168348 tn?1379357075 Vitamin D2 was the first synthetic form of Vitamin D and is the form of vitamin d in all Vegan Vitamin D. It was used, and still is in many cases, to fortify foods, make some Vitamin D supplements and is the basis for ALL Prescription Vitamin D. D2 (ergocalciferol) has lower bioactivity, poorer stability, and shorter duration of action, resulting in approximately 33% lower potency compared with vitamin D3. Vitamin D2 made from yeast, vitamin D3 made from lanolin. Hope that this helped.
Avatar m tn In addition to that, my doctor is putting me on Ergocalciferol for a few weeks to increase my vitamin D. I truly hope this is the answer. I have dealt with this so long!
Avatar f tn As needed) for worsening anxiety, beyond what I already take. He also had me start taking Calcium supplements with Vitamin D. I developed peeling nails and reddened, sore cuticles within about a month. My GP ran some tests, and put me on one pill with 50,000U of ergocalciferol per week, and I'm feeling more achy, nauseous, foggy brained, and unwell than before. Test levels were: vitamin D (25 Hydroxy) 22, Calcium 10.8, Albumin 4.9, Ionized Calcium 1.29, PTH intact  62.

I will definitely take the vitamin D as recommended. I am a rather recent breast cancer patient. I had late stage 2 invasive ductal cancer caused by being estrogen receptor positive. I did have a mastectomy of my right breast, then removal of auxillary lymph nodes under the arm area, chemo and then 25 rounds of radiation.
Avatar f tn In recently looking at D supplements, I came across this statement on a manfacturer's website "Most Vitamin D supplements use ergocalciferol or Vitamin D-2 but Vitabase Vitamin D uses cholecalciferol, D-3, a more bioactive form. This is the same form of Vitamin D made by the skin’s exposure to sunlight.
1140169 tn?1370185076 The clerk at the drug store told me there is no differance between vitamin D and D3. Is this true?
Avatar f tn They ran a bunch of tests and came back saying that my bloodwork was spectacular, except for a Vitamin D level of 16. They prescribed 50,000 iu a week of ergocalciferol for 8 weeks and said they'd retest my blood then. I took the first pill last Thursday and within a few hours felt awful. I had terrible insomnia, anxiety, etc. The dr. said not to take it for a couple of weeks and then try again and see if the same thing happens.
Avatar f tn In April, it was at 20, in August it was 17 and he had me begin taking 1000 i.u. of vitamin D twice a day, and last week it was down to 12.5. I live in Florida, am very fair skinned, get about a half hour of unprotected sunlight per day and I have begun drinking more vitamin D enriched dairy products than I ever have before in the past two months. I am dieting to lose weight and have lost 25 pounds in the past 6 months.
Avatar f tn My Vitamin d has been low 23. I have been taking vitamin d for 6 months. I went back to dr and it has stayed the same so he put me on Vit D2 50,000 iu once a week. Also I have had a lot of health issues for the last year and my doctor as a shot in the dark suggested Singulair even though I have no allergy or asthma symptoms. I took both of them. That evening my bones and muscles started to hurt.
Avatar f tn Vitamin D2 is ok for maintaining existing/circulating levels of Vitamin D... and depending on the dosages taken, it WILL be converted to D3, however, toxicity problems may occur. With D3, there are no toxicity issues. Also, the RDA was miscalculated and needs to be closer to 10 000 IU per day. https://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2015/03/150317122458.htm https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.
550622 tn?1247656720 She has recently diagnosed me as having a Vitamin D deficiency (level was at 16) and prescribed 50,000 IU of Vitamin D to be taken once a week for three months. She'll then recheck levels. My question is - isn't that an awfully high dose? Can I take a 400 Vitamin D2 daily and bring it up? This is all new to me, never have heard of this deficiency. My Endo is great and follows up with me regularly and says that the Graves Disease, at the moment, is in total remission.

Avatar f tn Cholicalciferol is also know as Vitamin D3 as apposed to Ergocalciferol which is Vitamin D2. mobyjoby in the USA the D3 is over the counter and is found in stregnths of 5,000iu and less and is a daily supplement. The D2 is only by prescription and comes in 50,000iu orally. Usally only taken once or twice a week. Is your level of 15 in ng/ml or nmol/l? It does make a difference. Both are in the severly deficient range at the level, but the nmol/l is super severly deficient.
1183618 tn?1277365106 By Darlene Varaleau HIGH DOSE VITAMIN D TREATMENT GETS SILLY (500,000 IU) Non-compliance (failure to take medications) is common both with prescription drugs and vitamins. Pharmaceutical companies and researchers often seek to address this problem with a "one shot a year" approach to osteoporosis medication and occasionally with vitamins.
Avatar m tn //www.medhelp.org/posts/recovery-after-vitamin-D-deficiency/Vitamin-D-deficiency--symptoms/show/1257522 I wish you the best of luck on your recovery. Hopefully it won't take you as long it has for me to reach those optimum levels and keep them there. BTW you say you are a male, but your profile shows you are a female. You might want to fix that.
Avatar m tn but I had blood work that showed I was anemic and vitamin D deficient. They did not test my RBC magnesium or Vitamin B12, but I know they were low too. My symptoms were, dizziness, body pain, fatigue, anxiety, brain fog, migraines/headaches, muscle twitches, floaters, head/eye pressure, unfocused vision...even felt like everything was very bright, sounds too loud, high pitched noise in my ears, rapid heart beat, heart flutters, internal tremors, etc.
739070 tn?1338603402 t really doing anything for me) but at first he checked my vitamin D level and mine was at like 6.2 or something and he prescribed vitamin D supplements of 50,000 IU 1x/week for 8 weeks and then vitamin D3 supplements 2,000 IU 1x/day there after, but then this week I went to see the neuro and he told me to just stop the 50,000 and go to the D3 2,000 3x/day from now on until he tells me otherwise, and to hold on to my other 4 vitamin D capsules. I don't know what he's doing.
1216899 tn?1288570325 After all the discussion with Vitamin D Deficiency lately, and the surprising amount of people that have it, my curiosity's are peaked. If you get a chance, I'd love to know the answer.
6603061 tn?1385316914 I am on a prescribed supplement of vitamin D of 50,000 iu of ergocalciferol, because of my vegan diet and spending more time in the sun which has now raised my D levels to the 30's which they say is still low. I refused the fatting ssri's they attempt to put you on, i have already been there and done that. The ssri's also quit working and you have to bounce around to differant ones.
