Avatar n tn m concerned this could be STD related, or a super strain of strep. is it possible to have a throat infection for months?
Avatar f tn t respond to the drugs that they usually give you for strep throat. So it is possible that you could have it. That is my professional opinion as a clinical microbiologist The only other thing is are your lymph nodes swollen? Could these be what you feel when you swallow? You may have had the original strep throat and then your lymph nodes swelled and that is hat you feel? That with some residual pain from the sore throat? I don't know how bad your throat feels.
Avatar n tn My brother and mom had a sore throat for a while and it went away, a little over a month ago i caught it, too. It started out as a sore, internal pain on one side of my throat when i swallowed. That went away in a week or two, since then, it has been switching between being dry or having a lot of mucus (not creamy, green, or infected-looking mucus). I like exercising, but the dryness is causing me to have trouble breathing. The doctor told my brother that it was not mono and not strep.
Avatar f tn My 9yr old has had a sore throat for about two weeks. Her throat is red but no visible white bumps or pus. Her voice is hoarse but she has no other symptoms.
1108194 tn?1378424522 I have had a 'moving' headache for a week. I had strep throat. Nothing seems to touch it. Any help? I am miserable!
Avatar n tn t comprehend any doctor treating you for strep throat if they have not tested you for it. If the diagnoses has been confirmed and you are not responding to the antibiotics you mights need something stronger. You should call your doctor's office and let them know how you are feeling. They would be able to call something else in for you or might want to do other tests to confirm what may be the problem. There are very resistant strains of Strep out there.

Avatar f tn //www.webmd.com/cold-and-flu/sore-throat-cold-strep-throat-tonsillitis#1. I also agree that certain antibiotics treat certain things and not all give good coverage over all bacteria. And strep is notoriously resistant. They now use higher doses of things and antibiotics have additive agents to help them stay potent in killing the bacteria. So, if you took the full course and are still sick, follow back up with your doctor for the next step. Knock this out hopefully soon!
Avatar n tn A throat swab can help to diagnose a streptococcal infection. Repeated strep throat infections can be an indication for tonsillectomy, as the tonsils can harbor the bacteria. Please discuss this with your doctor am sure he will provide further assistance. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar n tn I know strep and allergies are definitely two different things, but it could be that if he has an allergy issue, his nasal passages and throat get irritated from that and then an infection occurs - the strep throat. This past winter I, myself, got strep throat twice and pneumonia once - the first bout of strep actually landed me in the hospital for 4 days.
Avatar n tn I caved and saw my family physician about the throat this day as well. She prescribed me a ten day strep medication. The quick strep came back negative, I'm waiting on the results for the culture. My cheeks are very red and my ears ache but I'm not sure if that's relevant to anything.
Avatar m tn 2 doctors told me I had strep.. second one tested for strep came back positive.. could 2 doctors be wrong about this? Thanks !!
Avatar f tn If you had strep throat or another type of strep you wouldn't have sneezing and runny nose. Some viruses start with a sore throat then change into the other symptoms. Hopefully they will go away soon. If not or if they get worse see your doctor.
Avatar n tn As far as the concerns go regarding strep throat....Consider your drinking water a source. We were on well water and were informed that the constant strep throat infection my kids had could be coming from the water they were drinking. Strep can be passed through water. Ever since we have been on bottled water we have been in the clear. This discussion is related to recurring strep throat in our family.
1310633 tn?1430224091 I have strep, they kiss me, the virus is now on their lips, they kiss my wife and pass it along to her) Sorry is this is a fundamentally stupid question... it's just never come up before, as neither my wife nor I have ever had strep-throat.
Avatar f tn Did the doctor do a throat culture for strep? A quick swab to the back of the throat for a rapid strep test could give you the answer to your discomfort. Whatever is causing your discomfort, it does not sound like it is going to go away on its own. You are going to need the treatment of a doctor. Sorry not the answer you wanted.
Avatar m tn It's highly likely you're going to get strep throat. The incubation period for streptococci is 2-5 days so you should be feeling something around now.

Avatar f tn It is important to find out what is causing your sever sore throat. It may be cold, flu, allergy, Strep throat, tonsillitis, etc. I know you don't have health insurance, but there may be low-cost county clinic you can have access to. If you have bacterial infection, like Strep throat, acyclovir will not treat it. Please seek professional medical help as soon as possible! Good luck! Avatar m tn Thanks for the tips! It seems to have turned into just a really nasty cold at this point. The horrible "swallowing knives" throat seems to have gone away and been replaced by congestion, runny nose, headache, and all the other classic cold symptoms. I've never had a cold start out with such a horrible sore throat before!
Avatar m tn 5) My only concern about the strep diagnosis is that sore throat came on end of second day, can strep start without sore throat and slight sore throat be possibly to antibiotics already taking effect. Notes: These were the most several muscle pains in my live with super high fever shakes and chill. No Rash or other symptoms.
Avatar m tn I have been exposed to strep throat and i'm 18 weeks pregnant What should I do and is there dander to my unborn child
Avatar f tn Strep throat you get fever headache and its super painful to pass saliva.
Avatar f tn The sore throat could be due to an infection, most probably streptococcal or a viral infection. Strep sore throat needs to be treated with an antibiotic as strep is a bacteria. Viral sore throat is best treated with rest, warm oral fluids and (OTC) Tylenol (acetaminophen) or ibuprofen for pain.
