Common Questions and Answers about Vitamin k heparin

vitamin

Avatar n tn If your father is taking Coumadin and his INR is high, the blood thinning can be reversed with intravenous medication, called Vitamin K, before the procedure. Even if his blood had already been thinned with Coumadin, he will receive intravenous Heparin blood thinner. Heparin works immediately, and the effects only last for a short time after the drug is stopped.
Avatar m tn Generally the basic dietary adult vitamin supplements have 25% of the daily minimum of K. Do NOT take vitamin K supplements. If the problem persists after four to six weeks, see if you can schedule an appointment with a physician.
Avatar m tn Vitamin K is an essential vitamin but too much can be toxic to the liver. Vitamin K2 has shown more benefits to the liver, particularly in the area of fibrosis, also known as MK7, you can read more about it on the life extention web site. I think the verdict is out on whether this is a good thing or not for liver patients, and especially while on tx the risks may outweigh the benfit..
Avatar f tn Just got an email from the np that said she had talked to the doctor and wants to put me on Vitamin k 10 mg daily. I gave her the pharmacy number and asked her to send me the lab results. Still waiting to hear back. Have any of you had to do this before? What is the Vitamin k used for? Thanks!
Avatar n tn > Coumadin and Plavix are both anti-platelet agents as well as aspirin that might just be a typo, but I'll go ahead anyway and point out that Coumadin is not antiplatelet, it's an anticoagulant. It works as a vitamin K antagonist, and vit K is necessary for the synthesis of prothrombin and Factor VII.
612551 tn?1450022175 Thanks for your experiences. This gives me a reference saying it isn't unusual, albeit my wife had her gallbladder removed a year of so back, and it was done robotic methods, endoscopic it think it is called. So the trauma was minimal. The subject surgery was done to remove cancer infected organs, so it was a full frontal entry, very large opening and a lot of removal so there is a lot of healing going on.
Avatar f tn How do you feel about the vitamin K shot? Are you going to give it to your new born?
Avatar f tn I think those who are opposed to a vitamin K shot for baby should do more research. Vitamin K can prevent a bleeding disorder, not blood clotting. Vitamin K aids in the ability of blood to clot, which is why it is given to newborns as a preventative measure. A lactation consultant friend sent me a link to an article, which includes statistics, about this very debate. http://evidencebasedbirth.
Avatar m tn If you are having a difficulty with maintaining your INR (protime) ask for a list of foods high in vitamin K. That has helped me a lot. When I am high, I eat more broccoli. When I am low, I do not eat anything in the dark green leafy vegetable family for a day or two. I wish you luck with your procedure and Lovenox.
535882 tn?1396576685 on a recent blood test . my vitamin d came back 26 /borderline deficient. waht should it be. ive heard 50. is supplements. 2000 a day. plus sunlight 10 minutes a day enough to boost this. can vitamin d deficency cause fatigue.? how long does it take to build back up in you. next blood work in a month. thanks.
Avatar m tn Vitamin K administration to improve the coagulopathy of patients with liver disease is common and often administered in response to an elevated INR. This is the largest retrospective review to date evaluating the effect of vitamin K on the INR of patients with liver disease. While a statistically significant decrease in INR of 0.08 was found, it is unclear if such a difference from vitamin K would be clinically significant.
Avatar f tn Tingly feet, legs and hands, unbalanced and lightheaded and have passed out a few times. Now, with my new bloodwork my Vitamin K is elevated at 1453. I have no idea what this means. Am I not processing vitamins correctly in my body because of the MTHFR gene mutation. My doctors don't seem to have an answer for me.
Avatar f tn I was reading yesterday that after the baby born the midwife will ask you if you agree to give him vitamin k . This is new for me ( FTM) ..of course if it is good for my son l will do it, just want to know if you have been through this ?
Avatar n tn I have heard that there is some problem mixing vitamin K with a blood thinner. I am taking 75 mg of plavix and cannot find anything about the vitamin K interaction. I need additional calcium, and the brand I am looking at taking would give me 40mcg of vitamin K. Is this safe or a problem? Where can I find how much vitamin K is in a serving of broccoli or spinich?
Avatar f tn I have read of using a constant daily low dosage (100mcg) of vitamin K to resolve INR instability the theory being that the instability may be due to a vitamin K deficiency and the constant dosage gives a bias level for the coumadin to work against. Does anyone have any experience or thoughts on this?
Avatar f tn Okay so I am 37+4 and I have been on Heparin for a little over a week now and was on lovenox since I found out I was pregnant due to a DVT I had back in June of 2012 after gallbladder surgery. My question is can I request to be induced? Its been stressful and I'm worried about going into labor naturally and not being able to have an epidural or having complications due to having to be on this medication. Does anyone think I would be able to be induced because of this risk factor?
Avatar m tn What are the risks to the baby after the heparin is stopped and should she be induced after stopping the heparin?
674725 tn?1367439630 Hey there Peeps, I went for my follow up yesterday with OB to get results on blood tests. They're not all back yet but, from what he saw - protein c ( ?) is borderline so I may have clotting disorder. He said if the other tests are positive indicators he'd put me on aspirin and Heparin. Anyone on Heparin ? I'm just curious and would appreciate any thoughts on it. I told him I'd already started taking low dose aspirin and he okayed it.
Avatar f tn If you are afraid of not having enough, you can explore taking vitamin K supplements yourself. Vitamins are better absorbed through food though, for Vit K try eating salads, broccoli, and cauliflower. There may be more, but those are the ones that come to mind off of the top of my head. There is evidence that cutting the cord too soon leads to more problems, such as bleeding on the brain and in the lungs than babies not given the vitamin K shot.
Avatar m tn spinach, broccoli, Brussels sprouts) are rich in vitamin K, which can affect your INR. Don’t avoid vitamin K-rich foods completely — vitamin K is essential to our health. Studies show that eating regular, consistent amounts of vitamin K-rich foods is better for maintaining a stable INR, than not eating them at all, or eating varying amounts.
