Avatar f tn ve found that a combination of Aleve (naproxen) and voltaren gel helps take the edge off of the pain. Voltaren gel is an anti-inflammatory gel that you would rub on your hands. It contains diclofenac, a strong prescription anti-inflammatory medication. You could ask your doctor about it to see if it will help in addition to the steroid shots. I haven't had the steroid shots in my hand before so I can't comment on that but someone else may be able to.
Avatar n tn I know how bad it can be. I had a joint replacement in my left thumb but the implant failed and wound up having 9 surgeries, countless meds, procedures, etc. I don't know if you've tried glucosamine chondroiton. It can help rebuild cartilage if you haven't gone too far. It was too late for my hands but it may be helping other spots I have. What kind of doctor are you seeing? I get some relief from a prescription gel called Voltaren.
Avatar f tn Lately I have been putting Voltaren gel on my forehead. I'm doing this to soothe pain from inflammation caused by increased circulation from running a lot. Is this ok? I know it takes away pain, reduces inflammation, and increases blood circulation. Also I got the blood flowing through some decadent veins and arteries on my skull. It is really annoying but gets better everyday. What do you think?
Avatar n tn That type of an electrical shock is usually caused due to the carpal tunnel tighening and pressing on a nerve. The carpal tunnel is like a rubber band around the wrist. Inflammation can also cause it to tighten and cause pressure. Treat the inflammation (something such as Fastum gel etc.) and you should experience relief. Good luck!
Avatar f tn s and then they added carpal tunnel. I have severe pain in my wrists, forearms, thumbs and my 3 middle fingers go numb and tingle constantly. Not to mention all the other symptoms that coincide with carpal tunnel syndrome. I have had an EMG 2 months ago with "No significant damage", back and hand x-rays with minor arthritis that does not affect my symptoms. Doctor has given me anti-inflammatory pills and gel to rub on areas.
Avatar f tn I had a nerve test last year which ruled out carpal tunnel but my doctor decided it was still carpal tunnel, however the pain is gradually getting worse seen physio on wednesday who gave me acupuincture seemed to ease it a bit she said I should have an MRI scan she thinks it is discs problem in cervical spine (neck).
Avatar m tn The FDA just announced that dicoflenac gel (brand name Voltaren Gel) often prescribed for arthritis pain is linked to severe liver damage and it can happen within the first month of use According to the FDA, this topical gel has been reported to cause liver necrosis (death of liver cells), jaundice, and liver failure some cases of which have required liver transplant and some that have been fatal! Despite these horrible side effects, dicoflenac gel remains on the market.
Avatar f tn apparently unk now at the time , I had this before my carpal tunnel surgery.. would the surgery worsen the rsd? Rsd is in both hands...I had emg done, so I definitely had carpal tunnel. My orthopedic surgeon noticed the pain, swelling, reddness and warmth in both hands when I started seeing him, approx. 4 months before the ct surgery. He told me it was unrelated to carpal tunnel..but went ahead with surgery. I am currently seeing a pain management specialist to help with the rsd...
Avatar f tn It does sound like carpal tunnel. Try icing it 20 minutes on and off. Rest the hands/wrists when you can or take lots of breaks. Then a water bath or two sinks one with cold water with some ice cubes in it and the other warm water. Soak your wrists in the cold water for 30 seconds then warm 30s then cold, warm etc for about 5 cycles ending in cold. That help get the inflammation down. You can take Ibupropin (if you don't have any problems with it). But take NSAID's after food only.
1175033 tn?1492201228 I was worried it could be coming from my neck but my doctor said its carpal tunnel and I had a NCS confirm this, I have mild Carpal Tunnel in both wrists (add another dx to the list). So I am wondering if this can be something connective tissue related, (maybe Selma can tell me about this) I often feel like my wrists bones are moving more than they should.
Avatar f tn I have a shoulder problem and used to be on strong pain killers, but my doctor told me to change to heat rubs!
Avatar f tn Carpal Tunnel doesn't have anything to do with being pregnant. I know my mom has carpal tunnel in both of her hands. She got it because of the work she did for almost 20 years.
Avatar m tn U had carpal tunnel show up in ur right hand, the same hand u had surgery in over a decade ago. Degenerative discs don't arnt always symptommatic. Emg studies from my experience are pretty precise.
Avatar m tn Pain and sensory loss in the thumb and index finger can often be attributed to a problem at C5-6. Carpal Tunnel can create pain in the hand as well. Swelling could be several things, do you have pain, tingling?
Avatar f tn Has anybody else experienced carpal tunnel syndrome? I'm expecting twins and I'm nearly 15 weeks. A nurse told me I have carpal tunnel, its hard for me to sleep at night and the nerves in my wrist and fingers hurt frequently. What can I do besides Tylenol and wrist brace?
Avatar f tn I have had carpal tunnel in my right hand for years, never in my left until about 2 months ago. I'm 33 weeks pregnant and the pain is almost unbearable. It affects my sleep to the point where I want to cry. I wear braces on both wrists but it doesn't seem to help much. Does anyone have any advice on what works to diminish the pain? I'm desperate!
Avatar f tn I have carpal tunnel syndrome too, there are braces you can buy to help. I personally havent but my hands ache horribly as well. Just to crack my fingers is teeth clenching. I have pretty persistent numbness in my thumb pointer and index finger on both hands. My midwife offered suggestions to sleep with them propped up on pillows and to seriously reduce any sodium intake you might have. Plenty of water, thats what I read all the time. Good luck!
6759135 tn?1420070652 So I've been getting carpal tunnel my whole pregnancy. At first it was just numbness in my fingertips but as my pregnancy has progressed, it's slowly gotten worse. It's now to the point where it's painful and interfering in normal everyday things. I can't turn on a tap, it hurts to open bottles, I find it difficult to get up because I can't put any weight on my hands at all. The pain is shooting all the way up to my elbow now. Should I see a doctor?
Avatar f tn Has anyone developed Carpal tunnel or any other wrist pain during pregnancy? Ive had such an easy pregnancy but lately my thumb and wrist have been aching really bad. I heard its common to get in pregnancy.
Avatar f tn Seen my Dr 2day and found out i have carpal tunnel in both my hands. Has anyone else dealt with this if so what helped you?? My Dr recommended those lil cast looking things, but what helped you?
Avatar f tn I read that a lot of women develop carpal tunnel like symptoms in their third trimester ... am I the only one experiencing these? One wrist/hand is worse than the other but both are very uncomfortable and sore. Just wondering if I'm alone in this or if others are experiencing this too.
