Hi all. I have a question. Can chronic abuse of opiates cause congestive heart failure? Liver disease? Kidney disease. I'm an addict that is experiencing some very scary symptoms and I fear that all of my drug abuse is the cause of it. Is there something out there that I can read that describes all the bad stuff that opiates do to your body long term? TIA!

The symptoms are definitely suggestive of kidney disease. You should get an ultrasound kidneys and kidney function tests done to confirm the diagnosis.

I would encourage both of you to talk with his endocrinologist about looking into possible changes that can bring his a1c levels well down below 7. That truly is his best protection not only against kidney disease, but against other complications. If sugar levels are maintained at near normal levels, damage cannot happen.
I have a 14 year old cocker spaniel who was recently diagnosed with kidney disease. She originally got sick a few weeks ago with pacreatitis, and when she recovered her lab work showed the kidney problems. We have been giving her fluids every other night as well as the epakitin powder with her food. Her blood report was better this last time. However she seems pretty good, has a good appetite ect and I'm wondering if there is anything else that could be causing this disease?

Obviously, he has severe anemia and no amount of iron will fix this kind. I have never heard of chemotherapy for kidney disease or kidney damage. I have kidney damage (kidney disease) due to an autoimmune disease. Kidney function is at 26% now, up from 20%. He had a fatty liver and went to the ER because of pain in his right upper quadrant. They told him he had kidney stones and sent him home with a script of Vicodin. He took 9 Vicodin then started taking ES Tylenol. He turned jaundiced within two days and died 5 weeks later. Why in the world would a dr give an 88 year old man with a fatty liver, Vicodin?????? I miss him so much. He was the best Grandfather, EVER!!!!!
This has always been a concern for me..I have exceeded the 4000..many times...I have had liver test that came out ok...but for some reason I really don't feel like it is ok..I have talked to a doctor about this and he said that someone can still have damage, and test again and it will show...IDK..As far as kidneys., I have never had a kidney infection until i started and even stopped using pills....I plan on getting my liver checked again soon....I pray your results come out good....
The er gave me a prescription for vicodin bevause of stomach pains, I haven't taken it but is this normal?
