Avatar m tn hi, am taking,1000 iu vit d,magnesium, lycopene, selenium, multi mineral vitamin, my doctor just said stop taking vit d altogether and come back in 1 year for blood test.
Avatar n tn Obviously, the 5000 iu would be too much to continue taking. I also take a multivitamin which has 400 iu of vitamin D. Thank you.
382218 tn?1341181487 1. The data surrounding Vitamin D has a long history but it received recent press when the blood from soldiers entering the military were looked back at later and it was found that those with a low Vitamin D level were more likely to go on to be diagnosed with MS int he future. This suggests a possible association, not necessarily a cause and effect. Low Vitamin D levels are associated with many diagnoses, including Parkinson disease. 2.
Avatar f tn I agree with the above posts.....my doc had me on 4,000IU when mine went low,,,I am on chemo right now and I am afraid the D might interfere with the meds so I bought a tanning bed for my home and this way I just have to sit under the light every other day and get 20,000IU real quick.
541196 tn?1293552936 I take a multivitamin daily with 800 iu of Vitamin D. I also recently added 4 gummy vitamin D's that total an addition 1200. I have been hovering with a deficiancy of around 19... today I got the labs back and now I am down to 14. My dr. said she needed me to add 50,000 iu weekly and then after a month go to doing the 50,000 iu once a month in addition to my normal daily 2,000. I am frustrated. I have hashimotos. I was just increased from 88 to 100 mcg of Synthroid this week.

Avatar m tn You can check this with your doctor. However, with 5000 iu per day or 50,000 iu per week, you will be able to get your Vitamin D level to around 30 to 40 in 2 to 3 months. However, a good level is to have it around 60 - this takes around 6 months. In fact, doctors say that any value between 30 to 100 is good. After you are at Vit D level 60, you should maintain it by having around 2500 iu per day. Than only you will start seeing teh difference as it takes 7-8 month to get better.
Avatar n tn , I would also suggest starting with Vitamin D supplementation (about 50 000 IU or 70 000 IU once per week for about 3 or 4 months, and then leveling off at about 30 000 IU weekly for maintenance in periods when you don't go out to the sun).
Avatar f tn org/posts/show/596183 That link is a thread that is on page two discussing Vitamin D and thyroid disease. It has Vitamin D in the title. It is a good read, although it doesn't go into the exact mechanism that causes a deficiency. There is a correlation between the two.
Monkey I'm a 58 yo female. My MD has recently put me on Vitamin D treatment (50,000 IU once a week) -- is it okay for me to continue to take my regular vitamin supplement and the prescribed 1200 mg of calcium daily while taking the high vitamin D? I am also on HCTZ.
972284 tn?1247905474 There is very little danger for most of us to get too high of vitamin D levels, since most of us are low on vitamin D. What you said about 5,000 iu of vitamin D is now even what my PCP has started recommending. She works in an office where graduates from the natural health university can do their internships. So, she is aware of what the naturopathic interns suggest to her patients. I'm really grateful that she works in a clinic that actually supports an integrative medicine approach.
Avatar m tn Last year when I went thru a major depression I sought the help of a naturopath. She recommended 4,000 iu of Vitamin D and Fish Oil as two supplements that help with depression. I started on both and I do think they helped. If you stay within the normal dosages, I don't think it could hurt. Give it a try and see what it does for you. Good luck.
Avatar n tn is 1200 iu of vitamin D to mauch during the first trimester? I have read anywhere from 400iu to 4000iu.
910435 tn?1296748610 I have autoimmune thyroid issues, and my endocrine doctor checked my vitamin D levels and they were at 12. My question is that I see people who's levels were higher and their doctors put them on 10,000 IU's, but I was only told to take 1,000 IU's. I don't understand why such a huge difference in dosages. It did help raise my level at 1,000, but I can't remember to what level. Does anyone know why some give only 1,000 and others 10,000?
Avatar f tn Yes, all of your symptoms could be related to your vitamin d deficiency. What was the level of your vitamin d? 2,000 IU for a deficiency is not much. I was at 19 and my doc prescribed me 50,000 IU for 12 weeks (~7,000 a day). I hear it takes time (3-6 months) for levels to go back up and people to feel better. Sounds like you need more sun (hard this time of year). Hang in there. I hope you start feeling better.
Avatar m tn Just to add, I had vitamin D resistance (took up to 10 000 IU and could not raise my vitamin D levels) due to magnesium deficiency. If you find you can't get your vitamin D levels up try taking magnesium supplements as well.
Avatar f tn My Dr told me to take 2000 iu since my Vit D was a little low, but you can take a lot more safely. 4000-5000 iu daily or higher if you're deficient.
Avatar f tn It is where I learned how important it is to take magnesium in particular with vitamin D in order to get the most benefit from the vitamin D supplements. You should be able to find some archived newsletters on the site, too. Just Google "Vitamin D Council". It is a good idea to build up to it, as the above post says. Some people, especially people with autoimmune issues, are particularly sensitive to vitamin D supplements.
Avatar f tn the report expresses concern that older women taking calcium supplements may be at increased risk for kidney stones. All groups met the EAR for vitamin D of 400 IU daily when considering dietary intake together with cutaneous synthesis from sun exposure, but not from food intake alone. As the committee highlights, this poses a challenging concern given the risk of skin cancer from sun exposure.
Avatar n tn com Sponsored Links Toddlers, Young Children, Preteens and Adolescents During childhood and throughout adolescence, kids need to get 600 IU of vitamin D on a daily basis. Vitamin D is a vital nutrient involved in dental health maintenance, muscle and immune function, cell and bone growth. The human body is able to produce vitamin D naturally when the skin is exposed to ultraviolet rays emitted by the sun.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed with low vitamin d (it was 18) and was told to take the 50000 iu 1per wk for 6 wks but being that i am scared of meds I opted for the 1000 iu per day dosage without a prescription. I think now I should have listened to the doc and took the larger dosage. Does anyone have any REAL idea of what the normal level of vitamin d should be for someone over the age of 40? I don't think 32 as I have previously heard is accurate this day in time. I read that is an outdated number.
Avatar f tn So, this means you need to go back to your doctor and talk about your strategy for getting your vitamin D levels back up. I still take 4,000 iu daily even now to prevent my levels from getting too low again. You really want your levels in the optimal levels for over all health and well-being.
Avatar n tn I take 2000 mg of vitamin D, and it causes no pain. I feel much better when I take it. I used to be deficient. I would not stop the vitamin D. Perhaps you need other vitamins and minerals in addition, but the vitamin D shouldn't cause problems. Try calcium tablets and glutamate powder at night for the hip discomfort. Try magnesium in the morning at 500 IU.
