Avatar n tn Hi, Regarding vitamin B6, a water soluble vitamin is essential for the normal and optimal functioning of the body. The Recommended Dietary Allowance (RDA) is the average daily dietary intake level that is sufficient to meet the nutrient requirements. RDAs for vitamin B6 (in milligrams), are: 1.3 mg for men and women under age 50; 1.7 mg for men and 1.5 mg for women over the age of 50, 1.9 mg for pregnant women, and 2 mg for women who are breastfeeding.
Avatar f tn I just got my lab work back and my vitamin b12 is up from 790 to over 2000 (too high to read) in a matter of six months. I originally had it tested because I was having tingling (paresthesia) in my left side of my back six months ago. It has since worsened, spreading to my face and arm. My vitamin b 1(one) is low now. 6units in plasma. And my vitamin d is also low despite supplementing.
Avatar f tn I kept on thinking what did I do different that day, to suddenly get these symptoms. Then I remembered I took 35mg of vitamin B6. Now that I find this forum I am shocked. I didn´t know B6 could cause toxicity and nerve damage. It there a way to reverse it???? to detox?????
Avatar f tn I started having the pins and needles 6 months ago. My neurologist did a B6 test and my B^ level was 1400. I take no vitamins with b6 in them only Calcium and B3. I checked to make sure there was no B6. Since then it has fluxuated with the lowest being 285. I had a blood test last week and it is back up to 1000. Do you have any ideas of what to do next. My neurologist suggested that maybe I should see a endrocronologist.
Avatar f tn I was just told that my blood test showed very low vitamin B12 levels (105). I have been put on a oral vitamin of 50 mcg of B12 daily and a multivitamin. I am wondering how long it will take for the supplements to help and for my symptoms to improve? I am also wondering if it ok for me to take extra B12, the 50 mcg/day seems low for treating someone with a level of 105? Do I need to worry about permanent damage?
Avatar f tn When I got really ill last October I was pretty much taking my multi b (50mg b6) and multivitamin (25mg b6) every day up until I got my b6 result a couple of weeks ago. Reading up on B6 toxicity it certainly explain alot of my symptoms (especially the neuropathy, which I had nerve conduction test for about a month ago and came up normal!). My question is, is my level considered a b6 toxicity? Has anyone had similiar levels and recovered?
Avatar m tn The MTHFR gene is extremely common and can lead to a problem processing the B Vitamins, making people particularly susceptible to deficiency of B12, folic acid, and Vitamin B6. Ironically, in these cases, Vitamin B6 Levels and Vitamin B12 Levels will be HIGH, despite actually being a DEFICIENCY of these vitamins. This is because the vitamins build up in the bloodstream, where they are measured, but the vitamins can't get into the cells where they are needed.
Avatar m tn It is recommended not to take any supplement of vitamin B6 and try not to eat large amounts of foods high in vitamin B6 at meals for 6 months. Vitamin B6 food sources are whole grains, legumes (beans), nuts, meats, and poultry and the sources with lowest amounts are: Peaches, Milk, Peas, Carrots, Ground Beef, Brown Rice, Soybeans, Avocado, Banana, and Turkey. It is a required vitamin and is needed in numerous necessary processes in our bodies. Eat with caution and small amounts.

Avatar n tn Vitamin B6 toxicity causes temporary neurological symptoms, which, according to the literature, usually take up to 6 months for it to resolve itself for majority of people. There are some people who do have permanent damage. It is recommended not to take any supplement of vitamin B6, if you are toxic, and try not to eat large amounts of foods high in vitamin B6 at meals for 6 months.
Avatar f tn I was wondering if anyone here knew anything about Vitamin B6 toxicity. I have discovered my blood level is high at 124.2 ng/mL (normal = 2.1 - 21.7 ng/mL). I am experiencing some strange symptoms like blurred vision, humming in my ears, difficulty swallowing and lack of coordination and numbness in my hands and feet. I know the numbness can be a symptom, but I am unsure about the other things. I also am unsure if it's possible to have a high blood level of B6 and not have toxicity.
Avatar n tn Were they taking the large doses of vitamin B6 supplement to help with relief of PMS, Carpal Tunnel Syndrome, asthma, or heart disease which research has showed vitamin B6 does not have any significant effect on the named above. 680767 tn?1254830575 It is usually the 25 OH Vitamin D level that is measured. The 1,25 di OH is not often measured, though it is a good idea. The 1,25 di OH is the active form. Most docs will order the 25 OH test.

Avatar f tn When you take a white tissue and wipe it across you forehead, does it look orangish? If so, you have saturated your system and are taking in too much. I have only seen this in people who are taking beta carotene as a supplement -or eating carrots obsessively. It is fat soluble so it stores in your fat cells and eventually either sweats out of your pores or the liver ditches it through your bile duct into your intestinal tract. In another thread, you were asking about vitamin B-6 toxicity.
Avatar f tn Is there a commonality between all the high vitamin B6 sufferers (especially the ones who don’t have a high vitamin B6 intake) ? I hope you can respond and share your insights or experiences. • Connection to stress, viral infection or burn-out? What happened 1-6 months prior the onset of your problems. I believe that the flu and 2 intercontinental flights fired up my condition of which I believe it was already building up in the months before.
1381186 tn?1280202029 If you test low in a certain vitamin B, then that would be one you would want to focus on. The most likely for this is B12. Vegetarians in particular can have a problem getting enough B12. But B6 is so involved with manufacturing serotonin and GABA that it is also crucial, but too much of it can cause a neuropathy, so you want the right amount.
Avatar f tn You said "Test says she's okay" - what test(s) have you had done recently? Can you post the results, along with the lab ranges for our members to see? Sometimes "normal" results according to the lab's reference ranges are not really "normal" for the individual. Additionally, some labs are still using outdated reference ranges, but as long as the numbers fall within the range, they will be considered "normal".
Avatar f tn The B6 test came back and my level is only 49 which doesn't really indicate toxicity (or does it?).
Avatar m tn the typical dose is 2.5-25 mg daily for three weeks, then 1.5-2.5 mg per day as maintenance treatment. For vitamin B6 deficiency in women taking birth control pills: the dose is 25-30 mg per day. Dosages up to 500 mg/day can be used in other circumstances. Vitamin B6 can cause anxiety; it can also cause very disturbing, vivid dreams. I have to be very careful with it. You should talk to your doctor to see if that could be causing your anxiety.
