Avatar f tn If kidney, heart and liver problems have been taken care of, then the pain and swelling in the legs could be due to varicose veins with faulty valves of the deep vein causing venous pooling. A dopplar study or angiogram of the blood vessels of the leg should be done. Wearing a hose or stocking specially designed for varicose veins may help. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar f tn Hi Varicose veins can also cause venous pooling as they are the result of either faulty valves or deep vein thrombus. While at work, keep your feet raised on a stool or something and move about once in a while to allow the leg muscles to contract. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar n tn Hello, I cannot confirm anything without examination but it can be venous eczema. It is due to valvular damage in leg veins and is due to past deep venous thrombosis (blood clot) or cellulitis (deep skin infection). The affected skin is red and scaly, itchy and may ooze, crust and crack. My advice would be to consult a dermatologist and get the diagnosis confirmed as treatment is diagnosis specific. I hope it helps. Take care and please do keep me posted in case you have any additional doubts.
Avatar m tn Varicose veins usually result from failures in valves in veins connecting the superficial veins to the deep system in your legs. This is a mechanical problem. No medicine can restore this function. Horse chestnut extracts have been studied and appear to decrease the swelling due to venous insufficiency but the appearance is unchanged.
1138687 tn?1548643978 Hi, I am wondering why there isn't a varicose veins forum!? Where else might I post my varicose veins concerns? I posted in the Deep Vein Thrombosis forum but noticed it is rarely used. I'm not certain but isn't DVT a result of varicose veins? And if varicose veins are more common, with DVT being a side affect, then Why not change that forum to Varicose Veins? Regardless shouldn't there be a forum for varicose veins?
Avatar n tn There is a possibility that these symptoms are due to varicose veins or due to deep vein thrombosis. A color Doppler will help reach a diagnosis. Other possibilities are diabetes and hypothyroidism. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Please discuss this with your doctor and get yourself investigated accordingly. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar f tn Well, I would look up Deep Vein Thrombosis, too, and see if any of the symptoms relate to what is happening to you. If it is a varicose vein it is no big deal, but if it is DVT you should go in and get checked, and don't wait until Monday if the symptoms match its description. Good luck; I hope it is just a v.v.
1907180 tn?1329450777 I am not sure if I have varicose veins or not. I am around 50 lbs overweight and 6 1/2 weeks pregnant. My legs are aching really bad from the knees to my ankles. I do have some small prominent blue bulging veins near the surface, but they have been there for years and never hurt. Can a person have them so deep that you can't see it? I fell last week and have some very deep and large contusions on the front of my right leg. My calves seem to be slightly swollen, but my ankles are normal.
Avatar m tn Edema can occur on the basis of heart disease, liver disease, kidney disease, and chronic venous insufficiency, with or without deep vein thrombosis. The venous insufficiency can be aggravated by obesity and sitting for long stretches of time, relatively immobile with your feet on the floor. However, the symptoms you describe, “chronic atypical chest tightness, and during certain times, shortness on breath and quick fatigue even with slight exertion.
Avatar n tn Sometimes our veins lose their elasticity. They don't snap back the way they should. If you spend a lot of time on your feet, you can get varicose veins. You might want to try some support stockings or socks. They are quite attractive nowadays - and some look like regular knee high socks. These stockings are made with lycra to tighten around the veins and keep them from swelling too much. As you get older, the veins will probably swell more and itch or hurt.
927365 tn?1245748499 Treatment of leg veins can be performed by injection of sclerosing agents into the veins and external lasers that work specifically for leg veins. In addition, treatment of underlying venous insufficiency of the deep venous system may be appropriate. The use if internal lasers can now be used in place of traditional vein stripping. You need to consult with a vascular surgeon or plastic surgeon in your area with expertise in this area.
Avatar n tn However the pain you feel in your leg looks more like a varicose vein or a deep vein thrombosis. It could also be lymphatic engorgement. The fact that cold compress helps indicates a venous pooling or an inflammation. I would recommend you to consult your PCP and get a referral for a vascular specialist. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
Avatar n tn I think you have deep vein thrombosis of the deep veins of the leg or maybe valvular dysfunction of the deep veins of the legs. This could be causing venous pooling that is making the legs feel fatigued and heavy. The venous pooling could also be making the fragile spider veins burst causing easy bruising. This could be especially true as this was an unaccustomed exercise. This can be diagnosed by color Doppler or by angiogram of the leg veins or by duplex ultrasound.
Avatar f tn I went to see a nurse practitioner and she said the feelings I was having was due to varicose veins. Are there any treatments for varicose veins?
1013028 tn?1250923267 Blood clots that form in veins (deep vein thrombosis, pulmonary embolism) are mainly made up of clotting proteins and platelets do not play a significant role in venous clots. Coumadin or warfarin is an effective blood thinner that prevens the production of clotting factors in the liver. Anti-platelet drugs like Aspirin or Plavix do not play much of a role in preventing venous clots.
Avatar f tn Dvt means deep venous thrombosis- when a blood clot forms in the deep veins of your extremity and it is treated with a blood thinner. The affected extremity becomes swollen painful and red.
Avatar f tn Just to rule it out, look up the symptoms of deep vein thrombosis and see if there is any similarity. You probably don't have DVT but it would be important to know if you do.
Avatar m tn This can be insufficiency of the vein valves causing inadequate drainage of the by products produced by the muscles (like lactic acid). Severe forms of this would include deep venous thrombosis which presents with acute and sudden leg pain associated with swelling. You can ask your doctor about tests such as venous doppler to see the condition of the veins.
Avatar f tn In response to your question, the varicose veins are blown out veins carrying blood backwards and adding to the burden of the normal veins. Getting them out of the system lightens the load on the normal ones. The only exception is when the deep venous system is occluded and the varicosity is the only way blood can return to the heart. This should be obvious with an appropriate duplex doppler study.
Avatar f tn I have a varicose vein on my leg (on back of my quad), I'm only 21 years old and it is slowly spreading slightly onto my calf muscle now. It is also beginning to ache.Would I be priority in having it removed or will doctors just leave it as it is?
Avatar f tn We'll look forward to seeing your current labs; you can post the results and reference ranges as soon as you get them, then we'll be able to see exactly what your thyroid levels are. That will help us tell how much your thyroid might be contributing to your swelling/edema. If you're already staying off wheat (gluten) and dairy, soy, peanuts, sugar and corn, it sounds like you pretty much have the biggest offenders covered.
Avatar f tn Hi there, What are the other associated symptoms you have been having? Varicose veins appear swollen, twisted, and may cause heaviness, aching and pain in the legs. In severe cases there may be brownish discoloration of the skin at the ankles and skin ulcers. Defective valves, pregnancy, obesity, thrombophlebitis all can put at risk of deep vein thrombosis. If you are doubtful it is best to seek medical help.
Avatar n tn If you have such a problem, it is better to be cautious about your diet and exercise. Such veins can cause venous pooling, slowing of blood and clot formation. Veins and their problems need special care. Hence consult a vascular surgeon once. Hope this helps. Please let me know if there is any thing else and do keep me posted. Take care!
9062499 tn?1426957962 They say they get worse w every pregnancy I'm on my third baby fourth pregnancy and they're starting . I have some on my thigh and I've been getting pains for 6 wks and I'm only going on 10. I didn't think about varicose veins being the reason for the pain until I just read this!!!!!
Avatar m tn The leg vein issue the way you describe is that of varicose veins. Because you are experiencing pain in the calf muscle, you should make an urgent appointment to see your doctor to rule out deep vein thrombosis. The doctor will listen to the leg and can arrange to get your blood tested with regard to that - this is called a Doppler test. He will also be able to confirm whether it is varicose veins that you have and what can be done about them.
