Avatar m tn Green tea. It has for years been thought to have benefits on the eye tissue (retina), but lately it has in fact been proved by scientists (helps prevent oxidation). Green leafy vegetables is also great for general eye support.
Avatar m tn Lattice is found in about 8% of the population. I have lattice. usually its not a problem. No supplements will help lattice.
Avatar f tn Be careful with Vitamin A -- too much is bad for the liver. Better to take it in the form of betacarotine, which will only give as much A as you need and flush the rest. But A isn't the main nutrient for the eye, it's one of many. Again, the eye requires many nutrients. It requires essential fats, it requires colored veggies, especially dark green ones for lutein, the main carotenoid for the eye, it requires just a ton of nutrients.
Avatar f tn Women's One A Day prenatal vitamins have DHA and were the ones my doctor recommended.
Avatar m tn t know if you are very myopic (nearsighted), but this is one reason for a thin retina and multiple retinal tears/holes. These tears do need to be treated to prevent a retinal detachment. Vitamins or supplements, while important for retinal health, will not seal the retinal tears.
Avatar n tn No it means one layer of the retina (RNFL=retina nerve fiber layer) is thinner than normal. That can be due to many things including glaucoma, extreme myopia, previous trauma. There is no way to make the RNFL thicker. Since you likely had never had the test before it could have always been that way. it should be compared carefully with the other eye test.
Avatar n tn Medication doesn't cure anything, ever. Your body does. There is promising research being done with stem cell treatments for RP...

The last one was just bofre Thanksgiving. Last week, I has some laser doen, I think for the cataract, and also had an injection of Avastin to my retina. Can you explain the use of the Avastin? I can't find much online, and the Dr.
Avatar f tn I think it is posssible to pre-screen for potential retina traction problems. If you have already had a vitreous detachment, you likely won't have cystoid macular edema, but you could still have a retina detachment or retina bleed. Talk to the pros about this. You can NEVER ask too many questions.
Avatar m tn I have an about 3.25 years old baby boy. I realize that he can't see the objects moderately far from him. He can't also look straight at something. A local Pediatric Neurologist ( Recommended by a Pediatric Ophthalmologist ) said about an year ago that his retina was not properly constructed / built. She found the cornea of my baby pale?. The neurologist advised to treat with medicines combined with some vitamins e.g. Vitamin B's, A and vitamins of Cod Lever Oil.
Avatar m tn Not sure from your post if you are still in the Bay Area. It would help you to look for a retina specialist within reasonable driving distance of your home. Who has done the recent "state of the art tests, and exams"? Was that person a retina specialist? If your husband does have new blood vessels beginning to grow in his 'good' eye, he may need regular retina exams to assess any changes going forward.
Avatar f tn I went back to the laser opthamologist and he took pictures of my retina and saw a problem. He sent me to a retina specialist who discovered I now have a macular hole in both eyes. I have never had a problem with my eye health until now. The doctors assure me this has nothing to do with the lasik surgery. But why is this happening now, after the surgery, when I should have this great glasses-free vision (I have worn glasses since second grade and I am now 54). What causes this?
Avatar m tn Thank you for your answer. I would like to ask you another question. The vep test was done on June 20 2017. In Jan 2017 I saw the retina doctor he took a picture of the eye and look in back of the eye He never said about the optic nerve. The neurology doctor wants the retina doctor to look at the medical report. I have a appointment on July 13 2017. Which is more accurate? Thank you for your help.
Avatar m tn Vitamin A deficiency is only seen in this country in people who have had gastric bypass surgery and the gut does not absorb it. I doubt this is your problem. I am not sure what the doctor is trying to treat. The indications for treatment of "weak spots" in the retina are acute symptoms or retinal detachment in the other eye. Dr. O.
Avatar f tn Hello everyone, I am a nurse. My mom recently had gone to her Optomistrist noticing there was a change in her Left eye vision. She has quite deep Myopia as well. So what she describe it as: during focus/concentration at one spot the peripheral side of her left eye field of view is distorted, the lines especially become wavy. So then she was referred to go to her ophthalomogist.
Avatar n tn One day while going back home from one particular visit and with my pupils dilated, sunlight hit my eyes for a couple of seconds and I was totally blinded. Everything seemed to return back to normal after the pupil regained the natural size (after some 7 hours or so). Days after I noticed a kind of flashing light / scintillation (circular form) in the upper left side of my left eye's field of vision. Two months on I still see it, even when I close or blink my eyes.
Avatar f tn My sister had so many dilated exams the last three months because she had some serious retina damage and she wanted many doctors opinions she hasnt find the doc she is looking for though!I have started to think that she is going to get future damage if she does these exams twice a week or more.

Avatar m tn Have had floaters for many years. Not heard of this medication. The Doc. said mine were caused by the retina becoming partly detached & the 'floaters' were the bits of stuff that had previously held the thing in place were the 'floaters', As far as I'm aware there's no medication for this condition. See your Doc. to allay any anxiety this may be causing you. Beware of untested medications, of course.Good Luck.
Avatar n tn Also macular edema is a common problem in diabetics. Clarify the diagnosis with your retina specialist. Testing might include pictures of the retina (OCT) or a dye study (fluorescein angiogram).
Avatar f tn I had surgery for a detached retina on 4/14/2009. I had a sclera buckle placed a gas bubble injected that day and then another one 2 days later in an effort to keep the retina in place. (I've also had 6 laser treatment post surgery). I know that it is normal and this is probably more venting than a question but the gas bubble though smaller is now breaking into multiple bubbles and its making me crazy.
