Avatar n tn My Vitamin D Hydroxy tested 20. Is this low enough for a prescription strength Vitamin D supplement? I need to get my levels up quickly.
Avatar f tn I drink milk, go in the sun (skin gets red very fast) and eat other foods that contain it and have no problem, but I recently was told by my doctor that I have a vitamin D deficiency. She wants me to start taking vitamin D3 in a 2300 dose. My question is, is it possible to have an allergy to this vitamin even though I eat foods that contain it? Will this high level of vitamin D affect me in a negative way? I'm a little anxious about taking it.

Avatar m tn These cells express CYP27B1, the gene encoding for the enzyme responsible for the synthesis of the vitamin-D hormonally active metabolite, calcitriol. Treatment with vitamin-D(3) resulted in calcitriol production and induction of calcitriol target gene CYP24A1, indicating that these cells contain the full machinery for vitamin-D metabolism and activity. Notably, treatment with calcitriol resulted in HCV inhibition.
Avatar f tn I too faced the same problem and went to doctor, she asked me to go for D4 level test (25-hydroxy vitamin D test), the result was 4 (ng/mL), she prescribed me uprise d3 60k IU capsules.
3221216 tn?1373640059 My D3 tests come back with a side note that 30-100 whatevers is the normal range. I am taking 12,000 IUs a day (10,000 for breakfast and 1,000 with lunch dinner). I am doing this for weight lifting nutrition regime. My numbers came back at 60. My muscles are getting huge. . . .well, kinda.
Avatar f tn 25-hydroxy-vitamin D (25 (OH) D) test should be used to diagnose a vitamin D deficiency state. Vitamin D deficiency is very common with thyroid disease. In one study, 92% of patients with Hashimoto's thyroiditis were vitamin D deficient. Check your labs to see if a 25-hydroxy-vitamin D (25 (OH) D) was requested by the doctor. If not, then that is one test to request.
Avatar f tn I know the Vitamin D test is called (D25OH) Vitamin D 25 Hydroxy, I am getting that checked next month. I was low back in april so was put on 800 IU, but told i could stop during the summer months, (i could get vit. d naturally), I have blood work drawn again in about 3 weeks to see how it is and if i should continue with the 800 IU once a day.
Avatar m tn First the liver must convert vitamin D to 25-hydroxy vitamin D. The second conversion takes place in the kidney when the 25-hydroxy form is further converted to 1-25-hydroxy vitamin D. THIS is the active form. I am not surprised those with Hep C, a disease that affects the liver, are so prone to low 25-hydroxy vitamin D. In these people the liver is not at it's best so is it any surprise to the first step of the vitamin's conversion to be reduced??
Avatar f tn I agree with the above posts.....my doc had me on 4,000IU when mine went low,,,I am on chemo right now and I am afraid the D might interfere with the meds so I bought a tanning bed for my home and this way I just have to sit under the light every other day and get 20,000IU real quick.
Avatar f tn Vitamin D 1,25-Dihydroxy 39.0; Vitamin D 25-Hydroxy i 26.9. Rheumatologist re-prescribed 50,000 iu Vitamin D biweekly for another 3 months. I have no energy at all, and other than low Vitamin D no explanation for leg aches/spasms (Requip was prescribed and doesn’t help), and walking/sleeping is painful. Should the parathyroid glands be checked? I don’t know what to do next. Thank you for any help.
Avatar m tn I’ve read that serrapeptase and nattokinase can dissolve scar tissue, that a Vitamin D measurement of greater than 100 for 25 Hydroxy Vitamin D can cause AFib and that it’s possible centella asiatica can modify scar tissue. Does anyone have additional information about any of this or knowledge of any other supplements which would dissolve scar tissue?
Avatar f tn you need him/her to order a vitamin D level AND a vitamin D 1,25 hydroxy level on you. For additional information, visit our discussion on this in the lyme forum... here's the link: http://www.medhelp.
Avatar f tn Levels of thyroid peroxidase antibodies that high indicated autoimmune thyroid disease. 92% with Hashimoto's thyroiditis have vitamin D deficiency. Over 95% of healthy people with no sign of thyroid disease are under 2.5mU/L with the most common around the 1 or 1.25mU/L range. Your free T4 is too low in the range and your TSH is too high. The AACE recommended the TSH range to narrow down to 0.3 - 3.0mU/L however only some labs have followed this change.
