Avatar m tn As GS-7340 is more efficacious than tenofovir do you think that by its approval(hope soon as studies are underway in Hiv patients) will lead to the approval of this drug for Hepatitis B and are we expecting more hbv seroconversions(used in combo or mono)? Waiting for any answers.
Avatar m tn In the USA the FDA will meet end of November for its decision regarding the approval of TAF 25MG for hbv. I would assume that it will be available a few I month later in the EU. Currently DESCOVY 25mg TAF plus 200mg emtricitabine is alead approved for hiv in the USA and canada. It could well be used for hbv, most likely at 1/2 tablet a day for hbv for patients who do not tolerate viread. the emtricitabine. ..
Avatar m tn tenofovir disoproxil fumarate) is a prodrug of tenofovir. The 'disoproxil' is a side chain attached to the active component 'tenofovir'. Inside our body, this side chain gets cleaved off by an enzyme to release the active tenofovir. AGX-1009 has a different side chain attached to the active component 'tenofovir'. It may show higher potency and/or lower toxicity compared to Viread because of this different side chain (At least that's what Agenix is hoping for).
Avatar m tn Here is he FDA approval and new name for the combination HIV medication with TAF. http://www.fda.gov/NewsEvents/Newsroom/PressAnnouncements/ucm471300.
Avatar m tn I would think TAF in time will be approved for HBV too , just like Viread has. When TAF becomes approved it will come with that patent that Viread has now. No big surprise I read that TAF is said to get FDA approved around the time Viread's patent ends. Personally, I feel it's a big game the drug company uses to continue to make more money. Gilead knows Viread will be available as Generic in the near future, so they have to have a new Brand up and coming with TAF.

Avatar m tn Stefano and others, thanks for your help. As I posted before, 2 of my relatives are currently undergoing Hepsera monotherapy. I went to a new doctor for a second opinion and the Hepsera-prescribing current doctor for an explanation of treatment choice. The first doctor agreed that Baraclude and Viread are to be dispensed per current AASLD guidelines but, once you've started with Hepsera, there is no need to change. He felt that the resisitance rate for Hepsera (vs.

Avatar f tn Renal impairment, including cases of acute renal failure and Fanconi syndrome (renal tubular injury with severe hypophosphatemia), has been reported with the use of VIREAD [See ADVERSE REACTIONS]. It is recommended that creatinine clearance be calculated in all patients prior to initiating therapy and as clinically appropriate during therapy with VIREAD. Routine monitoring of calculated creatinine clearance and serum phosphorus should be performed in patients at risk for renal impairment.

Avatar m tn I also started on Viread in March 2011. Before taking Viread i had absolutely no symptoms. Upon resuming viread i started experiencing the same symptoms as you have. I checked out the viread site to see if these symptoms were normal and from what i read they seemed to be quite usual and covered in the broad range of possible symptoms experienced by patients while taking viread. However i would like to hear any contrary opinions if anyone has any.

Avatar f tn On the other hand, it is generally considered safe for mothers on Viread to breakfeed - concentration of Viread in breast milk is minimal and experiences from HIV mothers on Viread indicated no significant side effects on baby. So it may be an option to delay switching until breastfeeding is over. Just my understanding.
