Avatar n tn Also consider buying a vitamin B complex ( it is critical you get a good vitamin B complex from the food supplement store ) which also helps the absorption of iron and general increase in your metabolism functions and cells and in your case we are interested in red blood cells that help prevent anemia which can be increased with vitamins B. Also avoid excesses of zinc, calcium, cadmium, nickel, magnesium, chromium, phosphorus and manganese.
Avatar n tn To make vitamin D you need UV-B rays to come into direct contact with your skin. Of note: UV-B rays cannot penetrate glass. Pollution and clouds decrease the number of UV-B rays. * Latitude - UV-B rays only penetrate the atmosphere when the sun is at certain angles. In places with a latitude above 37 degrees, UV-B rays usually do not reach the earth's surface during the winter months.
Avatar f tn If pernicious anemia is caused by non absorption in the bowel of vitamin b-12 how can vitamin b-12 tablets be effective ? I have just finished four weeks of weekly injections and have now been out on oral vitamins.
1139187 tn?1355706647 It has 24 nutrients with antioxidants, electrolytes and B vitamins. It has 500+% of vitamin B-12, 1000+% of vitamin C, but only small percentage of some other B and other vitamins. It comes in a variety of flavors and does give a quick pick up up - probably from the C and electrolytes.
Avatar n tn Without intrinsic factor or a diet that contains the recommended intake of vitamin B-12, the amount of vitamin B-12 found in the body is decreased. When this occurs, these signs and symptoms of a vitamin B-12 deficiency occur: fatigue, shortness of breath, tingling and numbness in the extremities, headache, dementia, disorientation, and loss of concentration and memory. In severe cases, a vitamin B-12 deficiency by permanently damage your nerves, leading to lifelong side effects.
Avatar n tn Is there a problem absorbing Vitamin D .. if the body has a low level of Vitamin D ? .. like the 50,000 dose ?
Avatar m tn Hi. I've had Gastroparesis for about a year now and was wondering if anyone knew whether if it could cause vitamin deficiencies. I've been feeling lightheaded since last October and have done several blood tests, but I haven't checked for B12 I don't think. I take a multivitamin everyday, but was wondering if Gastroparesis could cause a problem with absorption or something? Thanks for your time.
Avatar m tn I also asked for my D and B to be checked. A lot of folks with liver disease are deficient in D and B helps with a lot of symptoms we are subject too. I took D3, a blend of B's, magnesium and a very good probiotic before, during and after treatment. I would encourage you to work with your doc for testing and find what is specific to your needs. Just a thought.
4274823 tn?1388529098 I have read on this forum that Vitamin C aids iron absorption. The liquid iron I take has Vitamin C in it as as a B vitamins. When consuming foods with iron how does one know what to consume that contains enough vitamin C to help the body absorb the iron? I am a vegetarian with hypothyroidism. I am not on thyroid medication. I understand iron is important to thyroid function. I'm trying to support my thyroid by increasing my ferretin (iron). My iron stores are reduced.
Avatar n tn To help the iron absorption you should consider taking a good vitamin C ( 1,000mg ) this good vitamin C can be bough at your local food supplement store. Also consider buying a vitamin B complex ( it is critical you get a good vitamin B complex from the food supplement store ) which also helps the absorption of iron and general increase in your metabolism functions and cells and in your case we are interested in red blood cells that help prevent anemia which can be increased with vitamins B.
Avatar m tn If you’re going vegan, I’d strongly suggest you take a vitamin B-12 supplement. B-12 comes from animal products, such as red meat, eggs, dairy, etc. B-12 deficiency can have many of the same symptoms as hypothyroidism (fatigue, neuropathy, etc) so you need to make sure you get a good supplement. I recommend, either, chewable or liquid and make sure it’s Methylcobalamin, which is readily absorbed. Let us know how it works out for you.
Avatar f tn So there can be no correlation between whatever level of liver fibrosis you had and absorption of these vitamins and minerals. (vitamin B and potassium are water soluble, so they are processed by the kidneys not the liver). If your liver was unable to function properly liver blood tests would not be within norms. You would have to have stage 4 liver disease before a damaged liver couldn't process vitamin A or have problems with an electrolyte such as potassium.
Avatar n tn I heard that Vitamin B-12, B6 and Vitamin D is really good for Thyroid dysfunction. I am taking synthroid medication, Do any of those vitamins have any interactions with they medication, and if not, when is a good time to take them.
Avatar m tn Also take vitamin B and vitamin D supplement for a short time. Also, physiotherapy should be tried. Nerve blocks, epidurals and spinal cord stimulators may help (but can be costly). Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you. The advice may not be completely correct for you as the doctor cannot examine you and does not know your complete medical history.
Avatar f tn Causes of vit D deficiency are inadequate intake coupled with inadequate sunlight exposure, disorders that limit its absorption, conditions that impair conversion of vitamin D into active metabolites, such as liver or kidney disorders or parathyroid disorders or rarely, by a number of hereditary disorders. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vitamin_D Pls discuss these with your doctor. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep me posted if you have any additional queries.
Avatar f tn Also, if you want to test further, ask for a MTHFR gene test as about half the population have a particular gene that interferes with certain vitamin and mineral absorption. I have it and am on an activated vitamin B tablet to help as the normal ones don't do much for me.
436713 tn?1408884730 I also think you may have an absorption issue. (pernicious anemia? for low B-12) you said your test was 400 for B-12. Did yo uknow that in Japan and many other countries the low end of the B-12 range doesn't even start until 500! And many people don't feel well until their levels are 700 if not 900. So supplimentation I think is a good idea. If you start supplimenting and your levels don't go up as Barb135 said above. That would be an indication of pernicious anemia.
Avatar f tn this is macrocytic anemia. The 2 main causes are low vitamin B-12 or excess alcohol intake. There are numerous causes of B-12 deficiency. High cholesterol/triglycerides (lipids) are often a symptom of hypothyroidism. Low carbon dioxide can be caused by hyperventilation, aspirin or alcohol overdose, diarrhea, dehydration, or severe malnutrition. Liver or kidney disease, a massive heart attack, hyperthyroidism, or uncontrolled diabetes.
Avatar m tn Are there recomended diets for people who cant reabsorb bile? Is colestid safe long term, I heard it affects vitamin K absorption? ANyone out there going through the same as me?
Avatar m tn You may need to increase stomach acid with betaine HCI (hydrochloric acid) with pepsin supplements for better absorption. Vitamin C also helps with absorption which i found interesting. From the Endo Society: "Absorption of thyroid drug levothyroxine improves with vitamin C" "Certain medications and digestive diseases interfere with the absorption of levothyroxine, but often malabsorption occurs for unknown reasons, Licht said.
