Common Questions and Answers about Venlafaxine withdrawal syndrome

effexor

Avatar m tn Google Venlafaxine Withdrawal Syndrome. You may be lucky and not have a severe reaction to continuing to decrease the dose. All the best.
Avatar f tn Venlafaxine works by inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin and norepinephrine in the brain from the fluid in the space around nerve. This is associated with a withdrawal syndrome and since your doctor is trying to wean you off it after 10 long years of therapy. The most common symptoms of effexor withdrawal are dizziness, electric shock like feelings, brain fog, and shock like symptoms in head, shoulders and arms.
Avatar n tn I was on 150mg Venlafaxine for 5 years and after a withdrawal lasting 10 months have finally stopped. No withdrawal symptoms at all. Once before I stopped cold turkey and the brain zaps and other withdrawals lasted 2 weeks. If you look up 'How Long Does Effexor Withdrawal Last', you will find over 930 replies to that question. Did you lower your dose slowly? I went from 150mg to 10mg over those 10 months so I would not get any withdrawal symptoms.
Avatar f tn I stopped taking Venlafaxine almost 1 year ago. My Pharmacist helped me with the "weaning" process, so things were okay for a while. Now here I am, a year later, and I actually feel WORSE than I did back then. The clinic I go to has rotating doctors (I do not have insurance regardless of "the affordable care act"), so it is difficult to relate to a physician every 3-4 months.
Avatar f tn I'm having trouble understanding why you would go through the "Terrible withdrawal" (your words) from Venlafaxine, you would then start taking Effexor, which is the BRAND Name for Venlafaxine?? I agree that the withdrawal symptoms are absolutely horrendous - I'm actually going to my Psych appointment now, to slow down this awful taper.
Avatar n tn for the first time since i come off Effexor i feel great... i feel no withdrawal symptoms. this is my 10th day without venlafaxine. i'm full of energy. and i feel great cause i'm beginning to win this battle. my dizziness is gone. that first days anxiety has normalized, I really believe now that it's possible to survive effexor withdrawal. usually depression has an environmental cause. try do find yourse and fight it. the human mind is very powerfull.
Avatar n tn I feel exhausted much of the time and have very little motivation and drive. Does anyone know if this might be due to withdrawal from Venlafaxine? Has anyone experienced similar effects after stopping this drug?
Avatar n tn Sudden withdrawal from venlafaxine can lead to the withdrawal symptoms you describe. It should not be discontinued suddenly, instead he should go down to 37.5mg for a time before coming off it. Or, his doctor might consider changing him to a different anti-depressant without as many withdrawal symptoms,(Prozac, citalopram ?) then coming off that. Venlafaxine (Exeffor) is usually prescribed for major depression, in emergencies, or when other anti-depressants have been ineffective.
Avatar n tn i am on 450 mgs venlafaxine, 150mg quatipine at night and have prn 3x .25 quatipine during the day. venlafaxine isn't working anymore. I have been given 2 options.. option 1. taper very slowly over a very long period of time and take other meds to stablize me, option 2. go back to the psych ward and under supervision come off venlafaxine which then is going to be replaced by another anti dep.
Avatar n tn As you probably know, there are relatively fewer problems with Remeron withdrawal than with other agents (especially paroxetine and venlafaxine) but that knowledge doesn't help you. What kind of symptoms are you having right now? The usual therapeutic dose for Lexapro is 10 mg, 7.5 mg might also be therapeutic for some people, but it is almost impossible to find a way to take that dose.
20867265 tn?1552026340 I've been taking Effexor/Venlafaxine since I was 23 (I'm going to be 30 in May). The medication was prescribed to me when I was still diagnosed as having Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). However, when I was 27, I got the diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder instead and that resonated a lot more. I noticed that my mental health improved quite considerably after that diagnosis and once I was put on mood stabilizers. My psychiatrist didn't take me off the antidepressants however.
Avatar f tn I was in an auto accident 15 years ago! It ended my career and caused me to have two nervous breakdowns back to back. The doctors had me on so much medication I did not know my name or anyone else. After several years my memory started coming back. I was able to find some sanity that I could grab ahold of and I began to take notice of meds that I was taking. I began weaning myself off this and that.
Avatar n tn t think I was crazy and gave me 6 pills from a different batch- all withdrawal symptoms disappeared in less than 2 hours!!! What is frightening to me are the following two things: 1. I am a very high functioning person. It took me seven days to follow my gut, stick to my guns and demand replacement pills. What would have happened to a less confident or less functional person? 2. The withdrawals are horrible! I now have a deeper understanding of why a drug addict would stay a drug addict.
Avatar n tn I never had and symptoms of depression before, during or after using the venlafaxine. However, the one withdrawal symptom I am experiencing is the 'buzzing' in my head - or 'brain shift' as I call it. Despite not having any depression / emotional symptoms, if I am destined to live with this maddening effect for the rest of my life, it could seriously lead to depression. I wish I was kidding. Does this side effect of discontinuation persist? Will it eventually go away?
Avatar f tn I had been on Venlafaxine for a number of years. First, at 75 mg and then eventually down to 32.5 mg. I consulted my doctor and at my request, decided I would discontinue the medication. She suggested I cut my dosage in half every two days. This did not work as I felt very ill and decided to cut dosage every two-three weeks. Three months later, I am off the medication completely. However, ever since I started decreasing the dosage, my mood and emotions have been unsteady, to stay the least.
Avatar n tn Day 2 of withdrawal from venlafaxine 75 mgs. Having vomiting, nausea and brain zaps. How long will this last???
Avatar f tn s also not true -- fewer do, but the main problem with assessing Prozac withdrawal is it stays in the body far longer than these other drugs and so the withdrawal is likely to start much later and be interpreted as something other than withdrawal. It sure did nothing for my prolonged withdrawal from Paxil, another very difficult drug to stop taking. Good luck whichever way you go. There are many people who find some relief taking a healthy dose off fish oil.
Avatar f tn It may take 6 to 8 weeks or longer for you to feel the full benefit of this medication. Continue to take venlafaxine even if you feel well. Do not stop taking venlafaxine without talking to your doctor. Your doctor will probably decrease your dose gradually.
Avatar f tn Thank you for replying to my question. I don't think it's malabsorbtion. The leaflet says the pill will pass in your stools, but the venlafaxine will have come out of the tablet. I am now on the soft gel capsules and guess I am back at waiting for 4-6 weeks for them to work as this is what I have been they will take 4 - 6 weeks to work. Thanks again.
Avatar m tn I have malignant vaso vagal syndrome which has been treated with dual chamber pace maker. I have also started with severe tiredness and confusion since I have been prescribed with with 150 mg of venlafaxine. I am struggling to cope with household and work functions and feel my brain is not able to concentrate I also feel detached. I have been dizzy and had severe bod tremors. Feel zombie like. Could the medication be causing this or making my existing condition worse.
309783 tn?1271958229 I usually take Effexor (venlafaxine) tablets. When i picked up my prescription last time I was given Viepax instead of Effexor. Presumably these are a cheaper generic version but are the ingredients identical? Eloise.
632919 tn?1252774093 Right now, my pdoc and I decided that it might be beneficial to try a med washout period. So, I have been trying to get off Effexor for the last few weeks. I had been on 75mg since November. I started by alternating 75mg one day with 37.5mg the next, then 37.5mg for one week, then 37.5mg every other day. I didn't make it a week with 37.5mg every other day because the withdrawal was so bad. So now I am taking 25mg generic immediate-release venlafaxine for one week, then 12.
