Common Questions and Answers about Vision insurance statistics

Avatar m tn these symptoms do seem to improve with time, as the brain neuroadapts to its new vision. For people who cannot adapt and find the vision unsatisfactory, the multifocal implant needs to be removed (explanted) and replaced surgically. This increases the risk to the eye. It is true that multifocal implants are not covered by insurance, and the expense to the patient can be as high as $2500 per eye.
Avatar m tn I would love to see statistics about how/if Crystalens near vision correlates with patient age. Even better would be "years since natural accommodation was lost". Do patients who are still accommodating, or who recently did so, more likely to be able to get strong accommodation with Crystalens? Or is there some other factor that determines whether or not near vision will work. Of course, one clear contributing factor would be if the lens is actually put in at a nearsighted setting.
Avatar f tn Not sure, but from what I know with people going to see fertility specialst, insurance covers very little to nothing. Honestly, I'm not looking forward to going to the fertility specialist either. Don't want to hear them say we're going to have to take an extreme approach to get pregnant. Trying to get pregnant the unnatural way tends to be very expensive. Maybe there is a payment plan or something.
Avatar m tn After looking down at the ants and lizards for 14 days, the retina was about to detach and back to the ants and lizards for another 14 days. Gas was inserted both times-My vision is a little blury and there is on doubt in my mind, that the vision can be corrected with new lenses/contacts lenses. My question is simple. The percentage of having a cataract operation is very high.
Avatar n tn Currently 20/400 on left eye from birth and after retinal detachment 16 yrs ago on right eye as good as 20/25-20/30. In last 18 months, vision has diminished to 20/60-20/70 in right eye due to membrane formation. My opinion is that I really have no choice but to have surgery or give up my current ability to support my family. I'm a sales rep that does a lot of driving. My surgeon comes well recommended. Can anyone provide statistics on % success for this surgery vs % complications?
233488 tn?1310693103 According to the abstract, the Crystalens provided the best corrected vision at distance, intermediate and near, in addition to the best quality vision. The ReStor provided the best uncorrected near vision. It's unfortunate that patients can only access abstracts of the articles in this journal. We can read entire articles online in Eye World and Cataract & Refractive Surgery Today.
Avatar n tn Its miles to earlier to consider exchange, take it from me whos had same proceeder, for starter it took 9 months to see a big difference with halos and glares and starburst, and upto 12months for them to disappear nearly completely,as for the vision, imy vision was blurry up to 4 months, before i notice a big differnce, but them 6 -7 months for vision to go sharp..
Avatar m tn I am a 67 yr old male who is very nearsighted (-15/-12) but have successfully worn hard, gas permeable contacts for years. Have not had any problem at all with day vision but lately seem to have some problem with night time vision (low light situations). At routine visit to ophthalmologist, he said he didn't see any significant cataract issues. Then I mentioned my somewhat less than stellar vision at night (basically seems like I could use a little more light).
Avatar m tn I had corrected 20/20 vision before and now have 20/40 vision in my eye with the IOL. This IOL was not supposed to affect my distance vision, but help with reading. I don't see how it can be any more dangerous than than standard cataract surgery. Please give statistics if more dangerous, i.e. compare percentage of complications to regular cataract surgery.
Avatar f tn I have been diagnosed with myopic degeneration and receive the intraocular injection which is very effective. My insurance carrier will not cover the cost of the injection (medicine and surgery). If I had a diagnosis of macular degeneration it would be fully covered. I am looking for suggestions as to how to make my case with the insurance carrier that this is not a one time event but a chronic condition that if not treated would result in a loss of vision.
Avatar n tn My husband (40 y/o,healthy)and I (40 y/o, healthy) are looking to get our health insurance coverage from next present. Right now we are on cobra GHI( extension from my previous work place) but they are asking me to change to EMPIRE PPO or EPO since they will not have GHI. I did not have dental and vision coverage previously but even if I want it they are saying they cannot add it. They are also asking for a one year committment.
Avatar m tn I saw statistics saying the RD rate of people in North America is 0.3% (or 1/300) during the life time. What is the theoretical RD rate of my right eye given the fact that I have RD in the left eye? Is it more close to 5% or 15%? I am thinking if the RD rate is around 5% and the laser can lower the rate a bit to let say 3 or 4 %, I may rather wait until there is a symptom. I am going to see the Retinal specialist tomorrow and like to prepare a bit better.
Avatar n tn Usually people with the Symfony, or multifocals, tend to have good distance vision at first and any neuroadaptation makes their near vision clear. I had seen at least one poster whose distance vision was a bit subpar at first and then saw it improve with adaptation, but unfortunately the odds are you were left nearsighted. Many people whose lens power is off with a premium lens get a laser enhancement after their vision has stabilized.
Avatar f tn Also, see if there is a birth center near you. I know our local BC has options for families with no insurance. The total out of pocket to deliver there and be seen throughout the pregnancy is about $4500 compared to 3x that amount about the hospital.
Avatar m tn I was hit in my right eye with a baseball causing blindness. i am looking for information about what effects this will have on my "good" eye going blind. also where i can find statistics about percentage of people who suffer blindness in one eye and then later in another eye.
Avatar f tn Is it possible to repair this while retaining vision? How difficult is the surgery and how well will he see afterwards and does it last? Thank you for any comments.
Avatar n tn s father insurance he has really good insurance...
4097344 tn?1349754756 im in need of some help. i need health insurance but i just lost my job. now that i have palpitations im scared to drive or do anything. i went to the er and they did a ct scan with contrast and said they didnt find anything wrong. i just feel like crap. out of energy. all blood test came back good. i got a ct scan with contrast for my head last week but i havent heard back from them with the results so im guessing they didnt find anything.
Avatar f tn m assuming you have insurance, at least Medicare, and you are considering SURGERY which Medicare, and any secondary insurance, covers 2nd & 3rd opinions, or more if you need them. Find highly rated surgeons that have experience with different IOLs and let them tell you what they would advise for your vision, and why. I don't think you can put a dollar value as the biggest decider on your best vision for the rest of your life.
1282384 tn?1271431332 Now my left eye is acting up and I do not have any insurance since I got laid off over a year ago and have not been able to find work. I'm concerned about driving since my vision is so distorted in sunlight. I'm wondering how bad will my vision get and are there any options for me to get the surgery done without insurance...like payment plans or something?
Avatar f tn Hello! So I got a new job and didn't sign up for the vision plan because I have plenty of contacts, so decided to sign up during enrollment in January, but I did sign up for Medica health insurance. Now I have a growth in the corner of my eye. Not on the eyeball but in the way corner next to the nose. It is red, doesn't hurt or itch, is just super annoying because it touches by eye sometimes and feels like some eye boogers and I constantly want to rub it away.
Avatar m tn I think her statistics are suspect and the clichés and buzz words she uses (crafted by Groundswell and their ilk) are shopworn.
Avatar f tn Thanks for sharing.
