I'm 48, had hysterectomy 10 yrs ago but still have my ovaries. Started having sever hot-flashes so my doctor put me on the Vivelle Dot. It took care of the hot-flashes but caused me to gain 10 pounds in a 6 week period. My doc said the weight gain was from menopause. Well, I took the patch off 2 weeks ago and threw it away, and I have now lost 6 of those pounds and feel much better. I think it was causing depressiont too.
so i personally recomend it I use the Vivelle patch its a small dime size patch I put on lower belly two times per week...I have no negative side effects at all.
You may request gettting hormones checked you wont have any from ovaries..the pararthyroid adrenal and thyroid all produce levels that can be checked..
The latest and greatest is endo took me off birth control pills because of side effects. Which makes me very happy. He added Vivelle patch 0.1 and Prometrium 200 mg for ten days out of the month. Also upping my Humatrope. And taking another look at my thyroid.
Anyone have experience with the Vivelle for estrogen replacement?
The thing that has me super discouraged is my weight and my dr recommendation that I consider lap band. I currently am about 90lbs overweight.
The only time I had a high FSH level was before my hysterectomy. I had one ovary left (other removed 3yrs prior) before my hysterectomy.
I had a full hysterectomy about 1.5yrs ago. I am on the vivelle patch. I couldn't tell you what my FSH levels are now, I have never had them tested since the one time they were high.
I had a complete hysterectomy 5 1/2 years ago at the age of 35 for a borderline serous tumor in one of my ovaries. I have been on the vivelle dot .1mg patch for several years with no problems. Lately, I have been having symptoms of low estrogen like hot flashes. Unfortunately, my gyn oncologist has retired so I have been seeing my regular ob for my yearly follow up.
I had a hysterectomy in October 2009, I was put on the vivelle-dot patch. I'm on the lowest dose (0.05mg). I change the patch twice a week.
I had my yearly mamogram (which has always been normal). I picked up the report today and it says:
Findings: Dense and hetergenous breast parenchyma is again observed with minor asymmetry.
To help me avoid radical menopause sypmtoms, my doctor immediately started me on a .5 mg. Vivelle-dot estrogen patch after surgery, and I felt fine. Two weeks later, he added a 100 mg. daily dose of prometrium to my HRT therapy to avoid recurrence of endometriosis growth. My problem is that I am having unpleasant side effects from the prometrium, including exhaustion, minor headache, and lightheadedness. I don't like how it makes me feel.
Hi, I had a complete hysterectomy and have been on an estrogen patch ( vivelle dot) for ten years. I have had migraines for 30 yrs.
I’m really struggling because changing the patch every three days triggers a migraine like clock work. At 12 hrs the pain begins and builds so by 24 hrs it’s debilitating. Pain meds are not an option that frequently obviously.
Would it help to overlap the tone I put one on and take the old one off. Clearly the rise and fall of estrogen is the trigger.
I was on vivelle patch for many, many years and ran into trouble just taking estrogen. What happened was my adrenals were having a hard time working and since everything was taken out during my hysto., I wasn't producing much progesterone. My adrenals started to steal progesterone and I started having daily anxiety and panic attacks among other symptoms. As soon as I was put on progesterone, anxiety got better. I'm on the road to recovery now but it's taking a bit of time.
t have, and was placed on a higher dose of estrogen. I use the vivelle dot patch, oral estrogen and vaginal estrogen. This seems to have helped the urinary problems amongst other things. Are you on hormone replacement?
There is a great book I am reading called "Screaming to be heard" by Elizabeth Vliet MD and it really goes into detail on how hormones affect every organ system.

Have been on Vivelle patch since 2000, but switched to an estrogen cream for a bit... loved the patch instead. There is a difference between a synthetic hormone like Premarin and a bioidentical estrogen. And, you need testosterone (no progesterone).

the product I used ( my main symptoms where hot flashes, night sweats) was the Vivelle estrogen patch. Your Dr can and should do blood work, because even though it may seem not your ovaries are still trickling just a bit of estrogen so you need to know your hormone levels ( Dr does) to prescribe correct combination or single hormone, what ever you may need.
I have been using the estrogen patch (Vivelle dot .1) since my surgery and have had no problems with hot flashes. However, for the past 8 months I having been getting hot flashes every now and then. Is this normal? When I mentioned it to my doctor, he just said I was already taking the highest dose the patch comes in and didn't like the idea of me using the oral kind. I'm just wondering why this would start after so many years and if anyone else has experienced this.
carol I use the Vivelle ( estrogen only ) patch so far really happy with it, It seems that I have noticed many women need estrogen only,,,,at first then after x amount of years need testosterone also, who knows maybe I need it now, but I am asymptomatic so I choose not to treat it.
I personally dont advise anyone to use anything but bio-identical hormones.
Many doctors go by a womans description of how she feels, if your having doubts do by all means request a hormone test, simple blood test.
Since then I have been on an estrogen patch and felt great for the first couple of months after the procedure. I began to experience low back pain; particularly in the morning. So severe at times that I can hardly bend to put on my shoes. I did gain 20lbs but I am still active at 46 years old. Is it possible to have a prolaspe bladder as I feel that there is something coming out of me. Also, when I have sneezed or coughed, I feel a ripping in my abdomin but does not hurt.
Mary 53 whos brilliant on the hysterectomy panel has one thing in common with me we both swear by Vivelle its an estrogen patch is wonderful all positive no negative side effects..really helps,,,I take anti depressants too because of hypothroid, menopause and a crappy marriage its hard to get the dose just right My doctor just changed my does (increase) afte 2 years of feeling crappy and i feel so good..so look into that you may need an increase or a totally different med...
