Varicose veins in hands and arms

Common Questions and Answers about Varicose veins in hands and arms

Avatar n tn I used to work in a nursing home - almost without exception these elderly folks in their 70's and 80's (even some in their 60's) have exceptionally prominent, almost swollen-looking, blue veins in their hands and arms. Is this just a "normal" part of the aging process - and what actually is the cause?
Avatar m tn I am a male of 36 years and I have noticed my veins in my hands bulge a lot when my hands are down and the veins disappear when I raise my hands. It is more noticeable in summer than winter. Everybody keeps telling me its normal but I know something is wrong.
Avatar m tn adding that on to the bulging heavy veins in my hands, arms, feet, and legs. yeah, that can't be normal. to me it does sound like a valve problem like dr sharma said. any other thoughts?
Avatar f tn It started with me noticing the veins on my palms and fingers appearing very blue sometimes (almost like they've been drawn with blue pen) and has progressed from my hand and feet up my legs and arms and I also see veins on my neck and around my eyes. This comes and goes - there doesn't seem to be a pattern though I've noticed it generally happens more in the evening and doesn't seem linked to temperature.
Avatar f tn Other possibility is of varicose veins. Varicose veins are veins that have become enlarged and twisted. They are common in the superficial veins of the legs but can be present in arms also. Confirmatory tests are Doppler ultrasound and angiogram. I sincerely advise you to get it confirmed from a vascular surgeon. Hope it helps.Take care and pls do keep us posted if you have any additional queries. Kind regards.
Avatar f tn I have been looking into this a lot myself and found out about spider veins and varicose veins and I think that is what they are. I have just begun a new birth control pill after some problems with my hormone levels and am also on the end of my recent period - could this be causing it? I read that it can if you are on the pill and have imbalanced hormones - such as being pregnant or on your period. Will they fade or disappear when my hormone levels are balanced?
Avatar n tn The most common local conditions that cause edema are varicose veins and thrombophlebitis (a blood clot with inflammation of the veins) of the deep veins of the legs. These conditions can cause inadequate pumping of the blood by the veins (venous insufficiency).
Avatar n tn I never rub them as I'm afraid they will get a clot. I have varicose and spider veins in my legs but the veins that do this are in my hands, arms, head, etc and are not varicose or spider. Also sometimes my legs will hurt and ache so bad. Any information you can give me will be greatly appreciated! --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Dear Myrtle: None of the symptoms you describe sounds like a blood clot.
Avatar n tn I felt a thud in my heart and then the veins on my hands, forearms and calf area of my legs enlarged. The arms only drain to normal and are not visable when I raise my arms vertically. When I then lower my arms again the veins pop out again and are unsightly. I had never had this happen before. It is when at rest that it is worse. I have checked about fibromyalgia that I have had for years, but never had this vein issue until the 21st of May of this year.
435652 tn?1204315393 I have this same thing which started over a month from now except this is happening in both hand and both feet. I get pains in my legs, feet, arms, and hands even what seems to be my scalp when all of my veins are visibly huge. I have been to the ER twice afraid I am having some circulation issue. Whenever I go to the Dr and try to explain this to then they all have this look as if they have never heard of this happening before.
Avatar n tn Please go to the doctor to be checked out. Over Christmas my inner thighs were extremely painful and I couldn't bear the pain when I touched my legs. It was an infection - Cellulitis and a course of antibiotis sorted it out. You can get the infection through cuts and punctures in the skin. The bacteria that usualy lives on our skin can enter through the cut into the deeper lays of the skin causing the infection especially if your immune system is low.
Avatar n tn One week later after taking some pills, the pain, and now tingling, was in my hands and fingers. Doc agreed it was not varicous veins then. More pills..(this is a bit like starting a difficult engine by hitting it with a hammer!!) These didn't do anything, and now I have numbing in both legs which comes and goes with severity depending what I am doing, and hands which at times are numb, and then tingling, especially the finger tips. Sometime just two small fingers on the right hand.
Avatar f tn 2 veins, one coming up each side. They also seem to be growing slowly. I also have very prominent veins in my arms, hands and feet. My legs and feet get very soar when I stand still and I almost always need to put my feet up after walking. I am very healthy, active and not overweight. My mother had vericose veins but nothing to the extent that I do. Has anyone else had a similar problem? Any suggestion on what else I could try to fix the problem?
Avatar n tn By the way I have been to docs and derms a lot and they too threw their hands up in the air and left me to figgure things out for this is what works for me. Also if you mix 2tblsp sodium (ask your pharmacist for it) with 4oz petrolium jelly (shea butter smell is the best) at bedtime put mixture all over body and leave on 8 to 12 hours repeat for 3 days and then again in 7 days for three days. Again this is just advise let me know if it works for any one else.
2831342 tn?1339938734 Even warm weather doesn't relieve the feeling of burning, tingling and numbness. Then, my veins started popping out big and blue in my feet, hands and arms. I woke up with electrical tingling up the front of my legs and varicose veins began to form. Tests for blood flow showed everything was 'normal'. Then the frontal vein in my forehead began to swell too and is causing a very uncomfortable 'full' feeling in my left brow with a feeling of pressure in my left eye and left nasal cavity.

Avatar f tn I noticed I was able to feel my heartbeat very clearly through my lungs when I took a deep breath in, and I also noticed that the tingling stayed in my hands while I held in the deep breath. My theory is that the lungs are pushing against the heart, possibly compressing it and temporarily reducing circulation which you'd feel most easily in the extremities (I.e., hands and feet).
Avatar m tn Hello, Common causes of ankle swelling include traumatic Injury such as an ankle sprain or a fracture, gout (accumulation of uric acid crystals within the fluid of your ankle),ankle arthritis, infection (cellulitis or septic joint), problems with blood flow like DVT can impair normal circulation and lead to swelling around the ankles, pregnancy, obesity, and varicose veins.
338416 tn?1420049302 For about a year, i now get engorged veins bulging in my arms to hands, ancles to feet. It hurts, tightening pressure feeling but as i said yes its happening but they can't find a medical explanation for it. The only thing really left in my situation is automatic dysfunction probably due to the holes in my brain, nothing really left lol.
Avatar n tn Like all of you, I have this condition, too. For probably 10+ years. It comes on for no apparent reason. I am a very healthy and active 60-year-old woman (feel like 40). I am thin and athletic, take vitamins daily (a good multivitamin with minerals, Super B, Vit C w/rosehips, 1200 mg of calcium + D. I'm also on thyroid medicine (Levoxyl, .075) for hypothyroidism and my TSH is in range and I'm feeling great. I exercise: power walking, push ups, yoga stretches, an occasional run.
Avatar f tn -off and on tingling down the back on my left leg to my foot -muscle aches and tightness (not extreme spacticity, but tighter than normal) -tingling in my arms off and on -occassional dizziness -low pulse and low blood pressure -freezing cold hands and feet (and for the last 24 hours my right hand is ice and my left hand is normal?!) -really fatigued all the time does any of this sound familiar? I would appreciate any suggestions you have!
Avatar f tn Does anyone else have swelling in their legs, feet, arms, and hands? One of my legs is definitely more swollen than the other. Am i alone in this?
Avatar n tn its usually in bed and i start throwing my arms and legs around in a paddy like way. does this happen to anyone else?
Avatar n tn I feel more of the tingling and pressure in my hands and stomach now and the feeling is always there I also feel sensitivity in them. I am now scheduled to have a visit to the rheumatologist and neurologist I was also thinking could this be a problem caused by something that I don't know thats inflamated inside?
Avatar m tn Swelling on legs along with clotted veins can be due to number of causes like varicose veins, deep vein thrombosis or thrombophlebitis. It is best to seek the opinion of a physician and get evaluated. The doctor will further refer you to a specialist concerned. This is merely an advice and not a substitute for clinical examination. Treatment will depend on the underlying cause. Hope it helps. Best wishes and regards!
Avatar n tn For a long time, I have had problems with varicose veins and oedema, and periodic bouts of phlebitis, so when, a few months ago, I discovered a study was being done on The Naked Scientists forum - see this link: Varicose Veins & IBT Study - I followed some of the links shown there, and realised that this could also help a long term back problem that I have, and other conditions, too. Andrew agreed that I could join in the study group, and I spoke with my doctor about it too.
Avatar m tn Having my blood pressure taken really, really hurt and caused blue spider veins to pop up in my hands. Sudden, acute Phlebitis in arms and legs since April 15th. Extremely painful from hips to feet. Even cloth lightly brushing against my legs causes a yelp of pain and I've almost passed out. New spider, varicose and large blue veins are popping up all over my legs, feet, forearms and hands.
Avatar f tn I have an unusual red looking lines similar to how varicose veins look, except this is consist all over my body, arms legs, chest, neck, and the palms of my hands are always red. Can any tell me what this might be, the doctor said she has not seen this before although she is just out of medical school. It is not a rash it is not raised, the only way to describe it like varicose veins except they are red not a bright red.
Avatar n tn -I also have a very hard/stiff penis when flaccid (like but 2inches long) -I experience a burning sensation in my penis often in the veins. -I have varicose veins on my testicles. -my testicles are smaller than before. -I have gradually had a harder and harder time getting erections and they are not "full". When erect my penis is about 5.5 inches instead of 6.
Avatar n tn We've been to a Veinous specialist, orthopedic specialist and a musculaskeletal specialist and they are all shaking their heads in dismay as to what this could possibly be. you say she is almost always in some sort of pain and sometimes it's so bad she can hardly walk. And...yes it is in both calves at the same time. We had an MRI of her back done because that's theoretically where leg pain stems from, but her back looks fine.
