Avatar f tn In recently looking at D supplements, I came across this statement on a manfacturer's website "Most Vitamin D supplements use ergocalciferol or Vitamin D-2 but Vitabase Vitamin D uses cholecalciferol, D-3, a more bioactive form. This is the same form of Vitamin D made by the skin’s exposure to sunlight.
Avatar f tn Excerpt from Know the Importance of Taking Enough Magnesium with Your Vitamin D... "Vitamin D, just like all other nutrients, works in harmony with several other nutrients to perform its many functions. Most importantly, vitamin D requires and 'uses up' magnesium to convert from supplements or sun into its active form in the blood. As such, it is a big mistake to simply take large doses of Vitamin D without taking the need for magnesium into consideration.
Avatar n tn ve had the battery of tests done for thyroid, anemia, RA. They all came back negative with the exception of a Vitamin D deficiency. My vitamin D level is 14. Could it cause all these problems? I was told to buy some Caltrate and start taking that. But from what I've seen I don't know if this is the right route to take. Maybe I should see an endocrinologist? I also have to go for an MRI of the head sometime soon.
Avatar f tn 4 months back I was diagnosed with vitamin d deficiency with a level of 4ng/ml; extremely low. I had range of symptoms e.g extreme tiredness, severe anxiety, insomnia, sleep paralysis, explosive head syndrome, tingling and numbness etc. My first thought was I might have MS. And whichever disease I would look on internet I had majority of associated symptoms. This was due to severe anxiety caused by low vitamin d.
Avatar f tn Hi all, I just read through the forum. I was prescribed the weekly vitamin D3 pills and just started yesterday. My D was at 19. I am hoping this will help me. I have had fatigue for years and was diagnosed with Idiopathic Hypersomnia after a sleep study didn't show anything wrong. My iron & B vitamins always come up normal, as does my thyroid. Still, I take iron and B6 and B12 pills daily & they help a little.
Avatar f tn They fairly recently raised the minimum level for Vitamin D so many more people have been identified with a deficiency, but they have not done so for B12 and some doctors will say if you are above 200 you are fine. But 250 or even 300 is not a good number.
Avatar m tn cpk is just vitamin d deficiency, statins are the most common drugs to evelate cpk and vitamin d lowers it and prevents elevation.also vit b 12 can be added but it is vit d to prevent/lower cpk http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC3690793/ http://www.medscape.
Avatar f tn Vitamin D deficiency is commonly due to not enough sunlight. However, the causes of vitamin D deficiency are numerous and you may have more than one condition contributing to this deficiency. Vitamin D deficiency is estimated to affect at least a billion people worldwide. When vitamin D levels are not rising well or at all (vitamin D resistance) low magnesium levels are the first suspect. High doses of vitamin D can worsen an existing magnesium deficiency.
Avatar n tn If you are diagnosed with vitamin D deficiency, you must start your treatment in time. Vitamin D deficiency is treated with orally taken supplements or injections of vitamin D. Sometimes, the dose can be very high, but it all depends on how serious your condition is. You must never change the dose without your doctor’s knowledge. Vitamin D overdose is very rare, so you should not worry about getting overdosed.
Avatar n tn Yes i had issues with taking vitamin D. Any amount of vitamin D would of worsened my existing severe magnesium deficiency but i was taking 5000IU daily. Disaster!! After 6 months, not only were my "unexplained" symptoms (due to severe magnesium deficiency) even worse, my vitamin D levels were still deficient. One of my magnesium deficiency symptoms was heart rhythm problems. Magnesium is the most important co factor for vitamin D absorption.
Avatar f tn Before four years I was severe Vit. D and Vit. B12 deficiency. Just two months before I have done root canal. From that I have severe back pain, sometimes burning sensation on backside, headache, feeling weakness, dipressed mood, not concentrating on work, anxiety. I have done blood test. My vit. D is 60ng/ml, vit. B12 680pg/ml. My CBC, HB, LFT, KFT, cholesterol is normal. Orthopedic Dr prescribed 4 tab. of vit D suggest to take one table after three weeks. I have also consulted to Neurologist.
1749417 tn?1331996992 I have been doing some reading of the posts in here and came across the Vitamin D issue. My doctor also told me I was deficient too, but he never said anything about taking a supplement. Since reading the posts I think that is strange. On my other posts the replies were great, so i did some checking and my neuro is supposed to be an MS specialist but I can find no evidence of that. He said he studied at the John Trotter ms institute in St.
Avatar f tn of vitamin D daily as a basic preventive health measure. She said studies show a vitamin D deficiency is very common in our modern society, and that there are a broad range of health benefits conferred by an adequate level of vitamin D. It is a very cheap supplement if purchased at Costco or Trader Joe's, so it seems like a no-brainer to me. I do still hope someone more knowledgeable will post about how it relates to Hep C and tx.
1521323 tn?1291727347 The trick is once you have MS Vitamin D is not a treatment for MS. People with MS can take all the Vitamin D they want it will not help the disease. If you are low you have to take it for over all health. I think low Vitamin B12 could cause your symptoms. Vitamin B12 deficiency is a MS Mimic.
Avatar f tn Hi Biochemist357, thanks so much for your advice. Really interesting as I had a vitamin D deficiency too which I was told can cause degeneration of spinal cord, could that be a cause? Is there anything else I should be asking for to treat it? Many thanks!!
