am afaid to get my hopes up as this seems too good to be true....

Vaginal application of miconazole would have little systemic absorption and is unlikely to affect the BCP. Even with systemic absorption, it acts an enzyme inhibitor and would rather potentiate its action. Hope this information helps. Take care!

Hi folks! Have any of you used Diclofenac or Voltarin Gel for relief from general pain on thighs, etc.(and other large areas ... LOL? What was your experience? So I've had hip pain for about 7 months. I went to her after months of voltaren, metsal, Celebrex etc and she says it's bursitis and that I'll need steroid injections. If it is muscle how come it only got worse the next day when I stretched? And the voltaren didn't help. Also when I'm working or doing physical activity it kinda becomes numb but the pain comes later on. In the cold it's a focused sharp pain rather than all over. Is this signs of bursitis?

Recently there was a thread here talking about acetaminophen versus NSAIDs, but it was all oral stuff. The manufacturer of Voltaren gel states that the recommended dose results in only 6% the systemic absorption compared to an oral dose of the same drug, so it seems true that I won't absorb very much of it, and even less if I'm taking half the recommended dose at half the frequency, but I STILL wish I could hear a few other hepatologists say it is safe.

Lidoderm Patches (they are generic now) and Voltaren Gel. The Lidoderm works by letting small amounts of the same numbing agent they give you when they work on your teeth. You can wear 12 hours on/12 hours off. The 12 hour off the Voltaren Gel would work also. Hope that helps!

I was just given Voltaren Gel(diclofenac sodium topical get 1%) for my neck pain(spinal cord nerve damage) and muscle spasms in my shoulders. I've been using it for the past few days and it has worked wonders for the pain in my shoulders. It comes in pill form too and it is geared for arthritis and pain. I was surprised how quickly it reduced my shoulder pain.

From my understanding and use, you apply it in areas so that absorption is slow into the blood stream. Transference to other people can happen when you have sex. Toxic to women.

well, he didnt say anything at al he just gaveme the voltare, i took a glucose and insulin test and they all came back great. one other thing is that, ther was a time i went to the gym, and it as the firs time after a long time so i think i pulled a hampstring but i got better and then foot started. mt last two toes were the ones inflamed.

My joint pain generally responds to heat better than ice (though lately I've been having trouble with bursitis in both knees and ice seems to work best for that.) s what my RE told me to do after my transfer, and it actually helps with the absorption of the new gel; but you could always call and ask your RE, too, just to make sure. Gently removing it with your finger shouldn't be much different than using the insert to inject the crinone.
