voltaren gel how does it work

Lately I have been putting Voltaren gel on my forehead. I'm doing this to soothe pain from inflammation caused by increased circulation from running a lot. Is this ok? I know it takes away pain, reduces inflammation, and increases blood circulation. Also I got the blood flowing through some decadent veins and arteries on my skull. It is really annoying but gets better everyday. What do you think?

The FDA just announced that dicoflenac gel (brand name Voltaren Gel) often prescribed for arthritis pain is linked to severe liver damage and it can happen within the first month of use According to the FDA, this topical gel has been reported to cause liver necrosis (death of liver cells), jaundice, and liver failure some cases of which have required liver transplant and some that have been fatal! Despite these horrible side effects, dicoflenac gel remains on the market.

My mother inlaw uses it and she said it works ok for her. I have tried to use it not on my face but other aches and pains but it didn't work very well. Some people it work for and others it don't. My friend used it on her back and it worked great.

Thank you for your comments...I have just had one more pain free day...I am aware of the nasty side effects of this drug and I intend to take as many precautions as possible like having blood testing every 3 months to monitor liver and/or kidney function....Running Mom, have you seen a chiipractor for your neck pain ?...I have lived 66 years virtually pain free and at 67 all hell broke loose so I intend to fight back with this drug and hope and pray for the best...

my rheumie prescribed and it has helped for muscle pain, joints (knee shoulder neck elbow) and it does seem to help. The gel doesnt cause as much problems for me which is great. It also is a godsend as I cant take nsaids aspirin, etc as I am on bloodthinners.

I find that they both help. Voltaren Gel has not been very effective for me but I know it has been for others as Runningmom attests.

So I've had hip pain for about 7 months. I went to her after months of voltaren, metsal, Celebrex etc and she says it's bursitis and that I'll need steroid injections. If it is muscle how come it only got worse the next day when I stretched? And the voltaren didn't help. Also when I'm working or doing physical activity it kinda becomes numb but the pain comes later on. In the cold it's a focused sharp pain rather than all over. Is this signs of bursitis?

It should be fine, I ended up not using it but if you washed it right away and it was just one time I think your okay, if your really worried you should ask your doc !

does an orthopaedic boot support both knee and ankle? I use Voltaren gel and take Tramadol twice a day.

but my big question is how do tjey induce by appoinment that sames day or what im confused and scared ???? Does it hurt firsr time mom and dont know what to expect???? He did told me their gonna try a new medicine a jelly the day they induce they will put a jelly in my vagina so my cervix will open amd then they will see how far my body will open omg im preparing myself to seeingy baby in less than 2 weeks help answer my questions and doubts pls....

I know how bad it can be. I had a joint replacement in my left thumb but the implant failed and wound up having 9 surgeries, countless meds, procedures, etc. I don't know if you've tried glucosamine chondroiton. It can help rebuild cartilage if you haven't gone too far. It was too late for my hands but it may be helping other spots I have. What kind of doctor are you seeing? I get some relief from a prescription gel called Voltaren.

Does anyone have any experience with diclofenac? If so, does it work better than over the counter antiinflammatory drugs and does upset the stomach much?

So, I guess my question is, Does anyone know of a similar issue and how it was treated? And, does anyone know of a medication that might help until a doctor can fix my issues. Here is a list of my past (unsuccessful) medications: Morphine (MS Contin/Kadian), Opana, Oxycontin, Methadone, Exalgo, Percocet, Vicodin, Dilaudid, Oxycodone IR, Neurontin, Lyrica, Valium, Flexiril, Soma, Robaxin..... The list goes on and on. I've done nerve ablation and every type of injection available.

You might ask your dr for Voltaren Gel. It's a TOPICAL non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug. I used it for the nerve pain in the tops of my feet with good results.

My joint pain generally responds to heat better than ice (though lately I've been having trouble with bursitis in both knees and ice seems to work best for that.) I have 5 days till my due date and baby doesnt seem to want to come any time soon. The doctor said is I went to 41 weeks they would probably induce me. How exactly does that work? I thought it was just some kind of medicine they gave you through an IV but a friend said something about them sticking a needle up there. Im a little freaked out, could someone please explain it to me?

Along with marycarmel suggestions, you may want to try Voltaren gel which is an anti-inflammatory gel that you rub right where it hurts and it reduces inflammation and thus reduces pain and it may relieve some of the stiffness you are experiencing as well. Also, you could try lidoderm patches - they are non narcotic patches that contain lidocaine (a local anesthetic) which will numb the affected area.

I have a muscle pain on my shoulder that it doesn't let me sleep. It hurts no matter how I lie to sleep. I have taken some pills that are not strong enough to take the pain away. I think I need the strong stuff like diclofenac and B12 and b6. There is a pills called OKA B that I use to take when having muscle pain and it took pains away. But I've heard that diclofenac is not good to take during tx. Has anyone taken diclofenac during tx or is it too bad for the liver.
