Effexor (venlafaxine) is used to treat depression. Venlafaxine extended-release (long-acting) capsules are also used to treat generalized anxiety disorder (GAD; excessive worrying that is difficult to control), social anxiety disorder (extreme fear of interacting with others or performing in front of others that interferes with normal life), and panic disorder (sudden, unexpected attacks of extreme fear and worry about these attacks).
There is a generic Immediate Release Effexor available, not the XR. I am currently trying to come off this drug. Here is what my psychiatrist told me, but I haven't completed it yet, so I don't know if it will work. So, I was on Pristiq (by GP, not Psych), my psychiatrist switched me to 150 mg effexor instead...they are equivalant. So, now, I am dropping 37.
i'm posting a question asking for your medical advice as i've suffered from long term depression since i was 18 as i'm now 38 going through various medication regimes throughout that time. I've previously been on mostly SSRI's ie prozac and seroxat, with in addition dosuphin and amtitrypline. Prozac and seroxat worked well with me for some time until they "pooped out" on me.

Hello, i wanted some advice on withdrawal from venlafaxine and if you can recommend and way that is useful to minimise the withdrawal symptoms other than the obvious slow reduction in dose. I am currently taking 75mg modified release down from 150mg and i am not experiencing the withdrawal however i fear that when i go down to 37.5mg i will .
Hi, been on Venlafaxine 75mg timed release tablets for about two years. I have waited til the spring to try to come off as it's sunnier and better time of year to do it. The ONLY differences in immediate release and extending release pain medications is the length of pain management and far less of the ups and downs of short acting pain meds. Instead of taking a pill every 4-6 hours or whatever your dosing schedule is now- you would take it twice a day or however your dr prescribed it for you.
During all of this time I have been for the most part stable. missing a dose has immediate side effects which I actually appreciated because it would remind me to take the drug.

i have been taking venlafaxine for several months. i went off of it two weeks ago because i've been having severe nausea. the nausea is still there but i rarely sleep more than 4 hours a night.
i'm supposed to call my doctor this coming tuesday to have another anti-depressant prescibed. i don't know what to do. the nausea is intollerable, but i'm exhausted sleeping so little.

OxyContin is long-acting and oxycodone is immediate release. How often were you prescribed the OxyContin? Just to make sure: you were taking oxycodone 15 mg. for 3 months?
Some types of pain require a slow release with the long-acting med. Sometimes, often, you may need something for breakthrough pain, though you can also use OTC meds.
Were you not getting good pain relief with the 15 mg. of oxycodone?
Hi there, been going through various medication regimes now for the last 3 years after me depression 'insidiously' crept up on me to the extent that all the nicer part of me was gone and that was just getting by, carefully avoiding being 'out in the open' and retreating into myself.
1mg of oxymorphone is equal to about 2mg of oxycodone
1mg of oxycodone is equal to about .5 mg of oxymorphone
Oxycodone is half as potent, mg for mg.
So an 80mg Oxycontin would be roughly equal to a 40mg Opana ER
A 20mg Opana ER would be like a 40mg dose of Oxycontin
Converting instant release release oxycodone to Opana ER is different though. 15mg of oxycodone instant release would be, in terms of potency, roughly equivalent to 15mg of Opana ER.
