I think your best option is to plan ahead for the decrease in salary. Can you change your living situation temporarily and/or contact any creditors to suspend payments in order to adjust your monthly expense load for the short term? Have you purchased any short term disability insurance since you've been self employed? That might cover you. Unfortunately contracted employees generally make a really decent salary with zero benefits. I'd also look carefully at healthcare.

So my question is how many of you are self employed and if you are how far along were you when it started to get to uncomfortable for you to work to where you started to take ur time off until after your baby is born? Also how long do you plan on taking off? I am a FTM, self employed nail tech. husband is self employed, so no insurance and we make too much to qualify for medicare...luckily where i go set up a payment plan foe us, with a 50% discount because we re uninsured. I haven't slept in so many years but what's worst is all my self employed friends don't sleep either. So while the rest of the world is fast asleep that's when we come alive! I have now re-scheduled my life around not sleeping such as super market shopping any where between 2am-5am; making deposits at atm machines during those hours and always being able to finish my work because I have learned that is the best time to get my work done w/o interruptions.

Hey all, I am a recovering opiate addict.....I have a very dear loved one that is very close to being ready to detox from alcohol. He is self-employed and has NO insurance. He isn't open to a 30-45 day inpatient facility, but I told him I thought there were 5-7 day detox facilities that were medically supervised.....but are there? And are there any out there that will take someone with no insurance? This would be applicable in the State of Kansas.

If you haven't had your biopsy yet contact the hospital and look into any financial assistance they might have to offer. I was unaware of this before my bx but they put me on a 5 yr. payment plan. Yes, cost of treatment is expensive - but I feel cost of not doing treatment is too high.

About 8 months ago, I picked up an additional job, making my total working hours about 100/week. Hello everyone, I'm a 41 year old non-smoker and a 1 cm lung nodule was discovered after I had an MRI on my neck for a car accident. I've been reading through the subpleural nodule posts and it appears that none have turned out to be malignant. I'm seriously wondering if follow-up testing is even necessary for me. I have yet to see any that have actually been cancerous. Thoughts?

Then thousands of tiny gray spots were added. No insurance but went to Optomitrist and he found a hole in my retina. This a.m. I can now see the bottom and left edges of the hole. It is black and looks like there are hairs in my eye. I'm not happy. No money, can't have surgery. Is there anything I can do personally to help the situation? Vitamins? Herbs? Rest?

Hello, I have been diagnosed with retinal detachment in both eyes. My right eye is significantly worse however and my peripheral vision is pretty much gone. One retinal specialist I saw said that I am 95% detached in my right eye. I went to another specialist yesterday and they want me to have surgery sometime this week. The first specialist I went to suggested scleral buckling and the second one suggested vitrectomy.

I have no medical insurance and I have an agressive cataract in my right eye that has made me legally blind in that eye. Does anyone know what the range of actual cost of cataract surgery sans insurance payments is. It would be mono focal and only the one eye. Any information would be appreciated.

My new employer offers group insurance and as I had no lapse in coverage, and I had to prove that to the insurance company, they had to honor my policy and cover all of my testing and procedures. If you are self employed or are covered under a private insurance policy, they can do pretty much whatever they want, even cancel your coverage, or so I was told by an Attorney who is also an Oncologist. Laws really need to be made to stop that from happening.
