Vicodin and your liver

Common Questions and Answers about Vicodin and your liver

vicodin

1494729 tn?1304881080 Jeff~ I answered you on the other forum... Basically, get some lab work done to test liver function. It's a routine blood test ordered by your doctor. Your liver may actually be fine. It's pretty resilient and is capable of regenerating. Don't worry. Get some lab work done.
Avatar f tn If any of you have suffered addiction opiates containing Tylenol I am sure you have been concerned about your liver. Did anyone have liver function test while on the meds. Or after the meds? Did they go back to normal when you cleaned up?
1268301 tn?1270348507 I have done my research on the damage that Tylenol can inflict on your Liver. I have been abusing Percocet and Vicodin for the better part of two years. I have NEVER gone over the 4,000 mg. limit in 24 hours. I think I may have went a bit over a couple of times but it was only by like a couple of hours. I also have not been eating right, and I have been smoking a lot of Tobacco during my addiction which I know can add to the danger of Liver damage.
Avatar m tn I agree with Vickie. You seem to understand that alcohol and Vicodin are bad for your liver, but I'm not sure you understand that the Tylenol in the Vicodin combined with the alcohol is lethal. It's too late to try to taper down on things. This situation needs to be addressed immediately. You are abusing both alcohol and Vicodin. Just because you've read posts where others take more pills or drink more alcohol doesn't change your situation.
771853 tn?1235326955 s doing alcohol and vicodin. However, if I started pounding the alcohol and vicodin with my stage 3+ liver disease wouldn't take long time before I was pushing up daisies and drinking and drugging would be my demise.
Avatar m tn At least no more than the alcohol will.If you want you could ask your doc for a liver profile and they take blood and test the enzymes.I really doubt that you have anything to worry about.
Avatar f tn I too drank while taking Vicodin and between the Tylenol and the booze it is a quick and sharp slide down hill in regards to health....Good luck with the doctor and you should start really thinking about taking the pills out of your diet....Good luck and God bless!
Avatar m tn Given that your liver enzymes are high, I would use the vicodin cautiously and contact your doctor and explain that the vicodin makes your symptoms worse. Did the doctors do an ultrasound on your organs, especially the gall bladder? If so, did everything check out okay? Lastly, there are other pain medications that your doctor can prescribe that doesn't have tylenol within it to see if your symptoms improve. I wish you the very best and I hope you feel better soon.
Avatar n tn Listen to your current MD. His 'nurse' is also telling you the truth. If you have taken 270 vicodin in 3 months, the acetominophen in it could damage your liver. Wait for the results of the other tests to begin worrying. People answer questions when they feel they can help.
Avatar f tn I have been taking vicodin 7.5/750 for several months and all the tylonel is starting to upset my stomach. Does anyone know the different strengths of vicodin so I can try something different?
Avatar m tn Vicodin is really damaging to your liver particularly when mixed with alcohol. If you know you have hep c you way want to rethink your lifestyle. Not be judgmental but just sayin....
Avatar m tn I do have Liver disease last checked stage 2 with hep C so long term use can lead to bad things... Your liver when healthy can repair its self to a point, why not let it and stop the Vics.. Be good to yourself and your liver the benefit will be peace of mind...
Avatar f tn If you have gastritis, can it take longer for prescribed, Vicodin to leave your urine or blood?
Avatar f tn My pain management doctor recently switched me to hydrocodone 10-500 due to pharmacy crack downs and I am itching like crazy and having bad nightmares and don't sleep well and grind my teeth bad. I must be having an allergic reaction? I'm not allergic to anything but this now. I'm suffering in pain cause I can't take these side effects! I was on Oxycodone 10-325 and didn't have any problems.
Avatar n tn My ALT in july was 55 and most recently (Jan 14) 61. My Alt was in the 90's in May and March. Do you think another MRI w/contrast is warranted (last one in May). Can the Billirubin be from the gallstones?. I also have cholestorol issues, can that have an effect on My liver?.... The vicodin 1 x a night would cause liver issues???...... I am kinda nervous about a liver biopsy, would'nt the MRI'S and US show problems?. Thank you so much for your time you are a gentleman.
Avatar f tn If your husband thinks he has liver pain he should go to the Dr. although when the liver does flare with pain the abdomen is extended with nausea and burping.. I have not noticed so much of a acid reflex.. He should still be checked out as ulcers and the like can be very painful.. also the gull bladder can cause severe pain in this region....I wish you well...
Avatar n tn i also have not had any typical withdrawl symptoms from stopping the vicodin. i have degeneration of my t3 and t4 vertebre and spinal rotation and of course subluxation. i have had 2 diagnosises and both times the prognosis was long term chronic pain. i have blood work done every 3 mths and it has always been normal. i am worried that the tramadol and ibuprofen could damage my liver. i only take 7.5-750mg vicodin. wouldnt it be better to just take the vicodin again?
Avatar f tn I was prescribed Vicodin for a little over a year and then Percocet for about 2 years. During those time periods, I had elevated liver enzymes and periodic liver pain, all of which dissapated after stopping the tylenol. And yes, I was taking them as prescribed and my total daily amount was around 2,600 mg...no where near the 4,000 mg limit. I have finally been switched to Oxycodone IR, which contains only the opioid that is present in Percocet without the tylenol.
Avatar f tn My grandfathers were this high. He had a fatty liver and went to the ER because of pain in his right upper quadrant. They told him he had kidney stones and sent him home with a script of Vicodin. He took 9 Vicodin then started taking ES Tylenol. He turned jaundiced within two days and died 5 weeks later. Why in the world would a dr give an 88 year old man with a fatty liver, Vicodin?????? I miss him so much. He was the best Grandfather, EVER!!!!!
Avatar f tn t worry about the liver issue. Your doing a Great job on tapering down. Taper slowly, and you will be fine. You have been through something very traumatic. Do you think the nightmares could be caused by some Post Traumatic Stress? Maybe?......Think about it, and if you feel that might be the case, maybe you can speak to your doctor about that. I wish you well, and please keep posting. Luv, Nauty.........
Avatar n tn I would talk with your doctor and tell him/her about you being a recovering alcoholic. Switching up addictions is very common and those vicodin will grab you by the short hairs and take you down....
Avatar n tn For the past year I have been abusing pain meds ie... vicotin. I cant afford a biopsy and 3 months ago my liver functions were high normal. Do you think I am causing "major" damage or is the pain meds just passing thru my system ?
Avatar m tn NSAIDs have their own toxicity to the liver. Vicodin I think is the worst of them all. As long as your liver tests are OK you would be safe as these would be expected to be abnormal if there was any ongoing liver damage.
Avatar f tn I've been taking Xanax .5 mg 1 a day for 4 to 5 months now. I was getting them off the street for my anxiety. I also was snorting vicodin 7.5 mg for 6 to 7 months 1 to 3 a day. I've been off the vicodin for 3 days now. And this is my 1st day not taking the Xanax. I don't want to get a seizure bc of not taking the Xanax. But I want to quit these pills bc I feel they r controlling me. The withdrawals suck on the vicodin. But I hope I can beat this.
1019316 tn?1262615059 t but one thing I can tell you is if you continue to abuse the vikes you will definitly have problems with your liver. Is this your first time abusing vikes?
Avatar f tn I have had perfectly good liver enzymes even through my treatment so I was put on vicodin for the pain, now I am on vicoprofen. I was comparing side effects and apparently vicoprofen can cause heart attacks. I only had to take 2 vicodin a day and I have to take 3 vicoprofen. What are you guys doing for headaches joint pain etc... I have a job and a house to keep. I also take care of my 20 yr old autistic son who is so wonderful.
620048 tn?1358018235 Higher levels than that can and will eventually cause liver damage. By the older standards 2 vicodin and 2 norco x a day was 950mg of Acetaminophen to much. (2*500*3= 3000, 2*325*3= 1950, 3000+1950= 4950, 4950-4000= 950).
