She tells me that the lowest dose of XL is 75mg. She has put me on 37.5mg daily Venlafaxine. I tried this as 150mg dose, and it was not the same at all as Effexor. Is there any alternative. I know Venlafaxine, is supposed to be the same as Effexor, but I don't think it is - at least my body said it was different!! I am now wondering what the next step is for me. What is the difference between Effexor XL and Venlafaxine. How do I reduce from 37.5mg Venlafaxine?

Venlafaxine (effexor) controls depression but does not cure it. It may take 6 to 8 weeks or longer for you to feel the full benefit of this medication. Continue to take venlafaxine even if you feel well. Do not stop taking venlafaxine without talking to your doctor. Your doctor will probably decrease your dose gradually.

I have been taking 37 twice a day venlafaxine for a year now and initially felt great however 4 months ago I have been slowly feeling the same as I did before I started taking venlafaxine. I have frequent dizzy spells and get upset every day do I need to increase my dose?

i am on 450 mgs venlafaxine, 150mg quatipine at night and have prn 3x .25 quatipine during the day. venlafaxine isn't working anymore. I have been given 2 options.. option 1. taper very slowly over a very long period of time and take other meds to stablize me, option 2. go back to the psych ward and under supervision come off venlafaxine which then is going to be replaced by another anti dep.

I took the venlafaxine, but with low dose Zyprexa, 5 mg, but 2.5 would have probably been enough. It worked very well and i was able to give it all up once recovered.

Yes and No. Venlafaxine is the active chemical in Effexor XR, But notice the "XR" Short for Extended Release. Generic Venlafaxine has no time release properties, but there is now a Generic Extended Release formula of Venlafaxine now on the market. I used to take Effexor XR in the past. I know many people still on it and they report that they had a much better response to the name brand Effexor XR than with the Geneic Effexor XR.

Trust me, all the name brand antidepressant meds are just as expensive. The active ingredient in Effexor is Venlafaxine, which is avalible in a Generic, but it is not in the XR form. The XR is short for "extended release." Only the Effexor has this time release form of Venlafaxine delivery. I have found this time release form to be much more effective than the generic Venlafaxine which has no such delivery system.

Hello, i wanted some advice on withdrawal from venlafaxine and if you can recommend and way that is useful to minimise the withdrawal symptoms other than the obvious slow reduction in dose. The diagnosis was confirmed by a temporary improvement after administration of a low dose (1 mg) of venlafaxine to the boy. The symptoms ceased after 8 days. Best is let your OB know before you get pregnant and get their input on this.

I've been taking Effexor/Venlafaxine since I was 23 (I'm going to be 30 in May). The medication was prescribed to me when I was still diagnosed as having Major Depressive Disorder (MDD). However, when I was 27, I got the diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder instead and that resonated a lot more. I noticed that my mental health improved quite considerably after that diagnosis and once I was put on mood stabilizers. My psychiatrist didn't take me off the antidepressants however.

Ive been on Venlafaxine for about 2 years. Im now down to 37.5 every other day, which I know is an incredibly low dose, but if I try going any longer without them I get the dizziness or brain shivers. As others will know - its awful! I lasted about 4 days before, but the dizziness did not let up for the whole 4 days, so I gave in and took a tablet - the dizziness stopped within 30 mins!

I thought all was getting back to a form of normal, however over the last few weeks, feel like slipping back. I have had no break in dose etc, but feel slipping backwards and getting down + don't know why? Can you build up a resiliance to this drug? Or maybe it is a side effect?
